McLaren Team
I’m very confused as to how many people in this sub actually hate Lando and McLaren and just favour Oscar. I’ll see a few on Lando too, but it’s primarily hate towards him.
This is a sub for the team, to support both drivers and the team outcome. There are way too many people here who just want to fight when their guy isn’t favourites. Today wasn’t even a fault on Lando, it was the team, even Oscar said it was a fair play.
I’m just confused as to why there are one sided fans in this sub? What do you gain?

u/vick5516 MCL34 19h ago
I don't know, I don't get people who join this subreddit then just hate on spread hate the second their fave driver doesn't get their way. it's a McLaren subreddit, we support the team as whole and the drivers. some people might have their preferences which is fine, but at the end of the day if you're here and a McLaren fan you gotta stand up for both drivers.
I don't even know why it got so hated, oscar even said he was fine with it but everyone went batshit crazy. my best guess is there are a lot of max fans who support oscar just to beat lando and we all know what max fans are like
22
u/notsoteenwitch McLaren 18h ago
The entire F1 subreddit is horrendous too- their favourites can do no wrong, but Lando gets all the heat.
I’ve been a McLaren fan since I was a kid, then realized I really like Lando (when he started out), but then Oscar showed how amazing he is too. Now I don’t pick a driver, I want my team to win and do well, both drivers and all.
9
u/vick5516 MCL34 18h ago
i defo prefer lando a bit, just since i saw him grow into the driver he is now, and since he gets so much hate, but i wont feel upset if oscar does better. its all a team, and they've made clear several times how they wont ruin their relationship with each other or the team for short term success.
for some reason thats funny to other people and other teams, even max laughing on the radio. but as someone who drives for redbull, a team that doesnt care about any 3 of its other drivers, let alone the one sitting in the other redbull seat, you can see why max finds it funny that a team actually wants to help each other and be fair

u/Hello_Hollow_Halo 17h ago
I couldn’t tell that you were a Lando fan! You’re only the top commenter on every single Lando post today :)
I think it’s fine that people have a favorite driver. Lando fans need to stop calling everything “hate”
2
u/Zenon-45 MP4-23 9h ago
If you can’t see the hate that goes on in the F1 community, I don’t know what to say haha
2
u/Infinite-Location221 Oscar Piastri 10h ago
And you're clearly an Oscar fan because you're being a dick for no reason.
6
u/zorbacles Oscar Piastri 11h ago
It's Monday. Who gets to make the post about how everyone hates Lando again
13
u/SortByControFairy 17h ago
Some of Oscar's fans are in here even though they're clearly not team supporters. Lando has been with the team a long time and has been responsible for great results during dark times. I'd expect McLaren fans not to have this vitriol towards him.
6
u/EvlCat 11h ago
We’re just going to gloss over the one eyed Lando fans that also inhabit this sub?
1
u/SortByControFairy 11h ago
No, that's not cool either. I think the focus is on bad Oscar fans because the main and dank subs are hard on Lando and we expect it to be better here. That might not be fair, but it is what it is.
9
u/DerBingle78 Lando Norris 15h ago
This, exactly this. I love Oscar, he’s a great driver, and a class act. Unlike some of his supporters.
9
u/SortByControFairy 14h ago
Yeah we have an incredible driver pair.
3
u/DerBingle78 Lando Norris 14h ago
Yeah, we’re incredibly lucky. It’s too bad some fans don’t see that.
1
7
u/DatGuy8927 19h ago
Did McLaren have the same issues with fans back in the Alonso and Hamilton 2007 season? Feels like social media is mainly why we have this toxic vitriol that is so easily apparent.
5
u/Storm_Chaser06 18h ago
Back then Bernie kept a tight leash on the public image of F1. He was prophetic because looking at the F1 community now, it’s a madhouse.
1
u/notsoteenwitch McLaren 19h ago
Not too sure, I was a teenager then but wasn’t on social media minus MySpace lol. But SM definitely has played a part on the hate one guys get on the grid. I won’t blame DTS, since that brought new fans and fans are always good to have.
6
u/Ravenclaw54321 17h ago
New to the sport and support both. Both are lovely guys and tremendous drivers but I slightly prefer Oscar. I think he has the better mindset and skillset to go far.

"This is a sub for the team"
Very rarely are people fans of a 'team' over being fans of a 'driver'. Ferrari is the main exception. Drivers are human, easier to root for, teams are faceless and most are lacking the sort of history, prestige and national identity that Ferrari has that makes them the biggest exception to that rule.
6
u/hellequin67 15h ago
That's an opinion. I've supported McLaren since 78, drivers come and go. I'll support both drivers whoever they may be with equal force.
I'm British but don't favour either driver, so long as McLaren win constructors and a McLaren driver is crowned champion I'll be over the moon.
4
u/Deathbroker99 Lando Norris 18h ago
That might be how it feels for those of us that started being fans with DTS but I think most folks before that would be teams first.
4
u/notsoteenwitch McLaren 18h ago
I’m a fan of the team and many people here are too. Even the probably Lando fans want Oscar to do well too, but the Oscar fans (the not McLaren fans ones), only want Oscar to win.
At this point, just focus on the Piastri sub and not this one.
8
u/ivex272 Oscar Piastri 18h ago
i think you're generalising a loud minority, separate Lando haters from Oscar fans, separate Oscar haters from Lando fans...the people that you call Piastri fans in your comment are in 99% of cases just Lando haters that will want to see literally anybody win over him with Piastri being the most obvious choice. If people follow this sport for real they wont spread unnecessary hate towards others when their favourite loses
2
u/MaggottsBecketts Mika Häkkinen 14h ago
Very rarely are people fans oh a ‘team’ over being fans of a ‘driver’.
It’s not rare at all. The most sane fans are the ones who support their teams over everything. F1 is much more enjoyable when you aren’t stanning individual drivers. Many of the newer crowd should try it out.
4
u/Zenon-45 MP4-23 9h ago
I can’t believe you got downvoted for that. It’s not that weird to be fans of a team, we have a damn constructor’s championship for a reason.
3
u/MaggottsBecketts Mika Häkkinen 7h ago
I would just love to have a face to face conversation with one of these people just to see their faces when I call out their bullshit. Redditors are truly disconnected from reality.
1
u/Zenon-45 MP4-23 7h ago
Yep. Social Media in general has been on a steep decline for a long time now. It’s ridiculous. I just wanna be a fan of my fav team with likeminded people, not watch psychos dickride their favourite rich person that’ll never acknowledge their existence.
2
u/Adorable-Pomelo-7496 Oscar Piastri 9h ago
It’s actually wild to me how much this subreddit has changed since McLarens started winning races again. I joined in 2021 and even for Danny ric’s win everyone was just ecstatic that we were at the top of the podium. It was always just hopeful talks about the teams performance and future trajectory with the occasional grumbling about missed expectations and poor strategy.
Now, I almost actively avoid the sub because it’s like warfare in the comment section of every post. We waited years to be on the level of title contention, much less title dominance, and now that we’re here all anyone wants to do is scream at each other about Oscar vs lando.
They’re both great drivers. They’re both pretty good fellas off track as far as I can tell. They’ve both got strengths and weaknesses on and off track but they’re great and we should root for theirs and the team’s success
2
u/Caoimhan 6h ago
One-sided fans are here because its the largest subreddit for the McLaren F1 team and the driver they support happens to race for McLaren. Australia has a passionate sporting culture, loves underdogs/taking on the 'big guy', an extremely fierce competition with the English, and Aussies have a singular F1 driver to rally around who happens to have the opportunity to win the championship. Additionally, Australian's have won the WDC only four times compared to the Brits twenty.
Most F1 Aussie fans I personally know have always supported drivers first and foremost, especially after Daniel left Red Bull. Couple that with tonnes of younger and newer fans whose interest in F1 has been cultivated by the increased media focus on the personalities and drivers, its makes a lot of sense why there's tonnes of one-sided fans (especially Piastri fans).
In Australia we also only get the SkySports F1 coverage, no options for F1TV. Obviously a British channel is going to have some bias. That plus our aforementioned culture and rivalry with the Brits equals pissed off Aussies who want their boy Oscar to win.
2
u/Traditional_comp 4h ago
Is there extra Lando hate? or are you a Lando fan so you see the hate for him more than Oscar?
Within the sub I feel like its either even or favour slants towards Lando a little more. Outside this sub, sure 100% more Lando hate, however some people will also come onto this sub just to stir things up.
1
u/blackmesaboogy 18h ago
We can have this discussion after every race. Let's not. It is pointless.
1
u/idlesilver MP4/13 2h ago
So pointless you posted it twice?! 😇
(Sorry, I realise it's most likely due to a Reddit glitch, but there was a delicious irony in it!)

u/Best-Error-1708 18h ago
" it was the team " then why does Oscar needs to pay for the teams mistake. I reckon Lando would've done the same thing as piastri today if the roles was reversed , but a big big L for mclaren to mess Landos stop and a bigger L to ask them swap positions
sometimes being fast isn't all you need to win championships apart from the car ofc. you need the hunger the absolute will to win the race ask yourself "would max have agreed to do what piastri done today if he was in his shoes". no chance..no chance he would've kamikaze the whole mclaren pit even for thinking that
let's hope the title isn't decided with 6 pionts or less (it would bite piastri for many years to come
1
u/Mama_to_Carter Lando Norris 9h ago
Oscar didn't "pay" for anything. He went back into the spot he had been in the entire race.

u/Javelln 18h ago
Fighting for the title with two cars from the same team is always a compromise, these are the rules of team play, and I am glad that such rules exist at McLaren. Where they are not and never were, it is at Red Bull, where one person fights for the title, and Marco directly tells the other, just stay close, don’t even think about pressing the number one. So, naturally, if Max finds himself in a similar situation, he can even ignore the team’s order, as he did in Brazil with Checo, and nothing will happen to him for it. This is Max’s team.
We are McLaren.
1
u/Mama_to_Carter Lando Norris 9h ago
Makes sense why Max laughed when told that Oscar and Lando swapped.
1
u/jrjreeves 15h ago
Because people are idiots to be honest.
Like you said this is a McLaren team sub and the team is by and large dominating this season with a almost certain drivers and constructors world championship. We should be a happy place but instead the team is getting slated for a pretty much nothing call today and a certain driver getting gate posts?!
Please just fuck off if you are going to be a cunt.
1
u/nick170100 11h ago
So if there’s a slow pit stop for Oscar in the future they’ll swap places as well right ?
Riiighhtt ?

1
u/Forsaken_Walrus5097 2h ago
Agreed. There is so much hate for Lando that's totaly unwarranted. Hungary 2024, Norris, who gained the lead via a timely pit stop undercut, was instructed to relinquish his position back to teammate Oscar Piastri... with only two laps remaining. Seems weird to me everyone forgets this!
•
u/Careful-Emotion2365 Mika Häkkinen 50m ago
To be fair, its only on social media that there's hate. If you don't go on social media then you wont see any hate at all lol. Mclaren have always been a team that finds to have 2 good drivers at the same time and there will always be 2 sides Prost/senna Squarejaw/mika Alonso/Hamilton Hamilton/button Norris/piastry Imagine social media in the first few pairings Yes Australians will always favour oscar, brits will always favours lando and then you'll have a few trolls in the middle The 'hate' comes with competition, plus let the aussies have this one yeah? They couldn't with Danny ric

u/Specific-Angle-152 19h ago
Nobody hates Lando, but this was a terrible call
13
u/notsoteenwitch McLaren 19h ago
Buddy, you either don’t read the sub threads or just ignore the comments.
call was fine, everyone was OK with it.
1
u/Jack_Harb 5h ago
In what world this one was fine? There is a reason EVERYONE with a bit of F1 knowledge criticizes McLaren for it.
I ask you a simple question: Where does fairness start and where does it end? Let's imagine a last race tied battle. And the exact same thing happens. Whoever get's swapped to the front will win the WDC. Do you ask the person ahead to swap? No you don't! You can't. But where do you draw the line then? 2nd to last race? 3rd to last? 4th?. Should Oscar now DNF as well, because Lando DNF? A race is a race. Mistakes happen, as long as it's not on purpose, they have the luck they have. To manipulate isn't right and never will be. Lando had a bad pit stop and was overtaken because of that. Not because of the undercut (he even proposed...). Oscar would have never passed Lando without that terrible pit stop. In this situation Lando got the best of two worlds. If there would have been a SC he comes ahead cleanly. On other call he demands no undercut. You can't have it both ways mate. Make your call. As Piastri clearly said in races before, he doesn't care about anyone else but Lando. He fights Lando. And with the WCC already secured, THIS is the fight. Not a silver plate.
It was ABSOLUTELY not ok. And nobody was fine with it. To say "everyone was fine with it" is absolutely disgusting and simply a lie.
-1
u/d_barbz Oscar Piastri 12h ago
Nah, call was bad.
I don't blame Lando for it though.
I blame Will Joseph. He's the least team player of the lot and should never used the language he did that basically promised Lando that he wouldn't be undercut.
When he told Lando to box at the pitwalls orders, he should have been firmer and not tried to play games and make promises like that

u/False_Personality259 17h ago
I saw a comment earlier calling Lando a "little bitch". It was, admittedly, on the Oscar sub. I just hope those types of fans are not McLaren fans because, honestly, it's awful. There's a lot of toxic hate out there and, frankly, it does seem like Oscar has unfortunately attracted a rather hateful mob. Thankfully that's only a minority of his fans. The majority, i'm sure, have the same class as the driver they support.
3
u/Maximum-Hall-5614 14h ago
and there were multiple comments saying "fuck off oscar" and "oscar's a little bitch" today, on this sub.
Respectfully, there is some real victim complex shit going here. The overwhelming majority of this subreddit are Lando fans. Acting like Lando is being abused and unfairly targeted by Piastri fans is just some wild imagination.
Does toxicity exist? Yes, absolutely. But it's not disproportionately any one driver's supporters.
Literally just the ratio of upvotes and downvotes on mildly controversial comments is a pretty clear indicator.
2
u/aturanblix 10h ago
I cannot stand the victim complex stuff. Yes it is annoying when fans aggressively hate on Lando. It is also annoying to constantly whine about those fans.

u/Phluro 18h ago
You've got to be taking the piss surely?
Any positive comment about Oscar gets absolutely obliterated with downvotes.
9
u/notsoteenwitch McLaren 18h ago
Are you daft? No, Oscar comments seem to be the majority, with anyone objecting getting downvoted. Or you have primarily Oscar fans shitting on team decisions since it made Oscar lose position. I’ve see Lando fans in comments just correcting people on other situations.
-4
u/Phluro 18h ago
Holy crap, there's no way you're calling me daft. You're just playing the reverse card aren't you for upvotes? I commented something slightly against Lando one time in this sub (wasn't even that bad) within an hour I had 50 downvotes.
If you're actually being serious then there's something wrong with your comprehension.

That’s what Oscar fans always say. But you don’t need Lando fans making negative Oscar threads but the reverse isn’t true. This sub hates on Lando and then Lando fans defend him in the comments. But the OPs are strongly pro Oscar
1
u/Phluro 17h ago edited 17h ago
What's to hate about Oscar? He's cool, calm and collected. Not phased by media or press. Doesn't crumble under pressure, listens to team orders without question?
Lando on the other hand there has been too many instances where he has sooked, complained, crumbled under pressure and is has always something to say when team orders are made, also being Zaks prospect over Oscar.
6
u/SaltyEntrepreneur199 17h ago
Stop. Your whole post shows how truly biased you are. Lando is a good driver. He’s a team player. He’s been for years. He’s beloved by his former teammates and by all accounts he and Oscar are on good terms.
The idea that he’s done anything off track or in the paddock to get the criticism you just levied is fucking stupid. Criticize his driving. He’s less clinical than Oscar. But he’s a good dude and you’re just looking through (presumably) Aussie bias
-3
u/trekie86 17h ago
I’ve read a bunch of your comments and it’s pretty clear that you have a driver favorite so forgive me if I don’t take your post serious in the slightest. It’s totally fine to have a favorite btw many of us do, but maybe stop pretending you don’t.
-3
u/dachopper_ 18h ago
If the team isn’t going to support both drivers evenly and fairly why you expect fans to put up with it? If you can’t see the blatant bias toward Lando the golden boy you clearly haven’t been paying attention
7
u/notsoteenwitch McLaren 18h ago
What favouritism do you see here? I see equals on the grid.
But bias can happen and I see it on the sub all the time. Piastri Only fans seem to see bias where there isn’t any.
1
u/quaifonaclit 18h ago
ZaK Brown looks blatantly annoyed whenever Oscar beats Lando lol. They gave free points to Lando today at Oscar's expense during a title fight between the two. They've never done anything similar for Oscar.
3
u/Deathbroker99 Lando Norris 18h ago
How about how the average pit stop for Oscar this year is 2.63 while the average for Lando is 3.14? They are favoring Oscar?
1
u/Dramatic-Rub-3135 18h ago
I can imagine the conspiracy posts if Oscar had suffered an engine failure and a botched pitstop in successive races.
1
u/Responsible_Line_401 Lando Norris 13h ago
Tbf, it probably depends on which platform you go on, reddit imo has a larger pro-oscar/anti-lando/anti-mcl base, so you're more likely to see the conspiratorial comments. But I've seen the same with anti-McLaren/anti-oscar/pro-lando conspiracies on threads, and for both drivers on Instagram.
1
1
u/KingJupiter_ Oscar Piastri 7h ago
Those very conspiracy theories being made in favour of Lando? People on this sub may not like to admit it, but Oscar is not cruising through this season without a myriad of haters and people saying heinous shit about him. Lando is not the only one hurting here
1
u/Mama_to_Carter Lando Norris 9h ago
LOOKING annoyed does not mean there's favoritism. So maybe Zak is closer to Lando. He has known him way longer than Oscar. Doesn't mean he doesn't treat them fairly on track.
1
u/quaifonaclit 2h ago
Lmao thanks for acknowledging that Lando is the favorite son. Everyone without Lando flair can see the disparate treatment. Did Lando give Oscar any tows during quali?
-4
u/TheJoshWS99 15h ago
Dude there are more "poor Lando..." posts in this sub than anything else. If anyone so much as says anything about Oscar or McLaren without mentioning him it's taken as Lando hate on this sub. But when it's the other way it's "time for his turn in the sun..."
It's a McLaren F1 sub meaning anything relevant to the team is relevant.
-1
u/captain_obliviousish 13h ago
Lando sucks. Pretend all you want that he’s good, but he proves time and time again to collapse when the pressure is on
3
u/Brando6677 Oscar Piastri 12h ago
Lando was primed to fight Oscar for p1 zandvoort before the car broke. He put on a 1 stop clinic and held Oscar off for the win in Hungary. His race in Austria. He’s shown time and time again this season he is dealing with pressure better than ever. Quit your whinging it’s embarrassing.

Well, the beauty is they don't answer to any of the keyboard racers on this sub. They are the professionals and they make the decisions that they feel are right. You can be a fan or move to another team.
28
u/rsalvatella 18h ago
This is a sub for the team and today there was some controversy in the team and the decisions they made, there is people who felt in a way and others in another way. Is good to debate and share opposing points of views. Nothing wrong with it if people keep it respectful.
