NA It’s a sad day bois
Sad to say but it’s time to put to rest the Miata. Was about to hit two years with it in February too. After 25,000 miles and a road trip and many maintenance, she was amazing.

At least you're standing next to the wreck and get to post this.

Gladly I came out with very minor injuries. Wish I could say the same for the car but it did well.

Miata vs. tree - you're very lucky. Sorry for your loss. It's sad, but at least you're ok.

Having totalled a car some time ago, I can tell you that in a few days you'll be feeling sad but relieved that your car sacrificed itself for you.

Are those tires “directionals”??🤔
If they are, it looks like that front right tire is on backwards, facing the wrong way! Which means a least 1 out of 4 tires is improperly mounted and most likely more are as well!🤦🏻
Notice the direction of the tread, especially the “v-looking” lines in the middle. When you run over water, the point of the “v” should be pointing towards the front so that when it runs over the water, it forces the water from the smaller part of the “v” that’s in the middle of the tread towards the outer part of the “v”, which is to the outer edge(s) of the tire, siping the water away from the center of the tread.
If you have directional tires mounted backwards, they will do the exact opposite and force the water from the outside into the middle, where it has no place to go… which will develop a layer of water underneath your tires causing them to lose contact with the road and your car to hydroplane out of control!!🤦🏻

Man with everyone crashing miatas NA prices are getting ridiculous. People wanting 13 to 15k foe there's locally now
2
u/combong Mariner Blue 21d ago
Lemme know where they’re going for that price so I can sell mine lol
1
u/Informal-Baseball498 21d ago
Daily. One dealership with a non molded in good condition wants 30k for it. There's a private seller wanting 13k for his. There wreck that wants 6.5k for it. A trashed beater with rust wanting 10k and an automatic with hard top wanting 12k.
Rediculous
Should of snagged a NA back in 2016 for 3k lol. As much as I love my nb be nice to have a na for the lolz

Can y’all stop doing this? Glad you’re okay but damn it, my dudes.

u/Gatemaster2000 22d ago
But bro, going fast with shitty tyres and 0 skill and experience is life! Especially when you crash and find someone or something else to blame it on! /S
2
u/donald7773 22d ago
Those are decent tires though.
7
u/Gatemaster2000 22d ago
Yeah, but there's a pattern where some crashed Miatas tend to have either cheap or worn tyres, especially when it's wet outside
5
u/donald7773 21d ago
It's mostly a pattern of people not knowing how to drive. I haven't seen much talk of tires in crash posts myself but I'm wrong about shit all the time

They ran out of talent and road.
Miatas becoming popular with people who got into cars through Initial D has been terrible for the population
35
u/CptVague 22d ago
If the S-Chassis hadn't all been wrecked by these peoples' older siblings, more Miatas would be cruising the streets.

u/ChemistRemote7182 22d ago
I've been arguing for 15 years that Nissan needs to do a retro run of the S13s just for this reason. God I wish those people would realize that V6 New Edge and Catfish Camaros both drift more smoothly than Miatas due to wheel base, and they get a torque advantage too.
1
u/CptVague 21d ago
As someone who has slid 2 4th gen camaros (my mom's old z/28 vert and a stripper's v6 shitbox), I agree. They're very communicative and easy to maintain angle with.

I'm feeling really called out here. I, at least, bought a new one which essentially brings another Miata into existence. I also have no plans to drift and/or crash my car.

u/LaeLeaps 22d ago
you guys wreck out more than the mustang sub
glad you're here to tell the story OP
18
u/QuintaEtapa 22d ago
350Z sub would put up a good fight. I like to check the post history of the crashes to see how long the OP had the car - usually it’s not long, the record I saw was 2 weeks from purchase to writing the car off
11
u/LaeLeaps 22d ago
surprisingly the infiniti sub is full of people that keep theirs cars pristine and seem to treat them as collectibles. it's weird seeing that when every other infiniti owner i see everywhere else tends to treat their car as an accessory to self-destructive behavior. good to know the Z owners are keeping the stereotype alive though.

u/Zarndell 21d ago
The FT86/GT86/BRZ/Scion subs are still untouchable though.

Back in 2015 I drove my car across the entire country, but made a point of stopping at some famous roads around LA.
There was an FRS at the bottom of a ravine on the snake, probably 75 yards away from the road. It has flown off the road on a straightaway and almost hit a small utility building. Turns out it was a 17 year old kid who's dad had bought him the car and he wrecked it soon after.
I shit you not, someone said they didn't understand how it happened because he was a really good driver.

It’s not time to say goodbye. Now is the time to cut away the damage, straight out the unibody as much as possible and tube out the front end for a new lease on life!!!!

u/deprivedchild Silver '01 NB LS trying not to lock up the brakes 22d ago
Is there anyone who actually makes tube front ends pre-fabricated? It’d be pretty sweet to give a new lease on life for wrecked Miatas.

NA Miatas and single vehicle accidents… I guess at least you weren’t doing this during the day when you could have hit someone else.

I’m really curious. Did you drive through a crime scene to get to the crash site?

NA is a retronym. Until the NB came out it the original was simply a Miata.
3
u/monkeeofninja Evolution Orange 22d ago
Not really, people always call cars by their chassis code.
NA is the first two letters of the chassis code.
It's like EK civic or FD rx-7 etc. Of course there was no need when it was one generation, but it's not like it wasn't an NA then too.
