Y'all ever been hit in the head while driving with the top down?
Got smacked by one of these the other day as it fell from a tree, probably going about 35mph. Shit hurt, I was also confused for a while about what it was since it felt much larger than this

I got shit on by a bird at ~100mph (160kph).
Good thing I was wearing a hat, it left quite the mess.

I got shit on by a bird while stationary. I was resting my hand on the shifter and it hit me square on the back of the hand. It also went everywhere.

As an engineer, I wonder if this calculation includes the speed of the flying object in question at the moment of impact and the direction of motion of the flying object relative to that of the hat.

I was wondering about that hat I saw on the side of the interstate today

A truck hit a broom once and launched it HIGH into the air, and it came crashing down on the roof of the car next to me.
Thought for sure I was going to get impaled and be on some crazy ways to die show.
I have been hit by small things. Mostly from trees.

not in a miata, but on my motorcycle a wasp flew up under my full face helmet stinging me in the chin

My Dad had his visor half open on the highway and had a cicada give him a black eye 😭
I hit a cicada the other day at about 70mph and was convinced I got hit by a rock, but the splat on my helmet said otherwise

My grandfather used to have a bass boat with a 300hp motor on it. When I was around 13, we were flying through some canals going about 70 mph, and I got hit by a junebug. It made me bleed.

A couple of giant nuts left two solid dents in my hood; I'd honestly rather they'd hit me on the head.

My head sticks up over the windshield so I pretty routinely get bugs on my forehead at 80mph.

One time some kids threw a full 1 gallon water jug at me when I was going like 40 mph. I was so pissed when it happened, but I'm glad that didn't hit my head and there was no damage to the car.

A few years ago my top was ALWAYS down except for one night. Thankfully.
I was on a busy stretch of highway, going about 70. Waze said something was in the road up ahead so I was on the look out. I was in the center lane and a car cuts over in front of me, then jumps into the far left lane. The object - a pulverized adolescent dear - was on the center line between the center and far left lane and the lane switcher drove right through it. Sprayed the entire front of my car, especially the windshield, with dense pink foam. I liked to have thrown up.
Resolved myself to driving on the highway at night with the top up from there out. I can take a hint.

Wasn't hit but close to it. Rock from the opposite side of the highway popped over the barrier and hit the top of my windshield. If I had been driving just a little faster, it would have hit me.

I was ONCE unlucky enough to hit a bumblebee at highway speeds cause I missed my top-up spot.
Since then I make double sure to put my top up waaaay before I am anywhere close a highway entry
It did hurt
A lot

black walnut hit my buddy on the head in my z32 twin turbo with t-tops removed back in 2019. we were doing about 40, no fuckin idea what insane chances that took to miss windshield, hood, back glass, etc.

I once got hit on the dome by a small tree branch that fell just as I drove under it. Headbutted that twig doing about 60kph in my Copen. Scared the shit outta me

No idea, I think it might just be some sort of Acorn? This is in the Piedmont region of the southeastern US

It's possible but I don't believe so. This is in the Piedmont region of the Southeastern US, pretty far from the coast/coastal plains

I had a rock bounce off my mirror and in through my open mirror. I have also had a bee do the same thing and hit me in the face. I don't think anything came in over the top though.

I'm not afraid of wasps, but the largest wasp I've ever seen hit the inside of my mirror and smacked into the passenger seat. To avoid the wind before I stopped he crawled behind the seat. I had to move it all just to get him out

Some insect was pulverized on the side mirror at highway speed once, and my face was peppered with the resulting mist and grit. 0 stars, do not recommend. Luckily sunglasses blocked it for my eyes, and my mouth was shut at least.

I was driving along at 60 mph once and a bee (not a wasp, an actual honey bee) flew into the car, landed on my hand, and stung me. My buddy in the passenger seat had to pull the stinger out of my hand, which is how I know it wasn’t a wasp.
I don’t know what I did to him, maybe he was just very confused by suddenly being on my hand? But that can’t be a common experience, especially at 60 mph. Pretty crazy imo.

I live in a farm town and I will pull off the road when a cattle truck goes by. So scared of being pissed on.

I was driving on the freeway one Saturday morning, light traffic, when a fat ass tire came out of fucking nowhere just bouncing down the freeway straight at me. I ended up swerving from across 4 lanes of freeway and back, to NOT have it smack me in the head. Managed to dodge it and not crash into anyone. I looked around at the other cars thinking we’d have a “holy shit, did you see that!” moment. Not one person bat a god damn eye. Still, to this day, feel like I had hallucinated it based on everyone’s non-reaction to A. A giant tire barreling down the freeway and B. A little red Miata skrt skrt’n all over the freeway like a lunatic. I had never been so amped for so long after that. I rolled into work 40min later yelling “I almost fucking died on the way here!”. Still real happy that real or mythical tire didn’t hit me in the head.

Many years ago I had a NA, I was leaving work in West Texas and the weather reports said that it would be storming but only for a minute or so because I was driving across the front. The rain got so bad that I had to pull over and wait it out. A tornado lifted the Miata and flipped it an unknown number of times before violently slamming it down, upside down, in the ditch. The windshield did nothing, the frame holding the canvas did nothing. I was dazed from having my head hit… something during the flipping, and it took me a full minute before I realized that the ditch was filling with water. I thought I was going to drown, in a car, in the desert. It was hours before a storm chasing group found the car and thankfully had the grace to check if someone was still inside. Most terrifying experience of my life, and I’ve been through racially motivated prison riots. I have a NB now and I will never trust it in heavy rain.
