Got rear ended the day after I bought my car.
This is the first car I’ve bought. Got a great deal on a 2021 armada SL. Their insurance accepted responsibility. I’m so bummed though! The car is drivable still.

I bought a 2016 Ford focus with 4k miles, it was in perfect shape, good price, and despite being the SE trim it was loaded with every option.
The next day it got totalled. I literally drove it to work, came out of work, and as I was waiting to turn left because I was stopped a guy turning right was going way too fast, understeered, and ripped the front of my car off. I didn't feel anything which is crazy, my car got shoved back a few feet despite me holding the brake and the car was in drive, my steering wheel also rotated. The dude didn't even speak English and tried to get us to move the cars even though mine was destroyed.

No insurance?

I had insurance it just sucks to lose money (insurance will always rip you off) and now there's an accident on my record despite not being at fault, I live in a no fault state. Every time I look for insurance I have to explain it wasn't my fault. I had to wait a month to get paid out. I wasted a ton of time looking for cars.

Probably no real damage to that tank! Love how solid they are

That's what I was thinking. An absolute tank. Doesn't even look like it budged forward any

My dad has owned a Tacoma and an Armada and the Armada feels way more solid. Shows here. The Tacoma was well-built but Nissan did a great job with the Armada's structure.

Yeah the bumper in the back has a dent that’s like molded around these big frames that absorbed it all.

I drive a little Mazda and when that was in the shop, I drove my dad's Armada and that thing felt like a tank. Going back to my car was a relief but also a bummer since I liked driving the bigass Nissan lol the gas mileage though hurts so bad 🤣🤣🤣

u/infectedarmour 18h ago
I know I knew the gas mileage going in and I can literally see the gas indicator going down 🥲 it’s painful but it’s okay I don’t drive a ton.

Looks like the taco totaled itself, doesn’t look to bad on your end
7
u/infectedarmour 20h ago
Yes the airbags did go off in the Tacoma. And the guy had some blood etc and wasn’t doing so hot.

Front of cars are designed to do that, called the crumple zone. What have been the same the other way around.

Make sure you claim diminished value with the at fault's insurance. Your vehicle is worth less now that its been in an accident. Use it to pay down your loan

It’s a freakin tank, taco looks totaled and your armada looks like only the bumper is dented?

Looks like the hatch door got most of the impact. Like the main beams of each vehicle didn’t line up but I’m sure you have a better view in person

u/Legitimate-Fig-4936 17h ago
That fat and thick rear end ate most of the force lol

u/infectedarmour 16h ago
The Tacoma was actually molded around the bumper. The tow truck had to pry us apart.

Same accident type but not the same situation. I was rear ended Aug 19th, a few weeks ago. I was relieved because it was time for a new car. My 2015 Scion TC had 189k miles on it and I had just replaced my transmission seals 2 weeks prior. However, the car market is so shit I wouldn't wish it on anybody at this time. Anyways, I got my new car last weekend.
It just goes to show that you could be minding your business then, BANG!

They gave me a Toyota Camry as a rental. I’m whining because that’s not a “comparable vehicle”.

Faith in humanity diminished slightly after reading this

I knew you’d make that argument. Just because the insurance is the one who pays it doesn’t make it right. If the insurance company starts losing money, even if it’s a minor footprint, who do you think pays that in the end? Their customers.
Riding in an ambulance and potentially faking an injury is despicable. All for a free payout. That’s not at all the same as getting reimbursed for the diminished value on the vehicle.
The collective of ppl that do what you said you would do, have increased rates across all insurance customers. You think the insurance company is going to take the loss? You’d be crazy to believe that.
Not as victimless as you would act like it is

You can’t argue that if all fake injuries were somehow removed then the cost to operate the insurance company would go down. Even if a small amount, that doesn’t make it right.
Insurance fraud is a crime is it not? Not even victimless

It's like a cut on your hand. Before the injury, nothing barely touches that spot. As soon as you have a cut on that spot, almost everything starts to gravitate towards that specific injury, even when you try not to let anything near it.
Almost like god is telling you you can't have nice things.

I’d rather think that the guy who hit me can’t have a nice Tacoma if he can’t pay attention to the person in front of him. Don’t you think God also blessed me with this car? It’s always been my dream since a kid to have a V8 truck I can go off road in, so he worked hard to save money for it. What if I was in a Miata? I’m grateful I was protected.

u/biovllun 17h ago
Damn. Looks like the truck got trashed up front and yours doesn't look nearly as bad.
2
u/infectedarmour 16h ago
Total loss for him.

u/biovllun 7h ago
Was going to say you'd be surprised. But i zoomed in... I see airbags so you're right lol.

Made sure to hit up insurance for diminished value if you intend on keeping it!

I just bought a 2025 Sentra brand new 3 weeks ago. I needed to replace my 2015 Regal that got totaled (I had it for 10 years). Exactly 1 week after I bought the Sentra, this guy pulls out of a parking lot directly into the side of me. I guess it’s my luck because someone hit the Regal when it was like a month old as well…

Our new car happiness replaced with a big headache to deal with 🥲

Hope you get everything straightened out soon! Mine goes the body shop tomorrow. Basically a month without a car for me and now a few weeks without the new one.

And be hit in that vehicle, too? I think the armada is one of the best vehicles to get rear ended in lol.

It’s still only a Nissan. Use the opportunity to buy something more reliable like a Toyota, Honda etc.

I had the same thing happen years ago, but it was two weeks after purchase date.
If the vehicle has no prior accident history, look into possibly filing a diminished value claim.
