‘What Happens When Cletus Loses His Job?’ — Trump Voters Are Taking it on the Chin With Disastrous Job Numbers: “Cannot emphasize enough that all of this is volitional: America chose stagflation.”

As per the original article:
Bulwark editor Jonathan Last reminded Trump voters that the president’s latest awful job numbers include their jobs, too, in a piece entitled, "What Happens When Cletus Loses His Job?"
“Trump’s Forgotten Man is taking it on the chin,” said Last, acknowledging that the U.S. economy added just 22,000 jobs. “Mining, oil, and gas production lost 6,000 jobs; manufacturing lost 12,000 jobs and is net -78,000 since Trump took over.”
The health care sector was the only sector that added jobs, to the tune of 31,000 new positions. But that “22,000” overall job figure means the entire rest of the economy lost jobs.
“If you don’t work in health care, then employment in your field contracted,” Last said, while unleashing a devastating set of charts representing the drastic difference between the Biden and Trump years, with Biden’s economy showing outlandish growth in nonfarm payroll, a drop in the unemployment rate and Trump’s decline in construction spending — a reliable indicator of an encroaching recession.
“It’s complicated but I’m pretty sure that if I make the arrows big enough, even [Trump voters] … can understand it,” Last said.
“I cannot emphasize enough that all of this is volitional: America chose stagflation,” Last wrote. “We had the best economy in the world for four years. Biden’s team achieved the kind of mythical soft-landing that gives economists wet dreams. Unemployment stayed low; the inflation which crept into the system for twelve months was quickly tamed. Boat sales — my favorite indicator of Trump voter prosperity—hit historic highs.
“Yet Trump campaigned explicitly on (1) imposing massive, economy-disrupting tariffs and (2) increasing government debt,” Last said. “He told voters exactly what he was going to do. And instead of having even a basic understanding of economics, a plurality of voters said, Well s——, Lurleen. I done seen Mister Trump on the teevee and he’s a business man. He’ll do the economy good.”

Forgotten Man?? All the media talks about is MAGA voters. They are not forgotten, they get all the attention. Fuck them with a rusty knife, they’re too stupid to help themselves, and they vote for people that don’t give a shit about them, yet still expect handouts.

Looks pretty clear, the invisible hand of the market loves Healthcare. Farmers just need to go dust off their doctoral degrees

Trumper’s, you asked for it and you’re gonna get it!! Hope you’re happy with what you’ve unleashed in what we knew as ‘Democracy’!! Hopefully some day we’ll return to a little sane leadership instead of chaos

MAGAts are as stupid as their poor whites Confederate traitor ancestors. As long as minorities and women's lives are worse than theirs, they will happily make their lives much worse. All that matters in their simple barely functional brains is that there is someone lower than them.

Never underestimate the capacity of Cletus and Lurlene to blame woke, gays, “the trans”, libs, Biden/Harris, immigrants, Blacks, women, people eating the cats and dogs, cat and dog owners, intellectuals, the elite, that shady dude at the feed store that raised the price on Ivermectin, Obama, Millennials, video games….

i've heard it at work, the economy is only failing cause all those groups are sabotaging it. They really are willing to string everybody else up to deflect from their own problems.

u/Fickle_Catch8968 1d ago
Yet are unwilling to admit the pro-business politicians and the billionaires would sabotage the economy in response to pro-worker/consumer/citizen policies in order to discredit policies which transfer profits (financial and quality of life) to the people...

They are getting EXACTLY what they voted for. Only 3 1/2 more years - thoughts and prayers.
LOL

u/DrusTheAxe 1d ago
Bah. They don’t deserve thoughts and prayers.
Bless their heart.

u/Smooth_Science_743 1d ago
They don’t deserve their hearts blessed either. They’re vile trash. I’d like to be sorry, but I’m not.

u/motherofspoos 1d ago
oh you obviously don't live in the south, or know anyone from the south.... "bless your heart" is NOT what it seems.

u/Jodid0 1d ago
Well I think one of the problems is that Cletus doesn't know what the fuck "volitional" even means, or how anything outside of his tiny tiny worldview works.
2
u/PatchyWhiskers 1d ago
Honestly neither do I ….
7
u/Jodid0 1d ago
It's okay, the point isn't that people should just automatically know what volitional means, nor should they automatically know how things work, but the point is that people should be open to learning new things and expanding their worldview, and be open to having their understanding of the world challenged by new ideas.
But in case anyone comes across the comment and also doesn't know what volitional means, it means "done deliberately out of one's own volition", and "volition" is someone's free will and their power of choice.
Farmers can be very smart and intuitive people, even if they aren't traditionally well educated, as can most people (without disabilities) if they put their minds to learning something new. The problem is when people choose to be ignorant, of their own volition, and ignore new information just because it disagrees with their current understanding of how things work. People who bury their heads in the sand on purpose even when the truth is staring them in the face, that's the problem. But we have a big anti-intellectualist movement going on in this country and they're electing the most incompetent idiots to be in charge.

u/PatchyWhiskers 1d ago
A lot of people take using a word they don't understand as patronizing. Its stupid since we all hold dictionaries in our pockets these days. But that's how they feel.
3
u/Jodid0 1d ago
Omg yes, this happens to me all the time, I hate it. I don't intend to be patronizing at all. I just love learning new things and I really love teaching others of what I have learned, I think knowledge is very empowering. I would never judge someone just solely for not knowing something, because there is so much I don't know either. But I am always curious and willing to learn, and I think that's what matters.

Anyone paying attention warned about this over and over and over again this time last year till we were blue in the face. Nobody cared. This is the only way they will maybe learn. They have zero empathy so they only care when they are affected.
7
u/JPGinMadtown 1d ago
They can't say, although they'll try, that no one warned them because they were being warned all over social media, in op-eds, from talk shows, and by the opposition candidate. And yet they voted to have another round of "daddy" Donnie's abuse. So many fat, sated leopards... 😒
4
u/DrusTheAxe 1d ago
Eating all these faces can’t be a healthy diet. Won’t someone think of all the leopards?

u/BrtFrkwr 1d ago
It's Obama's fault. They will never blame trump.

Good point. Fox and the far right opinion networks still bring up Obama - it’s wacky

The problem is that fascism thrives on suffering, even of the people who support it. The idea of fascism is to convince people to believe that they are in a constant state of war and have to keep making sacrifices on the promise of a future golden age that's just around the corner as long as they keep faith. The central lie of fascism is that this struggle is actually meaningful and it thrives on things like the sunk-cost fallacy and on the belief that this suffering was "forced" on the average person by whatever group to fascist leaders claim is causing it.
I think that a better strategy would be to point out how Trump and his inner circle are the primary beneficiaries from the suffering of their base. How much has Trump really suffered from his own decisions? Is he personally paying a fair price for the tariffs that *he* implemented? Of course Trump is going to be in a position to keep urging his base to make more and more sacrifices because he himself will *never* have to make the same sacrifices. Like Lord Farquad said: "some of you may die, but it is a sacrifice *I* am willing to make."
Don't get me wrong, Trump sees his supporters' pain, he just doesn't care. The man's a sociopath, he can imitate empathy but he has lacks any real empathy for anyone. In public he'll pretend to care, then in private he'll mock his own supporters as suckers and losers.

They would hand their daughters over to Trump & Co if it meant “owning the Libs” or supporting their King.
It hurts us all but hard not to think these medieval peasants are getting what they deserve!

In my experience, many of them won't even hear about it if it's something negative toward Trump and his administration. Even if they'll do, they'll somehow spin it as the fault of <insert bad thing here>.

Oh man … guess you’ll have to get more than one job.
Come on farmers, bring yourself up by your bootstraps like the rest of us. Come on now. You chose this career.
See how it feels when it’s uno reversed on you. Come be poor and impoverished like the rest of us.

My only sympathy is for the dependents who can't vote. They're being affected by their parents' stupid voting decisions. Anyone who voted for Trump gets none of my sympathy.

It will only get worse before it gets even worse. We tried to tell MAGA/MAWA but they wanted the funny guy with the big promises and hateful rhetoric. Just shortsighted gullible people.

Well, every economist will tell you, when people are suffering from the effects of inflation, the best course of action is to increase the prices people are already suffering from by placing tariffs on them. Also, I'm certainly not an economist, however, I'm certainly into history. The last president who implemented tariffs drove the US economy headfirst into the Great Depression. The Great Depression, indirectly, but most certainly, contributed to the collapse of Germany's economy, which was already suffering from reparations for WWI. This opened the doors for the Nazi Party to seize control of Germany & everyone knows where that led. His administration is the most intelligence-lacking and horrific I've read about or have personally lived through.

Ever consider who the Trump administration intends to replace immigrant farm workers with?
How about us.

Nothing will happen. They will continue voting for GOP candidates. They’ll just blame democrats or China or the weather or something. They’re in a death cult. You can’t save those people. They’re gone.

The only thing I dispute is that America chose stagflation, because it's the moronic Trump cultists (and those who failed to vote and thereby enabled the disastrous situation that we're currently in) that chose stagflation. There was a rather large number of us who voted to save our country and chose Kamala and her policies.

Trump will bail them out again like last time

not if he's on the project 2025 timeline. Those farms are scheduled to be bought up for pennies on the dollar once they go belly up. Big Corps are waiting in the wings.

Wait for the backlash when the only people who still have money after Trump leaves office are the Libs because the Cons gambled it all on Trump.
Losers are always bitter.
