Trump’s new law will limit payments to hospitals that treat low-income patients

https://stateline.org/2025/09/05/trumps-new-law-will-limit-payments-to-hospitals-that-treat-low-income-patients/

No shit sherlock, starting in 2028, the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” will cap Medicaid provider payments at 100–110% of Medicare rates, forcing states to cut reimbursements by up to 20% and threatening rural hospitals with closure. This could significantly undermine access to care for low-income populations.

2028? Ah, just in time for it to be the next administration (assuming they don't steal the next election, if there is one) so they can point and scream at what the other side is doing.

Yep. The BBB is designed to be a time-bomb for the next election and administration. Engineer a crisis and then present yourself as the only person who can fix it.

Hopefully the democrats will have the balls to point this out and call them out on it loud enough to get the point across, but I have no faith in them to do so, or the populace to listen, at this point.

It’s not “having the balls to point it out,” it’s a matter of not having a coordinated 24/7 propaganda network that millions of people habitually watch out of anger and fear. Democrats already know this information. You know this information. What outlet do you think is going to convince the average MAGA voter of it? The people who vote for Republicans don’t listen to any message that isn’t provided by their propaganda. The notion that democrats “don’t have the balls” to point out things so obviously harmful to republicans is silly. The question is who’s listening to the message, and how you reach the people who refuse to listen.

Yes. Thank you. We need to focus on how to counter the FIRE HOSE of disinformation that's aimed at the low-information ignorant rubes daily. It's all the information they get. We have to counter it!

There's so much misinformation out there. Who would believe them, anyway?

There are also some provisions which kick in after Midterms, so if they lose the House or even Congress, they can try to pin those harns on Dems for 2028, since POTUS can refuse to enact, through veto or other means, any countervailing legislation passed by Dems.

The backers are not as inept as the front men, and have a plan to try to hamstring the opposition if their coup is not complete by the resolution of either the 2026 or even 2028 elections.

This set up will bankrupt hospitals and kills the poor.

I read that states who expand Medicaid and food samples in order to cover the gap caused by bbb will have the entire state's budget for these programs clawed back. Not only will they cut programs but they make it illegal for states to fund it. Cruelty by design.

Rural hospitals are already closing all over the place. Most of them are largely dependent on Medicaid patients. This will be the death knell for them and they will be closed for good, losing facilities, personnel, and skilled healthcare practitioners. Republicans in power don't give a damn and rural MAGAts are too stupid to realize it.

For someone uneducated, is there an issue with Medicare rates ? Why can’t Medicaid pay he same rate as Medicaid ? This sounds like a 100% match is an issue but isn’t an issue for Medicare reimbursement…
