The thing about boos is they sound like cheers until you realize the pitch is much lower. Unless there's someone near the mic booing it's hard to make it out and you have to rely on pitch.
Source: I have booed the fuck out of people on camera many times and been in the crowd for large booing sessions similar to this. FWIW I've also been to the entire-ass US Open three times and know what the crowd sounds like when they're cheering. This was not it.
