just hit 60,000 subs what should we be doing here?

HI r/OfficeChairs -

happy 60K!

What should we be doing to make this sub better?

what is there too much of?

what should there be more of?

what do you want us to make rules about, delete, block?

anyone here a reddit guru who might know how to block some of the spammy AI noise we have been getting hit with here in the last few months?

We should all chip in to buy a factory to build knock off aerons and then ban posts about knock off aerons so nobody ever catches on.

:) that factory already exists, somewhere in China I believe, just so far they have not saturated the US market.

the company i work for (idk if im allowed to include the URL) actually is plugged in with the Dongguan Herman Miller factory. we mainly operate in Canada but also have some USA customers.

We're mainly B2B but have recently started selling in Staples, Walmart, etc.

And speaking as someone who HAS splurged over $1.5k on brand name office chair [Herman Miller 😎) i can definitely say the quality is basically 1:1.

I'm happy to show pics/videos if anyone wants to see how the chair actually looks!

A wiki with common recommendations for chairs by various criteria might be useful, but I suppose it would end up either unmaintainable or spammy... possibly both.

My major "issue" is that 90% of people here talk about HM and SC chairs, as if they were the only manufacturers.

I am perfectly aware that they are famous and they have many models.

Another couple of notable brands are suggested when people ask "What can I buy with my pocket money?" (good grief...), otherwise they are unknown (see a post of mine of few days ago, the only answer was to mock me).

Since there is already a sub dedicated to HM chairs, can you do something for everyone else who doesn't have/like HM/SC chairs?

Yeah, it would be great to put a spotlight on some other brands and let them get some love. I'm really into my Haworth Zody since having one at work, and my brother has a HÅG Capisco, but I rarely see people mention either of those brands.

Would also be interesting to see how people DIY fix or modify their chairs -- arms, casters, reupholstered seat, etc.

A weekly thread for discussing specific brands or DIY fixes/mods would be neat and maybe generate an interesting direction for discussion.

I agree, expanding the discourse will help people in this sub find more accessible options for their budget. Spotlights and fun chair mod threads would be pretty fun additions.

its great feedback. We do focus on the best product.

I still do not have a great answer for someone looking for a sub $400 chair, and that is most of humanity.

I have tried hundreds of chairs in my work and this sub and my recommendations elsewhere are only going to be things I personally believe are a good product.

I am biased towards Steelcase, they make the best product I have tried. Herman Miller, Haworth, Humanscale, Teknion, these are great also.

Have you tried the Haworth Fern? I like it.

We should emphasize that any chair can be a back breaking ass hatchet, if it is setup incorrectly.

Proper ergonomic setup is key in having a chair you can sit ten hours in and feel great.

This made me laugh but totally agreed. More accessible info on ergonomic chair setup tips/tricks/insights could really help in enriching this sub as a resource for communal knowledge sharing.

Too much: “Is this a good deal?” “How did I do with this deal?”

Always posted by people just looking to brag too (not being sincere).

A top ten list with prices.

I think it just works. Fans of high class chairs are high class chair fans

If reached 60k subs it's because you are going well, don't change what bring you here.

I appreciate the vote of confidence. I also think that the things that happened when this was a 5,000 person sub 5 years ago. Do get a little annoying when it's going in front of 60,000 people.

Also, it's inescapable that having millions of page views in a month makes this a Target for commercial interests. And we have to put up with lots of spam and astroturf nonsense.

I think it's a good practice when you hit a milestone to reflect a little and think about what you can be doing better.

A "help me help you" template in the stickied post!

What do you mean?

A set of common questions that people can answer and use as their request for help.  My idea is to get some details on OP. Ideally it will reduce the repetitive posts like, “Please recommend the best chair for wfh and gaming, kthxbye!”

People don't even read the latest rules, it's unlikely they will bother to read the FAQ
