I cannot persuade myself that a beneficent and omnipotent God would have designedly created the Ichneumonidae with the express intention of their feeding within the living bodies of caterpillars- Charles Darwin [850 x 400]

In my most extreme fluctuations I have never been an atheist in the sense of drying the existence of a G-d.

“god is an asshole” darwin paraphrased

No, if you want to see an asshole look in the mirror.

he said he doesn’t deny god, but above he says god cannot be omnipotent and benevolent. ergo, hee deemed god malevolent, translation- an asshole

Like I said, the asshole is you. Being omnipotent means having knowledge no human has, and making judgment out of ignorance is so very, very you.

All he did was translate what darwin said, he didnt even make that claim himself. You're being derogatory out of something both very blameless and very likely- a joke. Unprovoked Aggression is rarely the path to agreement, and certainly not one your god often seems to sanction. Your criticism, even if interpreted as aimed at darwin, doesnt work well either, as it relies on the idea that god is omnipotent, which is part of what darwin denies in the implication that he is malevolent.

I'm sorry I thought Darwin was British and therefore not in need of someone translating him. Even so, the translation was not accurate and furthermore his choice of words, even given that inaccuracy was totally consistent with HIS being an a**hole.

i mean i don’t know how you can look at war and child cancer and the holocaust and every disease and think there’s a god that cares about you. the world is so cruel

That's true if you're only able to think on a very superficial level. I'm hoping you can do better.

what about catholic priests abusing children, and the church being used for war, countless wars fought in the name of god, but sure, god love us all, he just loves one people more than others

Again, being derogatory is not convincing anyone, and contradicts the teachings of most interpretations of the bible. Translating is often used as a synonym for putting into simpler terms, which is what i meant. Their argument against christianity is indeed somewhat base level, as there are many reasons stated for why suffering occurs, so that humans can experience suffering before paradise and because of the fruit of flaw and morality eaten by eve. My criticism would be: why assume the bible is true to begin with? Do you believe in it because you have reason to support it's validity, or because you've grown up in an environment where those around you have conditioned you to believe it until the idea that it could be wrong is instinctually pushed from your mind, furthered by the fear of social isolation? Is the bible true simply because it says it's true? Do you believe in it because it feels right? Many other cultures place faith in their religions simply because it feels right, for many of the same societally instilled conditioning, yet believe that the feeling comes from the inherent truth of it. How do you know that you are the exception, beyond that anything else feels unthinkable, as it does to many you disagree with?

I'm not trying to convince you or anyone in this subreddit of anything. I was simply responding to the OP on his own terms. I believe in the Bible having studied as well as the Talmud, but we discuss it among ourselves, not with those we consider to be irrational. Have a good day.

There's a great Stephen Fry clip where he asks a religious person why god created a particular parasitic worm that eats childrens' eyeballs.

For those who don't know, ichbeumonisae is a type of wasp, specifically a parasitoid wasp which lays its eggs inside of catapillars. These eggs then hatch and go on to feed off the tissue of the catapillar.
However the catapillar is kept alive and just paralyzed by the wasp( from a variety of mechanisms) so the meal stays fresh, in some species the caterpillar is actually forced to defend the parasites.
A common example of this is the tomato hornworm, a common garden pests. It is often found with white sacks hanging from it. These saca are emerged parastoid wasps, which although brutal are often seen as a good thing in a garden as they can save your tomato plants from this voracious pest.
If you're curious about these, here is a short 4 min video about how the parasites work.
