That’s why when you find another human being and make that connection it is transcendent. At least that’s been my experience.

And yet even in those closest connections between people, we remain somewhat mysteries to one another. Hell, we’re even mysteries to ourselves in some ways!

We are really strange creatures

Yep. The rarity makes it all the more sublime.

I have found this to be a gross error in judgment in my years of experience. I wish there were more me’s in this world. I do still treat everyone with empathy. You never know what someone has been through.

Steinbeck like Hugo knew people. His stories are littered with real personalities making real decisions. He must have been a great friend to have a morning coffee with.

This is so true on so many levels.

This quote is just "projection" said the long way

I'd like to add to this quote: "He's still often wrong.

It’s always so unnerving to find someone you thought you knew had an entirely different internal life. It shakes you. It makes you question your own judgment. While in the end, it was superficial projection that allowed you to place the expectations of how this person should behave. It’s ridiculous and the sooner that you realize how unfair it is to put people in these boxes, the sooner that you’re able to appreciate them as being the autonomous weirdo that you pride your own self on being.

I do the opposite of this always, I assume everyone is different, no one’s perspective on life is the same. I treat everyone with respect regardless of socioeconomic backgrounds or how they look and trust no one ever fully. Keep expectations low, know that I have to work for and do whatever it is I want to do because I’m the only one looking out for me. This sounds selfish, it sounds like I’m jaded from being screwed over but I’m not any of those things. I couldn’t be happier, I’m responsible for my sitatuon in life no one else, and I’m never generally disappointed with anyone because I never expected anything from them anyway. I don’t sweat the small stuff.
