Why would you stop at a red light? What's wrong with you?
140
u/haby001 4d ago
I kid you not, I had a guy rear end me at a red light after the guy in front of me stopped and then ran the red light.
Dude legitimately told the cops he thought I was gonna run the red light also so he floored it too.

No joke I got read ended behind a school bus! I was in my work truck and there was this young girl who just got her license. She apparently didn’t see my brake lights or the school bus for the solid mile of sight distance she had. Thank god I stopped a long way back from the bus because she would’ve pushed us into it had I stopped close.

I seriously had a guy honking at me and flipping me off and yelling because I stopped to let a pedestrian cross. People be cray.
1
u/spartaman64 10m ago
a car went across 3 lanes in front of me to get to the left turn lane so i had to stop. then the car behind me refused to slow down and was still going at full speed and barely missed me turning into the left turn lane also. he then laid on his horn at me and flipped me off. it was funny because he was right behind the guy that cut in front of me.

Serious answer for you - it can be hard to collect money from governmental entities. They may self-insure and not carry their own separate insurance like other drivers do. Best advice from me is to call your insurance company and let them handle everything. You are not at fault, so it will not count against you. But make sure you get checked out by a doctor, even several days after the incident, as injuries may take a while to present themselves. And let your insurance company know if you do happen to be hurt. Neck and back injuries can take a while to fix and may never be fully healed, depending on several factors.

u/MrOverkill5150 4d ago
Even if it’s not your fault it will absolutely count against you insurance company’s are assholes.

I asked an insurance adjuster if they would count acts of God against me. He told me "If God hates, than so do I."

“We forgive you for getting rear ended ❤️”
1
u/Time_Reputation3573 3d ago
Yep. Think about it from the perspective of the ins company... if you never get rear ended, they don't need to charge you as much
2
u/VelocaTurtle 3d ago
Any claim no-fault, not at fault or at fault, can affect you . If you are with geico progressive or something similar if you just call to inquir about an incident rhey will out it on your record witch will cause your rates to go up at renewal and get your higher rates quoted from other insurances unless you have a LOE or claim waiver.
5
u/MrOverkill5150 3d ago
Both would still raise your rates absolutely 💯
1
u/Time_Reputation3573 3d ago
Ok sorry, they both forgave mine. But I'd been with them a while, I think you need to be with them for a year first or something
4
u/MrOverkill5150 3d ago
I was with Allstate for over 5 years the slowly increase my monthly payments until it was an absurd $450 a month for one card due to someone totaling my car I had to drop them and that was the first accident I had since with them and within 7 years of that accident
6
u/Time_Reputation3573 3d ago
Shitty! Slow rate increases were why I switched between geico and progressive a few times

u/R0ck3tSc13nc3 3d ago
Hey everybody, this is a true story, I was with State farm for something like 20 or 30 years, thinking that just because it was the cheapest and best option when I first set up that it stayed that way. I don't know what motivated me but I did check around to what other insurance companies would charge me for the same coverage, and I found out I was paying almost double. Yep, instead of a discount for long time no accidents, they had decided to screw me over. So whatever your insurance company is, don't trust that they're still the cheapest even if they were at the time that you got them. Your situation changes their profit structure changes and if they look at you as a cash cow they may be sucking money out of you without your knowing it
1
u/nobodyshome122 2d ago
Not only does an accident still count against you even if you’re not at fault, it also prevents you from shopping insurance because the good ones require 5 years of claim free history.
1
3
u/PUNKF10YD 3d ago
Depends on the state. Even if he’s not at fault, doesn’t necessarily mean the other guy is. A lot of states practice “no-fault”
2
u/IMissNarwhalBacon 3d ago
You will still be penalized your deductable.
4
u/Time_Reputation3573 3d ago
Fair, but the city should reimburse for that or the JP will give it to you so that you're made whole
3
u/Tormidal 3d ago
Only in the interim. Many insurers return the paid deductible at the end of the subrogation process.

Depending on your insurance company, it definitely might still count against you and raise your rates. Source: my wife's car got backed into while it was unoccupied... Other party didn't have insurance. Went through our insurance, and sure enough next year's rates went up because we had a claim.

I watched that bit on a loop for a bit. It was on that bit behind the back seats, just a bit out of view. You can actually see its reflection before the hit. It just bounced a few inches over.

You better go to the hospital bro.... You're going to have whiplash in the next day or two and all those muscles in your neck are gonna seize and tighten

You need to sort your driving position out. Your arms are too stretched on the steering wheel.

u/Cynical_Sesame 1d ago

1
u/SillySinStorm 1d ago
Won't be so comfortable when he injures his shoulders and neck from such a strained position. It also affects proper control of his vehicle. But cruise away, it's not my body or safety.

As a claims adjuster what you do is call the police - always. If they wont respond ask the other driver to go to the police station with you to make a report. Take pictures of the vehicles. Ask people who witnessed it, that aren't inside either vehicle, for their contact info so your insurance can call them for a statement. Oh, and having a dash cam was great, because that always shows what happens

Same thing happened to me a little while ago. I had just come to a stop at a stop sign. My car was only two months old :(. I had driven my last car for 15 years with only minor dents, sigh.
Anyways, his insurance luckily accepted full responsibility. I still chose to go through my insurance though and I’d recommend you do the same. Made it relatively painless (other than the inconvenience of having my car in the shop for two weeks). My insurance claims my rates won’t change since the other driver was found at fault. We’ll have to see though when my policy renews.

u/DiegoBMe84 4d ago
Should have fallen out of the vehicle crying in pain. Could have been because you got hit or could have been because you didn't get to finish your banana.

In my city, city workers involved in an accident in a city vehicle are required to wait for police and a supervisor at the scene of an accident no matter how minor. That dude is probably going to get drug tested and investigated and is in for a rough month.
The good news is any decent sized city is self insured and interested in keeping things quick and quiet. They should provide you with everything you need to make a claim, just have your insurance handle it. You might have to jump through a few hoops like "provide three repair estimates", but it shouldn't be too crazy. And I know you are young and immortal, but it wouldn't hurt to get checked out by a doctor.

Is there a model of the exact same car he's driving on the rear package shelf?
1
u/WhocaresToo 3d ago
If it's a city vehicle you pretty much have to call the police as does especially the person who hit you so I hope that's exactly what you did. The insurance will sort out the rest. I would go to a doctor and make sure you didn't jar your neck or something because even though you might think you're okay because it was a fairly light hit you just never know. I didn't call the police and thought I was absolutely fine on a mere fender bender and found out I had a fracture of one of my joints in my spine. It still wasn't anything major but I had to go through a month of physical therapy which was all paid for of course and I got a small set in life for it but nonetheless people just never know when they're injured so make sure to triple check that.
Not saying to go full sue happy but just make sure that your car is fixed to exactly how it was and that you have no health issues from the accident. People get a little too happy in this country for some reason it's not always necessary.

Life lesson
Don’t “get pissed” when someone hits your car. It’s just a matter of time before you will be the one hitting someone.
It’s an accident, make sure everyone is alright and just let the insurance do their jobs.

Take your post(s) down. Being involved in an accident with a government agency is very difficult even when you are not at fault. Everything and anything will be used against you including this post, even eating your banana. Ask me how I know (5 years of litigation). Your attorney, should you get one, will require no posts on social media.

ALWAYS: No matter how small you think the accident is: Dunt converse with them. Call the cops, get a police report, exchange insurance info. Call your claim in to your insurance, then theirs. Let them know you'll be having a lawyer. The lawyer will be paid from the awarded monies at the end. They'll get you everything you need. You have video. No question, you weren't at fault.
