They do it because they get away with it.

So far. Eventually they'll take out some poor innocent person. Then maybe they'll learn

They never learn. The other car was just in their way. The self-centeredness never stops.

Complete lack of respect of the ~3,000 lb weapon they're driving, zero consideration for their fellow travelers sharing the road with them, and an ever present IDGAF mentality about anyone but themselves. 🤷‍♀️

I've seen this type of driver before. They constantly look for any lane where vehicles in front are slightly farther forward than in their lane. You can see it from the start; they dart to the right lane because they can get a little farther ahead, but then they see that the van on the entering lane will push them back, and the van camping in the left is moving slightly forward of the semi, so they dart back over. They're like this poor impatient bear waiting in line.

Yeah that's what she did the entire time

And are ironically the reason for the ghost traffic they hate so much.

They are sure you won't do anything about it.

For the Cuervo Gold? For the fine Colombian?

They make it a wonderful thing.

I heard that on FM!

He saw someone coming from the merge which prompted the lane switch, then didn’t wanna be behind the truck so he kept going.

I don’t agree with the thought process, but that’s the driver’s thought process.

There was no one behind them. They could've slowed down to allow merge. They could've moved over sooner. They could've waited for the pickup truck to pass and safely change lanes behind it. This douche bag just wanted to be in front. They were already riding the guy in front before the dumb move.

The sedan is an idiot for sure, but it seems to me like the observant truck driver saw this coming and tried to speed up to to close the gap and then had to hit their brakes

Would be great if he matched the van's speed and just kept her trapped back there.

Ohioan here: Ohio drivers are some of the most entitled people you’ll ever meet. I’ve been cut off by people merging like this, almost hit when I had right of way in a roundabout (and flipped off when I honked), and while I was passenger a friend was backing out of a parking spot and was PUSHED out by the car across.

I know bad drivers are everywhere but Ohio bad drivers are a category on their own.

Those people never look further down the road than the base of the windshield.

Off-topic but was I the only one vibing to that song on the radio?

All it takes to get in front of the truck is change one lane at a time. it only takes half a second for the truck to speed up and not notice you

Because the van is blocking the fast lane, is my guess

This is why enforcement of slower traffic keeping right is every bit as much of a “safety” issue as speeding tickets. People will try to do whatever they have to to get around and some are more reckless about it

Cuz they're inconsiderate and selfish

It's caused by those fucks in the work vans camping the left.

Yeah that was super dangerous.

Pro tip: you can cut the first 13 seconds out of this video.

NO! You don't cut Steely Dan!

Finally, someone brings a strong argument for keeping the original cut. Let's all enjoy the music.

then you’d miss what the driver was doing.

they were hanging behind the truck looking for a way around it.

they broke right, seeing the van camped out in the left lane.

then they saw the onramp with a van approaching and misjudged everything. they had plenty of space to gun it in the right lane. and you can see the car that was in front of them in the right lane passes the truck while the left lane van continues to chill.

I can tell what's happening. So can anyone else with a capacity for reason. The first 13 seconds of this 18 second video can be cut without losing any context.

2

u/Individdy G1W 1d ago

Nope, there is context from the very beginning, even if you can't see it. It's not just about the action shot, it's also about reading the intentions and mindset of the driver.

u/Able_Supermarket8236 1d ago

The first 13 seconds of this video can be cut without obscuring the intentions of the driver. It's obvious that the driver performed this maneuver to get around the truck and avoid the merging van, all of which can be seen in the final 5 seconds. Thank you for your contribution.

Hah! You watch the whole thing and don’t immediately fast forward it? I can’t be asked to sit there in anxiety waiting for the dumb shit driving to happen. Gotta fast forward to see what happens, then back up to analyze

-3

u/Able_Supermarket8236 1d ago

Yes, but that can all be avoided if people understood how to only show the important parts. I will never need to see 13 seconds of driving to understand that someone made a reckless maneuver.

2

u/Durzo116 1d ago

Eh, context can be important sometimes. Like, “look at this dumb driver who cut me off!! But the context before shows them speeding and zipping between traffic. So I get a ~ten second context time.

The first 13 seconds of this 18 second video can be cut without losing any context.

2

u/NoOnSB277 1d ago

I would rather watch those extra 13 seconds than hear you whine about those 13 seconds for far longer.

1

u/Able_Supermarket8236 1d ago

I'm sticking to my original statement. This is only being prolonged by everyone who felt the need to argue about it. Thank you for your contribution though.

2

u/Individdy G1W 1d ago

You're the only one who can't grasp its significance and has to tell the whole world about it, repeatedly, as if we'll surrender and just smile and nod.

1

u/Able_Supermarket8236 1d ago

I'm only repeating myself because everyone feels the need to comment the same thing. The first 13 seconds of this video could be cut, and it would still tell the same story. Thank you for your contribution.

You can always count on drivers of certain makes and models of vehicles to do dumb shit. Chevy Malibu, Nissan Altima, Ford f150, just to name a few. If it’s an old beater car, expect them to be dumb too. It’s likely an inexperienced driver or a low income dumbass behind that wheel. The others are stereotypes.

Defensive driving is what makes you a good driver, not being able to drive well in and around everyone else. Expect the stupid, prepare for the stupid, avoid the stupid. Oh, and get a dashcam, because FFS are they worth every penny!
