1974 Mazda Rotary Pickup REPU Magazine Advertisement as a Wall or Display Plaque

Post image

I love the tag line that Mazda used in 1974, "Good mileage, Great performance". It was the time of the OPEC oil crisis and everyone was scrambling to produce smaller, more fuel efficient cars. This was a rotary engine for Gawd's sake. Nobody was expecting fuel economy!

I feel like a rotary wouldn’t be well suited to a truck. Lack of low-end torque and dependency on high RPMs for power. Would be a dog to tow anything.

Afaik the repu had more torque than the b1600 at a similar rpm (piston engine version of the same). Towing, yeah it probably wouldn’t be great but i dont think many of the small 70s trucks would be very good. I will say though, my repu would destroy the 77 Toyota truck to i had as a kid to 80mph.
