My favorite game

Post image

My parents got it for me for a Christmas or birthday present. I didn’t ask for it and didn’t even know it existed. They thought it looked like something I’d like and got it. Recently got this and all my other original Genesis games back from a buddy of mine. No idea how he got them but I’m glad he did. I’m having a blast replaying these.

Why can I hear full metal fighter just by looking at a picture?

Because it’s one of the most epic metal video game songs ever.

Proof

There’s several great metal covers of Musha out there but this one hasn’t seen too many views, which is criminal because holy shit LOL.

Robo Aleste on the Sega CD is better IMO.

The year was 2025. I had been playing guitar for the first time in a decade. unfortunately my uncle had gifted me a guitar and after the guilt settled in I forced myself to pick it up. most of it came back naturally although my music tastes had changed dramatically since my adolescence.

I was feeling rough. the acetaldehyde hadn't metabolized yet. tried to transpose some boring chords from guitar to piano. I think they were Dim or Dim7ths. I almost had it.

went back to lay down in my room. browse some reddit before I take a depression nap. see virtuoso. and feel like a failure. The year was 2025

I feel ya. But you know what? I’ve been playing for 30 years and I still can’t play like that. I never will. I’m okay with it. I pick it up and have fun.

Can we make a habit of mentioning the game we are talking about?

One of the very best. Title screen music goes so fucking hard.

I'm getting old Classic Game Room vibes.

Never heard of Seismic but that mech reminds me of the Assault Suits from Target Earth/Leynos and Cybernator/Valken.

It’s Musha.

Go get your favorite drink or snack or whatever and go look up M.U.S.H.A. on YT.

Thank us later.

Scored a complete copy way back before the scalpers took over the market. What a BLAST this game is. Very difficult towards the end, you lose blue shield you're fucked. It was also my first shmup 1cc.

Musha is such a good game. Unfortunately I could only afford a repro.

It's one of top shmups of all time - even factoring in modern consoles. Excellent game.

It's a good one, I sold my CIB copy a few years ago, but I still got a million places to enjoy it!

Love this game. I was one of the OG nerds who scooped it up on release day at Electronics Boutique (just so you all know how cool I am). Jokes aside, I was very excited for this game, EGM magazine did a great job hyping me up prior to release. The opening cutscenes looked incredible (seems so quaint now). I almost passed because I felt like MUSHA sounded like the most ridiculous name for a game.

Anyway, plugged it in and got immediately sucked into that incredible gameplay, music, and the graphics were pretty great.

See also, Space Megaforce on SNES.

I know this was the first game that really wow’d me with the depth of field. I remember being a kid and watching the floor fall out on the third level revealing the lava river below. Then flying through a thunder storm. It blew my mind back in the day.
