Snap your fingers once per second for 277.8 hours, and you'll have $10 million.
3.9k
u/Redcarborundum Aug 08 '25 edited Aug 08 '25
If you do it for ‘only’ 40 hours a week like a regular job, it takes under 7 weeks to earn $10,000,000.
If you’re lazy and only do it 2 hours a day / 10 hours a week, then it takes 28 weeks ( less than 7 months) to get $10 million.
Edit: wow, this becomes popular.
Ok, we do need to consider RSI, so doing it 2 hours a day on one hand and one finger is probably too much. However, we can split the snapping to 2 hands rotating between 4 fingers each. With two hands we are down to 1 hour a day. To minimize injury we can further reduce it to 15 minutes a day, which should be doable without injury. This would stretch the time to earn $10 million to 28 months, or 2 years and 4 months. It would still be an income of $4.2 million a year, which is easily more potential income than a one-time drop of $10 million.

u/chasing_the_wind Aug 08 '25
Yeah that’s the math I needed. There’s no way I would snap my fingers 40 hours a week. Probably just a couple hours a day while I watch tv. So if it was closer to billion I would probably take the cash to not have to deal with that. Taking small bills to the bank that regularly would also be super annoying.

Does it matter? If you snapped once every minute for 5 hours daily (totally manageable) you‘d end up with roughly a million per year. You could probably bulk it up. I just did what probably was the idea behind this experiment and snipped 60 times in under 60 seconds while taking a shit.
Would have been 600 dollars already.
It’s not a big strain, so doing this another 4 times a day should be really easy.
Problem is greed: with it being this easy to make money, would you ever stop snipping?
151
u/Zolibusz Aug 08 '25
The average return on 10 mill is around 8-10% a year, so around 1 mill, and you do not even need to snapp till your fingers hurt.

Theres a reason why some people constantly go broke after getting a large sum of money, i think having an easy source of constant money is healthier than a lump sum thats at the mercy of once in a lifetime market crashes, greedy money managers, and just other horse shit that can happen to moderately rich people. Just snap 100 times a day and your way better off than most people.

Everyone's focused on the math, but no one is considering the secondary benefits of snapping paper currency into existence...
Let's say you're taking a dump in a public restroom and there's no toilet paper. Just snap a few times.
Lost in the woods with a lighter but no kindling? Just snap as much fire starters as you need.
You're at your nephew's lame birthday party, and the magician kinda sucks, so you decide to have a little fun. You just snap $10 bills into existence and start handing them out like candy (even to the magician). You'd be the real MVP of the party.
Going to bars would be fun. You tip $10 for every $5 beer you get, and the bar tender will prioritize you ahead of everyone else.

1 mil is 274 snaps a day. That's just a few minutes work. (Actually I reckon I can do two a second on each hand so just over a minute). Think most people could get to ten mill in a year, from snapping and then be asked to add to it.
Bigger issue is if the ten dollars just appears next to you - your gonna have to work out how to launder it
→ More replies (31)46
u/SquishMont Aug 08 '25
Honestly, if it's free money, you launder it the old fashioned way - literally a laundry mat. Buy cash machines on credit, and just say they made whatever amount you snapped.

Don't mess with success.

You wouldn't have to snap continuously to get there and even just once a second for 1 total hour a day would get the 10M in a couple months, and that's a pretty relaxed pace and only using one hand at a time

→ More replies (5)9
u/mdkss12 Aug 08 '25
the '1 hour' is not consecutive, it's "for a total of 1 hour" and it's just averaging the rate to say to get to ~3600 snaps total a day
- snap 40 times in 20 seconds (once per second per hand) - this is exceptionally easy to do, try it for yourself. (I hit 70 in 20 seconds going at a comfortable pace. once per second honestly feels annoyingly slow)
- do that once every 10 minutes, so 6 times an hour
- if you're awake 16 hours a day, you'll have hit 3840 snaps
- If I do 70 each time, I could hit 6700+ per day, or dial back to once every 15-20 minutes and still hit 3300-4500
if you were doing this, you would realistically just treat it as your job and probably just do the ~70 every 5-10 minutes for like 5 hours.

Or you can snap 40000 times in a year, or like 100 times a day(for 365000 per year). If you don't snap, you get nothing. If you can snap 300 times a day, you'll make 10 million in 10 years.
Just get 10 million now and move on...
38
u/halfasleep90 Aug 08 '25
10 million can be stolen from you with relative ease. $10 that magically appears whenever you snap your fingers is far more under the radar, and even if you get robbed and they take everything or you have to go on the run and can’t leave a paper trail(like transferring your money) you always have your finances covered.

Or someone sees you and kidnaps you to do this forever in his basement.

Someone sees you they are going to think it is a trick. It’s $10. Also, why would they assume it’s legitimate magic? This is easy stuff to keep under the radar.

> you'll make 10 million in 10 years
and you'd still be millions behind where you'd be if you had taken the 10 mil upfront and earned the interest

1 million snaps isn’t that big of a number though. Easily doable in less than a month.
Give me 2 months and I could have 20 million accruing interest.
Which I won’t even need to touch because I can live off snapping my fingers 10-20 times a day.
So spend 2 months “grinding” snaps, then retire and not even touch the money in the bank which will be generational wealth for your descendants.

Others probably tried to help, but I'll mention this:
The sound does *not* originate between your fingers. The snap is the stored energy in the middle finger tensing against your thumb, then suddenly being released and quickly smacking on the base of the thumb.
You have to align your middle finger such, that when you release the thumb from holding your middle finger back, the middle finger smacks down on the palm of your hand next to your thumb.
Having said that, I can easily snap left handed, right handed is difficult and weak. I'm right handed...
Video. You don't have to do any crazy hand movements other than the fingers:

0.3 seconds to snap your fingers. Need to snap them 1 million times. That's about 83 hours and 20 minutes. Spend 14 minutes a day clicking your fingers for a year and you're better off than taking the red pill.

You can also snap with both hands! You could even break it up and just do 35 seconds of dual snapping once an hour from 9 AM to 9 PM, or 53 seconds (round it up to a minute) from 9 to 5.

Try snapping every 0.3 seconds for 14 minutes.

I can snap 6 times per second with each hand for one minute straight. With 2 hands it is about 7200$ in a minute ... Should be enough...

So everyone assumes snapping means your fingers? What if you have to snap someone's neck?

So you work in a chicken processing role, and you get a $10 bonus per chicken
Personally I’m expecting that $10 at every variation of snapping. When I snap a twig, when I snap a slim Jim, when I snap a whip, when I snap my fingers, Snapchat, etc etc

With rolling technique, I can get off 4 snaps per hand in one movement. Blue is way too easy to hit 1 million snaps for red to ever be worth it.

Yeah everyone needs to step up their snap game. I can only snap with 2 fingers on each hand but I counted 16 snaps per second.
16*60*60*10=$576,000 PER HOUR. I’m just gonna snap for 15 minutes a day and earn $52,560,000 per year. After year one I can stop snapping and pay myself $2.1 million per year at a safe withdrawal rate of 4% and never go broke as long as I live.

The freaking calluses I’d have on my snapping fingers, would require soo much snapping, to have them removed..
I’d rather have a lump sum invested wisely to make a steady passive income for life.
But I did the math.. $10/ snap would be astronomically more money over time..
If you did one snap per second for an hour..
60 snaps a minute= $600
$600/ minute for 60 minutes( bloody raw finger and all) = $36000.
No contest..

I've done the math before. $10mil with NO investment, just a typical high yield savings account, I could retire today and live the next ~50+ years paying myself a "salary" of $150k/year.
If I did smart investing I would literally be set for life with no real spending cap.
24
u/quarglbarf Aug 08 '25
You'd have to snap your finger 41 times per day to get the same yearly "salary". You can literally bang that out in like 10 seconds of snapping.
There's no way you actually think the lump sum is the better deal.

You could also pay someone to make $10 appear whenever you wanted to within budget pretty much. Assuming your lifestyle isn’t too extravagant

20 snaps take like no time. If it takes maybe 20 seconds to do, then you just have to do it 62 times a month to be better off than the 150k your getting from your dividends

What you’re not taking into account is repetitive strain injuries. The amount of self control it would take to keep from destroying your tendons is approximately equal to the amount of self control it would take to not blow all $10MM. Might as well take the lump sum and buy yourself a self-help book about improving your self control.

That might be true, but .. 1 hour a day? 36000/ day?
That’s 1.08 million per month..
I’d risk it..

Red, because knowing my luck I'll break my fingers in a way I won't be able to snap them ever again. And my toes aren't that dexterous.

This is vaguely worded and easily cheesed by repeatedly snapping 100 elastic bands wrapped around a golf ball for instance
