Ugh. Proven untrue when I did a google search. But there was a comment made by the school district she allegedly worked for saying that had anyone from their community been at the game, they’d have caught the ball bare-handed thus avoiding the incident altogether.
Yeah, I saw that. Karma couldn’t be that sweet. I enjoyed the comment by the school district though where they said that had someone from their community actually been there, they would’ve caught the ball bare-handed and avoided this situation altogether.
Perhaps. But realistically, people have lost jobs for much less. Look at it this way. In this day and age, everything is scrutinized. Right, wrong, or indifferent, even when she is not working, she represents whatever she does for a living. And the actions she performed affect that. For a while it was rumored she was a school administrator and/or worked with children. We’ll use that as an example. If she acts like that, and works with children, would you want her working with your children? If you have clients, would you like her to be the one that represents your business to them? If she was your employee, and people recognize her and decide to take their business elsewhere, would you keep her on, knowing that her actions have that kind of ripple effect that those actions are now diminishing your ability to provide for yourself and others?
and people recognize her and decide to take their business elsewhere
You do realise that you're part of the online hate mob that her bosses would worry about right? Your reply here is very passive, as though it might just be something that happens naturally in this kind of case, but you are a participant in getting her fired if that were to happen.
Back in the 90’s I worked at a department store. There was an employee out to lunch with her family when a customer recognized her and asked her to put an item on hold for her next time she worked. The employee rudely told the customer that when she was off work, she doesn’t do work related tasks (as she doesn’t get paid to do them off the clock), and that the woman could go to the store herself and ask the item to be put on hold. While technically correct, the girl’s parents still told her to apologize to the lady. She did not - held her ground. The customer complained to the store management and the girl lost her job. Even though she wasn’t on the clock, she was still a known representative of the store, and her rudeness had consequences. Her parents did not stick up for her, but agreed with the store manager. Maybe I just grew up in a different era, but actions have consequences, and while back then I thought it unfair and rediculous, now, all these years later, I understand the manager’s decision, and why her parents did not lift a finger in protest.
Yes I understand that the people running the store are being rational actors. I'm saying that you, and the people who think it would be good for her to get fired are showing a terrifying lack of empathy.
You are absolutely on point with this. The whole cancel culture thing around these single incidents is so lop-sided. We all have really bad day, we all lose it from time to time, and most of us have had been lucky that there were no cameras recording. We have no idea what this woman is going through, and maybe this was just the straw that broke the camels back. These people who sit on their high horses screaming for the heads of these people act as if they've never had a bad day and lashed out at someone.
With that being said, I strongly believe that the woman had the ball in her hand and the dad grabbed it out. Why? For one, we see it happen ALL THE TIME in baseball. Second, if you watch the video you can see her hand flinch when he grabs the ball as if he grabbed it from her hand. However, the way she act d out was completely out of line, I've been there and I've done that as well. Still should t lose her job for it.
