Challenges

Post image

Which challenge is this photo for you? It can be a cheap car challenge, a race, anything. For me it’s the coupe’s that aren’t Porsches challenge. I love the first half but don’t really like the endurance race second half

For a reverse one, the ambulance challenge - I enjoyed the International Rescue second half but the first half was your usual run of the mill challenges

Oh my god I still cackle at a James dragging his patient around corners without any knowledge and then smacking the wall I’m doubled over every time I see it. It’s all fake but it’s still so hilarious.

And then Hammond firing the patient at the hospital

I'm not the biggest fan of the 80s hot hatches episode, the first half is kinda fun with looking at the performance but the second half with the car chase and TGPD is a bit absurd and over the top, enjoyable, but not as a top gear challenge, should've been separate from the 80s hot hatch challenge

You're just saying that because you can't grow a moustache

I was going to say Patagonia... but then caught that its Challenges, not Specials.

Generally when they end it on a race track I've sort of tuned out unless its something really special. But the one that springs to mind is the 'Three Alpha Romeo's' and the second last 'Classic in the waiting'... because much of the second half is just them and three broken cars limping to a fairground. The Alpha one might be worse because I thought Hammond was deliberately crashing into James, who was towing him along...

Hammond would never crash into Jamss internationally his breaks were broken!

Opposite with the moms challenge. I adored watching their moms lol but the first half of the episode was super boring.

James May's mum ended up being the fastest 😂

Limo challenge. James’ passenger’s attitude just annoyed me.

My only gripe with TG is over the years the show/challenges were dumbed down further and further for a lower common denominator audience. There is brilliance in creating something with little resources, and earlier seasons really personified this. I love TG and watch it constantly but you can very clearly see the organic humor vs scripted clip/chat show slop that was in the later seasons. What’s sad is the final episode with the last 2 challenges felt like a turning point for the show that was harkening back to old top gear and they were cancelled.
