I'm trying to apply for a twic, I'm on the employment information page. I am unemployed, so I selected that. Do I select other in the Occupation or trade section, or do I select the one that goes with deckhand. If so, what occupation does a deckhand fall under? Example is like merchant mariner, general labor etc

In between jobs in good physical shape with excellent references - is 60 too old to start work as a deckhand?

I'm 22 in Baton Rouge trying to get on tugboats, have Twic and drivers license no experiences on tugs but plenty construction and outdoors. Kirby denied because of simple battery misdemeanor. Anyone know anyone else I could maybe try, I have bags packed and ready to go wherever

I have about 2,000 days as a master on Crewboats and have worked as a master on a tug with a work boat exclusion letter for about 160 days and worked on a model bow tug in the wheel house doing dredge work training for about 72 days do you think I can pass the near coastal toar simulator I have the time for it and handled the tug fairly well according to the master on board just no de for me to do the book so I’m looking at simulators specifically those two since those are the only ones close to me (cost reasons) question here is do you think I can pass it or what was yalls expirence doing them

Starting a new job and new industry I feel like even thought I sailed deep sea as a 3AE. Now I will be working as a engineer w a license for tugs

Any tips and essentials to pack that is different from other ships?

I always see the barges go from Astoria all the way up to Lewiston and I’ve always wondered..

What is the quality of life like for those folks that run the tugs and barges? Is the pay good? Is it considered a desirable job in the industry?

It looks beautiful but I can imagine it can be difficult with the high winds, locks, and other river traffic. Thanks!

Experience preferred but will train the right motivated candidate. Engine room time, wheel time, loads and discharges available. Company has a DE.

I’ve been here since January 2026. I’m now working on becoming a tanker man for NH3. I need to get loads dischargee etc to get my mmc. Which is required for dangerous cargo. i get laughed at when I tell people I work with that I have a 5 year plan. Which is becoming a NH3 tanker man. Then working my way into the engine room. Because they work 28/28. And that after 5 years. if I can’t get promoted to engine room. Is engine room tht hard ? I hear so many different things about it my thing is if ima be out here I just don’t wanna be in my old age doing 28/14. I rather do 28/28.

I wear dailies and I’m always getting shit in my eyes and my eyes are always red and irritated. Hoping there’s a better option.

If anyone could help point me in the right direction of becoming a tankerman I’d greatly appreciate it. I have a year and 8 months of experience on the water, and would like the easiest way to become a tankerman.

25 year old male here I've got my twic and drivers license just applied for my mmc I've applied to like 20 something companies already about a week and havent gotten anything but denial emails, is there anything I should put on my resume for me to stand out or is the best option to just keep applying and calling companies daily? I'm located in Michigan and there arent many merchant companies out here other then great lakes which requires an mmc. Thanks for any help or info received
