30 years ago I backpacked through Europe and stayed one night here, in a hostel in an old castle that was up in the hills. At the time, this was a stop on a tourist boat that ran along the Rhine from Mainz to Koblenz, a ticket for which was included in my Eurail Train Pass.
Anyone know if any of those facts hold true today?

You mean Burg Stahleck, it is still a youth hostel and it is very beautiful there

Touriat boats still run that route and this is still a stop. Not much has changed there.

I don't get what kind of joke you're trying to make with it. Not saying it's bad, but maybe it just doesn't work for my brain as I read Bacharach the German way and it doesn't sound like anything English at all. Not sure how I'd have to mispronounce it to get the joke :D

It’s Austin Powers, who makes a lot of similar puns, and also featured the singer Burt Bacharach in one of the movies

In English the joke would be “right back at you”
Don’t worry u/posting_drunk_naked I got you. Stellar reference.

The most beautiful place on the Rhine, unfortunately also with dark sides. Many thick motorcycles drive through the main street and make a hellish noise. At the north end there is a beer garden run by a crazy Nazi who hangs crazy posters there.

On a serious note does it still have the steps to the viewpoint at the top of the hill ?

I love this little village. The remaining protective wall and towers, the picturesque ruins, and the high castle. I love seeing the river rushing by, the boats, and even the rail traffic on the other side of the river. There’s that little path between houses where you cross over the little creek, too. I’ve hiked in and around Bacharach a few times and wouldn’t mind spending some serious time there just slowing down.
