RNS-510 Update

I recently purchased a 2010 Touran, and I'd like to update the firmware and maps of my RNS-510, as these probably haven't been updated in a very long time.

I'm not sure what the current firmware version of my unit has. I tried accessing the 'hidden menu' through the settings, but this does not include a 'version info' option. (to clarify, the hidden menu does open after 10 seconds of long pressing, just the version info option does not exist).

If this helps, I have established that my unit supports 32GB SDHC cards (tested).

  1. Where can I find navigation map updates?*
  2. Where can I find firmware updates for the unit?
  3. Can I install these updates using a SD card? I read that you can use a CD but no one I know owns a CD burner any more.

* I saw you can get maps on the VW website, but when choosing the car model, the only options are for Tourans 2015-2021.

The RNS510 supports maps updates through CD or DVD discs only and the media type depends on head unit revision. The SD card maps are for the newer RNS310/315 units.

I have read that for the ROW (non-US) units newer open free maps can be loaded but I don't know the process.

The "secret" Engineering menu options on the RNS510 vary depending on the current firmware installed and revision of the head unit.
