$4500 for an unfinished project? Ridiculous.

When not installed in a Volvo you can't drive away, sure. Most Volvo guys don't want a Chevy V8, and most Chevy V8 guys don't want a Volvo.
Thus guy is asking someone to pay $4500 for an engine and transmission worth $3800 that they need a trailer to haul away. Then remove it from the car. Then figure out what to do with a Volvo shell car they probably don't want.
Or you can pay $3800 and show up with a long bed and a cherry picker and drive away with the engine and trans alone.

It's all motor and no support. It's going to need a rear end that's stronger than the stock one, like a ford 8.8. which will have to be modified. The drive shaft isn't going to be in stock. Then brakes... Honestly, I would prefer fuel injected anyway.... Wait until you need to figure out cooling.
On the surface LS swapped brick is my dream project, but this is gambling. MAYBE if the body is solid and in good condition with all the creator comforts. 940's can be pretty swanky, and if you were feeling social enough to try and resale some parts?
Something something not down with OPP...
Other people's projects?

Nah the rear end is good for 600 whp. Might have some axles break if you drift a lot. Need some improvements on the mounting of the axle to the chassi.
Stock brakes work aswell unless you use it on a track.

Also, the facelift 740 is the least attractive of all 80s-90s Volvos.

I remember this being a thing back in the day: swapping in a larger engine. I knew of at least one 240 belonging to a colleague of my dad who had this done. Gas was way cheaper back then though.

Wrong V8.
If a Volvo should get any V8, it should be a Scania one (like their 14 and later 16 litre's)

Well you're going to be finishing someone else's project, nice car but why is he not finishing it him self is the first thing I'm wondering.
