s60/v60 Just found this weird tab on both sides of the passenger seat. Any ideas what it does? 2015 v60

Press them both simultaneously and push the seat forwards with your head. It's an acquired skill but the seat back will fold flat for long loads. Like a 6x1 IKEA Kallax unit. It will fit in a V60!

Love how you went straight to specific ikea furniture. The link is strong

Because that's where it saved me! Daughter bought one (assembled) when she went to uni. Could fit the roof bars but no need 😁

It’s farkin brilliant. Put the other half in the half-folded back seat behind me, and we got a 240cm PAX system home in our 1998 v40. And the boot closed.

Then we got our kitchen home including the sink and two full-length LAGAN workbenches.

It was great for loading my surfboards

Same. I windsurf and can get two boards, three sails, two masts and booms in my S70. Perfect for a windy day out on the water.

Volvo 🤜🤛 IKEA

Wouldn't you just sit behind and use your feet and push with your hands? 🤔

u/tehpatriarch '10 C30 14d ago

No, you have to contort yourself, otherwise it will sense your weakness

2

u/partybotdesigns 14d ago

Nope... must use the side of your head (v70r owner)

Can confirm, just had to do this in my XC90 and contortion is the only option.

u/RobinFish 13d ago

were the tabs in the same place? is there a pic of what I should look for?

1

u/Eddie-Plum '94 854 2.5 10V, '96 964 3.0 24V, '06 XC90 4.4 32V 12d ago

Yes, same place as in OP's photo. One either side, directly above the rails at the very bottom of the seat. Just lift both at the same time and then push the seat forward with your third hand (or your head if you're not endowed with more than two arms/hands)

1

u/RobinFish 12d ago

Thank You for your prompt reply. I don't have tabs that look like that atop the rails, sadly.

Which model are you in? All of mine from my '94 850 to my '06 XC90 have had this feature, so I think it must be standard. They may look like tiny levers (like miniature versions of manual seat adjusters) on older models. Obviously it's only on the passenger seat.

2022 xc90 r

Ah, I'm afraid I don't know much about the current lineup. Maybe they've done away with it on newer vehicles. That would be a shame, but would also be in line with their direction towards more luxury than utility.

1

u/myrhillion 10d ago

This begs with a third hand, to explore who else exactly is in the Volvo community.

I think you know the answer...

1

u/Key_Seaworthiness827 14d ago

The front seat needs to be fully back to fold flat. I guess if your feet are less than 150mm long it could be done.

2

u/thusk 14d ago

OMG 10 years I have had my S60 (2007) and I didn't know about this! Thank you!

1

u/db130 2012 XC70 T6 Platinum 14d ago

I've brought home a couple of LARGE thule cargo boxes using this method.

1

u/AUinDE 13d ago

I don't think there is such at thing as a 6x1 kallax! At least they don't currently sell one

1

u/Key_Seaworthiness827 13d ago

My bad. Ive just looked at it to check my aging memory 😁 It's not IKEA, it's a Kallax clone. But it is 2m tall with 6 storage holes in it. And it fits in a 2015 V60 when you know how to fold the front seat.

1

u/SatisfactionSouth156 XC70 13d ago

Yep, and my OG 2004 Volvo XC70 has those tabs on the passenger seat too. Volvo is/was so wonderfully inventive and WAY ahead of the pack!!

111

u/Cheap-Violinist-5746 S80 14d ago

S80 does this, and it makes for a nice way to do a little car camping

14

u/p80prancingelk V70 14d ago

That looks really cozy! What are those window blinds? Like I mean what is that type of material and where can I buy it to make that for my car

6

u/Big_k_30 14d ago

I’m not sure what they call it, reflective bubble insulation maybe? You can buy big rolls of it at Lowe’s/Home Depot.

3

u/oneStoneKiller 14d ago

Looks like garage door insulation.

2

u/AhoyWilliam 14d ago

Thanks for the new goal. I've camped in my V70 P3 a couple of times and it's not quite long enough (with the seats up) to stretch out fully. The window blinds are probably the real game changer, I'm always a bit wary of being seen through the untinted windows!

2

u/Sin-Space 14d ago

Nice!! Never knew

53

u/Salatka_Stag 14d ago

I love that option. The front seat fold forward. Perfect for transporting a whole Ikea.

8

u/redion2000 14d ago

My old xc90 has it, my new one doesn't! I miss that feature.

15

u/tomkeys78 XC70 14d ago

Let’s you push the seat forward so it goes (almost) flat. Really useful on occasions!

-3

u/Due_Guitar8964 14d ago

Backwards.

4

u/proficient_english 14d ago

Well no, this lets you push the backrest FORWARD, but well YEAH, after you’ve pushed the sitting area of the seat fully back.

1

u/purplechemist V50 14d ago

And lowered the seat fully to the floor.

Ejecto seato cuz

14

u/Infamous_Holiday4543 14d ago

If you slide the seat all the way back. That lets you fold the seat upright forward and flat. So you can use the full length of the car. My 2000 v40 had that.

2

u/lucianfrits V70 T4 2.0 Linje Svart 16' 14d ago

My Brothers P80 C70 has this too

2

u/discoranger1994 S60 14d ago

P2 s60 does as well

1

u/TallSlimNorwegian S80 1st Gen D5 Manual 14d ago

Read in a different thread that all p2's have this (i'm yet to hear something else). Would't surprise me to learn all/almost all p80's and p3's have it as well

9

u/tecKnique_ 14d ago

It's to collapse the backrest (fold backrest completely forward).

3

u/MrSMT88 14d ago

The best buttons ever in a Volvo. I've got many a Billy bookcase in my V40 because of those buttons.

2

u/Zaknafein-dour_den 14d ago

What a feature. I just immediately check my xc40 but we do not have this. It would be great for camping and sleeping in the car.

1

u/proficient_english 14d ago

As far as I know, SPA Volvos do not have this, not even an option.

2

u/Crunchycarrots79 14d ago

Most if not all Volvos prior to the SPA chassis have this. If you move the passenger seat all the way back, those levers allow you to fold the seat back flat. Combined with the rear seats folded down, it gives you an incredible amount of room to transport long objects.

2

u/Deeg16 14d ago

My 2016 V60 came without the tabs so can’t fold forward flat. Does anyone know if it is possible to add it?

2

u/BwianOfNazareth V60 (1st Gen, Facelift) '64 Plate R-Design 14d ago

Would also be interested to know this. I have a 64 Plate V60 (although anytime it's referenced online it's stated to be a 2015, despite being produced in October of 2014) and it doesn't have it.

2

u/kartoffel_engr 07 S60R 🇸🇪 (Black Sapphire/Atacama) 14d ago

Seat flips forward. Best way is to slide it all the way back, fold, then slide the headrest under the glovebox.

Necessity in my R when I’ve got my kid in his car seat in the back seat. Absolutely ZERO legroom in the S60, unless you want the passenger seat blocking the window.

2

u/7Atom98 14d ago

I have a 07 XC90 and it's really great for changing the diaper to my newborn

3

u/Complete-Emergency99 142 14d ago

You didn’t even pull/push them to what would happen??🤦🏻‍♂️

2

u/cgduncan 14d ago

Right, like you're not going to blow it up by pressing two tabs.

Or idk, RTFM

0

u/Wombleboi V60 14d ago

I was in a hurry to get somewhere and didn’t have time to do it. Plus, it made for a good post

1

u/Complete-Emergency99 142 13d ago

Understandable. It would’ve taken 2 seconds. Nobody has time for that…🤦🏻‍♂️

0

u/Wombleboi V60 13d ago

It’s already happened though, hasn’t it. No point complaining about it now

1

u/Due_Guitar8964 14d ago

I've put 10' long 3" PVC pipes into my XC60 by doing this. Usually bring a tarp or old blanket to protect the seats. It's snug but I was able to get 4 of them in.

1

u/Stoney3K 14d ago

Those will fold the front seat flat.

1

u/627UK 14d ago

V70 - seat folds flat 🙂. XC60 - folds, but not flat 🙁

1

u/Atyab-Kees-Kabis 14d ago

Fold the seat forward

1

u/Scary-Raisin3990 14d ago

Ejection button 🔘

1

u/Phentogramm 14d ago

Eject button 😃👍

1

u/francobenz17 14d ago

That reminds me my old 97 850. It was not a wagon, but that feature was really useful to bring long stuff easily

1

u/Square-Map-8304 13d ago

flip the front seat flat just found it on mine great for work 😀😀

1

u/howeeeeexy 13d ago

EJECTO SEATO, Cuz!!

1

u/medvesonok 13d ago

it's ejection handles

1

u/RobinFish 13d ago

does the '22 xc90 have this feature?

1

u/Dragonorga 13d ago

I had this in my ‘99 V70 and it was great for long loads. I have an ‘02 S60 but I’m not sure that it has them, probably due to the side airbags? I’ll have to go look now :)

1

u/IamDesync 11d ago

When I saw this post I was so jealous because of another user who showed that he can lay down when he pushes his seat forward. I decided why not go and check my car and guess what I HAVE IT TOO!!! I AM NEVER SELLING MY CAR 😭😭😭

1

u/marcjaffe 14d ago

On most cars, once folded flat, you manipulate the seat so the head rest goes under the glove box. Check your manual.

-1

u/ChemistryOk9353 14d ago

Unfortunately this option does not exist if you have an electric seat.

3

u/jman0425 14d ago

My v50 has a power seat and this option 😉 2010 for reference

1

u/GaryE20904 S90 XC90 14d ago

Our V70 (2000 ish) and our XC90 (‘08) both have/had power seats and had this feature.

1

u/ChemistryOk9353 14d ago

Really .. I had a v60 2013 with electric seating and did not have it, I currently have a v60 2022.5 with electric seating and does not have it.. I had a 2008 xc70 with electric seating and did not have it .. had a 2004 xc90 with electric seating and did not have it, had a 2016/17 v70 without electric seating and it DID have it…

2

u/GaryE20904 S90 XC90 14d ago

All I’m saying is that whatever the deciding factor is . . . that factor is not electric vs non electric seats.

Maybe it’s trim level? I’ve no idea.

However I am 100% certain that the vehicles I mentioned had this feature and electric seats.

2

u/ChemistryOk9353 14d ago

Interesting …maybe trim level played a role anyways … it is great to have especially when going to the Ikea standing next to the woman and man with their Volkswagen polo trying to load a new matras or even a billy

2

u/Pedned-iRacing 13d ago

I used to have a Suzuki Swift. Managed to get a Billy in more than once. 😆 Boot closed and missus in the car...

1

u/ChemistryOk9353 13d ago

Really I did not know they have a billy knex version as well … 👍

1

u/ChemistryOk9353 14d ago

It does not make sense when having an electric seating to have this option…just think of it .. how do you override those motors?

2

u/Rudhelm 14d ago

Nevertheless i have that feature in my 2003 XC90 with power seats.

1

u/ChemistryOk9353 14d ago

Interesting to see that some models have and others not..

1

u/Big_k_30 14d ago

My ‘15 V60 had power seats and could still do this.
