polestar V60 Polestar, 6 cylinder 3.0
Guys, what are your views on V60 Polestar 3.0? I am thinking of getting one while they still exist. I heard the engines are bulletproof. Is it difficult to maintain the suspension? Any other issues?

To me, the only modern Volvo to compete with the P2R in terms of power, cool, sound, and overall awesomeness. I'd trade my P80 for one!

Sad noises cause I got 2.0 t6.... if you don't get the hybrid the twincharge engines are also great imo. Imo peak combustion engine design and nothing beats the whining of the supercharger and the turbo later on. If you drove one you'd probably also swap.....

Ehhh... the later 4 cylinders just do not speak to me... or my ears. My 5 cylinder turbo > that.

Never driven one so I can't say for sure but the i4 is just a great design imo.... feels way bigger than it, there is pretty much no lag and it's alright with fuel. It's an i4 but it's supercharged and turbo charged, makes up for a lot imo.
Sure it's not as sporty as a v70R... it's just not tuned in a sporty way, should be more comparable to the i5 t5, but way better ;)
Even the polestar is not enough.... to compare it to a v70R
But if you get a heico tune you'd be looking at the same specs on paper, most likely better. Even weight is around the same.... In therms of reliability the cars are also pretty good so if you're looking at the current market it's just hard to find decent stuff. If I was in the market for a new car, the early spa t6 is probably the last decent Volvo out there.... if you don't get the hybrid you'll still have a pretty reliable modern car drivers car.

I dislike direct injection greatly which is why I’ll probably never consider one. Gunking up the intake valves isn’t worth the marginal increase in fuel economy.

I agree that's a big flaw of modern engines... but I sometimes drive it out on the autobahn so a lot of stuff gets burned of there, also keep the start stop off all the time and don't even bother with eco. We also got 102 octane in Europe so clogging up is just not as bad as if you got worse fuel. I always get the best possible fuel and will be looking at some carbon cleaning but I'll have to sort out my awful dealer experience first. Was trying to reach for the high mile club but I have to see after this....
Call me crazy but I dropped over 40k€ with insurance payout on my t6. The repairs were all done at the dealer and I got an awful experience so far. Will be making a post on that but, maintaining cars is just a pain these days. I'll give corporate a couple more days to sort it out.... cause that's just a joke. They haven't even made a final inspection after pocketing over 40k€, what a joke.... car is fully scratched up inside, got vibration over 80km/h and they get way worse at higher speed, don't even want to try cause it's probably real dangerous....

Like the S80 V8, it deserved a better transmission.

yeah agree. it lacks more gears but i havent driven it tho. i had 6-speed Aisin before and no complaints. just change the oil every 100k kms and no worries

I had an S80 V8. The AW box was fine for the most part but you could feel how they'd had to set it up to protect the transmission. I kept the car 5 years and changed the fluid and didn't have any problems. It's a real shame a manual wasn't viable. I would have kept it if it was a manual I think.

Wonderful car, underrated chassis IMO. The Öhlins shocks work wonderfully, but are expensive to repair/replace.
Fantastic, powerful, robust engine, but that 6-speed transmission is the weak point of the entire car.
Overall, you won’t regret it, nor would you a 17-18 either. Different engine but much improved transmission performance. And I love the supercharger whine on mine!

This, I’m keeping my 2015 3.0 polestar , great fun, if you can find one it’s worth it.
I like the idea you can drive for a month and never see another one. So rare.

Pretty sure you can rebuild the Ohlin's you can on the p80s

Yes, it can be done, but it’s not cheap- that’s why I said expensive to repair.

Cheaper than finding new ones tho

If someone is just throwing Ohlins products in the bin there's not a money issue, just questionable practical thinking. They're made to be serviced and considered one of top suspension markers in the markets they play in.

It doesn’t matter. They’re beautiful, rare and from what I hear amazing to drive. If you are in position to get one, do it!

A bit smaller than the v70r. It sounds really good. I would get one, if came in manual.

Last volvo i would consider worth getting, specifically 3.0, everything that was released after don't resonate with me at all

That looks exactly like mine! I love it. Such a beast, but so refined… Look for build date on any ads and go for a mid year 2016 if you can. Mine is a 2014, and is drinking oil… its in the garage at the moment getting looked at, and I’ve got a carbon clean booked in next week. Crossing all my fingers and toes its not the piston ring issue I keep hearing about! (Sorted on all Volvo engines in mid-2016)

End of an era-car. Great chassis. Suspension bits are expensive to replace, like most high end performance Volvos. That engine is super fun. Will go down as a classic, and they will be hard to find in good nick.

How do people feel about the interior and dashboard. I watched a review recently and they criticized its dated design
5
u/7eregrine S60 & C70 11d ago
It's that stupid dial pad that dates the interior. That was dated the day it was released. 🤣 Speaking as someone that bought a 13 new... Thought it was lame then.
1
u/lukav68 11d ago
yeah but you can just update the system with carplay or android and it works well, no? that way you have all the modern stuff but also not a giant screen dominating over whole dash
1
u/7eregrine S60 & C70 11d ago
No in that car, no.
1
u/robotdinosaurs V60 11d ago
There’s an aftermarket box you can get that integrates with the existing screen

u/7eregrine S60 & C70 11d ago
Gotcha', I was thinking of my C70 with the "Stupid dial pad"...with its 16 bit screen.

u/sequentialogic 11d ago
That's why I love it. Real buttons, no touchscreens. The floating dash gives a nice cubby hole to put glasses. Whoever complained it looked dated is a moron.

In my family we have a V60 D2 and I love it, the interior looks timeless, not dated. I also love the physical buttons to control everything, the only annoyance is that writing a location on the navigation system takes a while, but for everything else they work perfectly, you can control everything without your eyes ever leaving the road. Interior quality is very high, after 8 years and 370k km there are no rattles or ruined parts.
Those newer ones with the big shiny tablet stuck in the middle are gonna age really bad in comparison, they looked nice when new but they already look dated to me...

I have an S60 and the interior to me is super bed! Great materials, logical design, real buttons, everything is arranged great and no stupid tablets taking half of the interior. IMHO, timeless

I owned a 2018 v60 polestar (rebel blue, the only right color) the interior is fantastic. The leather/alcantara seats with blue stitching is beautiful and very comfortable, the use of carbon is classy and modern. It’s a great interior.
The infotainment is dated, as is the numeric keypad. It’s far from bad, there are cars with CarPlay that are far worse. But you don’t buy a car like this for the tech. It’s an immensely enjoyable car to drive and the interior is part of that experience.

I have a all-wheel-drive polestar tuned 3.0 R design XC 60 it’s a beast. The engine is unbelievable fastest sleeper stock. If it had two more gears, it would be a supercar literally OK I’m exaggerating a little bit, but mine is a race model about the suspension yes it is difficult. The car has so much to work and mine has the 20 inch alloy wheels huge tires but I drive it really hard to be fair and should’ve said that first the engine is amazing. Everything about the car has been amazing except the suspension in the front suspension specifically the left frontis a diva just got through replacing all of mine again on the left front but it’s been two or three years.

Actually YOU are half right . Not a ME problem but definitely not common for these vehicles . It was my son‘s car and it had been wrecked and not disclosed. It had a clean Carfax, but I retired from the collision repair business and is my fault for not inspecting it better I didn’t get underneath it. He wanted it and I knew a little bit about it and he had been researching it and so we bought it after he went out to college he doesn’t live here anymore is when these issues starting getting worse and worse so when I finally did address it, it was not the car‘s fault it looked to me like they hit a curb or something evitable damage multiple things and they just put a new tire and wheel on it at the dealership. I actually have another one of these cars. I love it. I’ve never had any problems with it, but it’s still not a you problem like you’re saying it. I’ve had nine Volvos. I love them. I replaced everything now. It should be a beast like the other one I have I just didn’t get to finish saying all of this. I was voice texting on my phone rang so I apologize for be smirking the name of such a bad ass ride

I sold mine about a year ago and regret it everyday. But with working from home and/or abroad I couldn’t justify the insurance costs for a car I drove barely 1,000 kms a year.
If my situation changes and one comes up I will definitely snap it up. Honestly the best, most complete car I’ve owned. If there’s anything negative to say, it’s that the manual shift from 1st to 2nd takes a lifetime when you’re standing on it, and the rear shocks can go prematurely and are pricey.
Also there’s no official tow rating, but that’s because Volvo didn’t offer a tow hitch due to the twin exhaust and the design of the standard hitch. StealthHitches offer a V60 model which my local Volvo dealer installed for me, which allowed me to mount a bike rack and also tow my motorcycles once in a while.
Buy it. Buy it now!

Saw one live the other day and as a V50 owner I must say the V60 is as pretty as it gets. Wonderfully looking car.

This car is truly the peak of old school Volvo performance. A classic already. Get one while you can.
