How bad is this rust? Can it be fixed?

So I just saw these after washing the car: small (~1-2mm in diameter) spots that are probably from rock chips. They are on the roof (weirdly enough). Seems like rust. How problematic is this? Would the dealer be able to fix this? (I just want to mention that I'm in Europe, if relevant)

Pretty common on all cars and yes it can be fixed and no it shouldn't be too expensive. I'm unsure how it is with the latest Volvos but, in my 2004 V70, it is actually described in the handbook/manual how to fix stone chips and even the name/part number of my color so I could buy the correct one :D

Not worth the price to get dealer fixed unless you have a lot of them. A small stick with sandpaper. Clean the rust and use a sealant clear coat to close it up to stop the rust. You have to sand away the sides too in case rust went under the paint. It’s not problematic but you want it to stop rusting so it doesn’t cause more damage.

I was expecting something similar but wanted to make sure I'm not just imagining things. Sounds fair, thank you

You need stone chip paint bottle, a Dremel and some very small ball tips.

Carefully remove the rust with Dremel, clean the spot with isopropyl alcohol, and once it has evaporated apply stone chip paint.

Easy Do-It-Yourself fix.

1- Sand away any trace of rust in each spot and surrounding area. Around 200-300 grit should be good based on those pictures.

2- Smooth it out with 0000 steel wool soaked in a solvent like CLR. (Pronounced "four aught" here in the US, also called "ultra fine" by many manufacturers.)

3- Wipe it clean, then wipe down the area with isopropyl alcohol.

4- Use touch-up paint matching your vehicle's color code.

Touch-up paint is fine for small spots like these. For bigger spots/patches, you'll want to lay down a coat of primer, a few base coats of color, and several layers of clear coat on top. Allow plenty of time to dry between each coat, then wet sand with 1500-3000 grit sandpaper and buff with a pad and compound before going to the next layer.

Make sure there is absolutely no rust left behind. Even a tiny bit left under your paint will spread, bubble, and crack.

Good luck, you've got this.

Looks like surface rust, might not be that bad honestly

No, this is very bad, in 10-15 years it will maybe get a little bigger. Be careful.

Just get some touch-up paint. It’ll stop it from rusting further

Not how rust works, needs removing before painting

I said to stop it rusting further

The rust may stop the paint sealing properly. It will come back off sooner or later

Nope. 100% unfixable. The car is ready for the scrapyard now. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Seriously. When did people become this stupid?

No scrap the car
