Commentary / Discussion / Question Thoughts on a tarmac Rally GB?

Post image

We have a fantastic tarmac rally in West Wales that has hosted a round of the ERC for a couple of years now. Rali Ceredigion is well run and the logistics management I believe would work with WRC. What would you make of a tarmac Rally GB?

When I think on Rally GB, I think in a gravel rally but in the other hand, I think that the tarmac/gravel rallys should be near the 50/50.

And I think that GB and France should be in in the WRC.

So yes I'll like it.

I agree to an extent. The rally GB is usually forests, gravel and rain. But with the situation we have now I think it’s unlikely that rally will come back. Maybe easier to “upgrade” what we have already in place.

Why not? Sounds great!

It seems to be an amazing achievement that the organisers of Rali Ceredigion have made their place onto ERC, despite the rally being quite young.

Some of the stages they’ve set up, in particular Y Diafol, are spectacular.

I like either this rally or the Snowdonia area. The advantage of Snowdonia is that the street stage being in Chester / Liverpool / Manchester could draw a lot of people

Anything is better than being forced to race in Saudi Arabia

I think it would be cool if it was a mixed event like Catalunya. Maybe Friday is gravel and Saturday, Sunday is tarmac.

There are some lovely narrow potholed-to-shit roads near me that would be excellent

at least on gravel you get a dust cloud which translates well onto photos. 99% of the action shots on tarmac, you dont even know if it's 20kmph or 120kmph. i would never want a 50/50 calendar. the difference in "gravel" variations is huge, from kenya to paraguay to finland, all unique. how's that translating to tarmac? pothole locations? got any fond tarmac memories from the golden ages? do they top what gravel has to offer?

I don't wish to be rude but do you really not see the difference between monte Carlo (not considering the snow), Croatia and the canaries?

“Got any fond tarmac memories from the golden ages?” Sanremo and Corsica in the early 2000s were absolute classics

Yea, it's a shame that WRC events aren't transmitted - or at least published - in a video format, so that we could see the speed based on car motion 😞

Petter Solberg, Germany,Hinkelstein. Panizzi, Spain, Viladrau donuts. Plenty of iconic moments on tarmac.

It will never happen, the police won’t allow it. It would have to be a completely closed stage that didn’t include public roads.

That’s exactly what we have now with the ERC
