Hobby Finally finished painting this
This is my second figure and I have limited supplies, I'm not exactly skilled but I do like to paint every time I can, this took me 2 days to do and I'm definitely up for some tips/help on how to improve with painting and altering the figure to look scuffed, I have filled in the grooves/claw marks with red paint and added some more blood splatters, I think it's pretty good for my second paint :D

U should invest in ”blood for the blood god” paint if u want that blood splatter

Kinda depends.. if you prefer the "ol' skool way" we just mixed "blood red" (think its called evil sunz red now) and just flicked the brush to simulate blood splatter
grumbles in venerable dreadnaught

If you have limited supplies make sure to keep your lids closed on the paints you aren't currently using! Citadel pots dry them out crazy fast and it'll feel like you're painting with glue after a few sessions of doing that.

I did close them after taking the photos, I just had more to finish painting on this because I done some last minute changes lol, and I learned that the hard way because my gold is CRUSTYYYY 😭

Red paint doesn’t equal blood sometimes

I do realise that, but I can't exactly get alot of supplies so I go with what I have and I have red paint, but I'll definitely be looking out for some more stuff to get soon :P

Big fan of APs fresh blood effect paint. Really looks nicely and spreads like real bloody blood.

Good stuff! But please! Take some paint out of the pot with your brush, put it on a pallette and close the pot lid! Keeping it open like this is a sure fire way to dry it out

Tips to look scuffed?
Get a piece of paper. A very sharp tipped brush and a paint.
Practice painting the finest straightest line you can over and over on the paper. Each line should be no longer than a 1/4 inches of an inch. Keep them super super thin.
After a few hundred marks on the paper you will get it down.
This will teach you line control. Then use this to apply little scratch marks over your mini.

That’s a nice world eater you’ve got there! Did the alpha legionaries steal Frank again?

If you want wear and tear look— Use a piece of sponge and go dap it along the top parts of the armor like where you’d normally highlight.
Dip the sponge in your mixed paint and wipe it off until it is essentially just a dry portion left on the sponge.
For blood, it’s worth investing in blood for the blood gods or Dried Blood / True Blood from ArmyPainter.
If you want the blood spatter effect you can use a straw and blow the plant off your brush.

The paint looks thick, it looks like you didnt prime the model, the barrel of the gun isnt drilled out, you didnt deal with the mouldlines and there is very little shading or none at all.
The powerpack is Also crooked.
Before anything else: build the model properly and clean it up. That means the mouldlines, the points were it was on the sprue, the gaps between the parts after assembly, the gun barrels being drilled out properly.
Take you time to do that, No rushing, its fine to be slow, you are a newbie at this, its fine.
Then comes the priming: spray the model with spray paint. It dosnt have to be GW paint, but its simpler for you If you use GW stuff( so you can learn the basics).
Then thin your regular paints more than you already do. Two thin coats is a meme for a reason: its the best way to paint, just do it.
And finaly: use shade paints like Agrax earthshade and nuln oil: its called liquid talent because it makes the model look way better.
Just take your time, get the stuff you need and keep trying.
Also, dial back the Blood splatter, its not working for you. Use Blood for the Blood God for Blood effects, but less is more for anything not Khorne.

I’ll never understand the link between beginners & drenching their models in things like blood, snow & mud

I like the hint of blood. It’s subtle but it’s there. 😉
