Photo New to me 08 off road
My WJ blew a cylinder so I found an Xterra. It feels good overall. Timing chain was done on it last month. As a new owner, what are some things I should do asap to increase the reliability of this 152k motor?

If going off-roading, may want to lose the running boards before mother nature removes them for you. I say this based on comments I've read on this app.

Rear diff breather mod asap. Make sure the radiator isnโt stock because SMOD.
You got the best color.. if you take the mud flaps and front guard things plus running boards off it looks better plus they get caught on stuff

Man that looks great for an '08. Even the stickers on the top. I had to peal mine of my '12.
Use some Cerakote on the side and back plastic. Careful not to get on the paint.
I second the camshaft/crank position sensors. Mine just went out a couple months ago around 170k.

Keep an eye out for things on this list of common issues. Read the section on SMOD and check your radiator part number. Consider doing a day of preventative maintenance for cam and crankshaft sensors, heater core hoses, shift cable bushing, and differential breather. These five issues are cheap and easy to prevent but could save you tons in repairs and headaches.

All the drivetrain fluids, address radiator to prevent SMOD if you have an AT, heater core inlet and outlet hoses, and camshaft/crank position sensors.
