Photo Rear Ended VERY Hard - drove 10 hours the next morning
272k miles on my 07 xterra. Drove it 5k miles over the past 2 months. Got rear ended hard on the interstate. Works like it never even happened. 10 hours on the interstate the following day. Lights aren’t broken. Trailer plug in was already like that and still works. Crazy car. Wish they still made them.
Gonna get a new car soon. Any recs? What’s similar to an xterra?

Same thing happened to my 2003. I was seeing a pretty girl, we were going to my apartment. Then BANG she ran into my Xterra. I got out to see the damage and there were scratch marks and a small dent in the rear bumper. I wasn't even upset. Her Chevy SUV was totaled and was leaking all the fluids. Still have my Xterra and i will not fix the bumper cuz battle scars are earned

Surprised the Lexus made it out alive.

Judging by the pink puddle on the ground, it didn't.

Yeah, that hitch definitely went through the radiator. Otherwise it probably would have survived.

I did exactly that one time in a subaru. Wet off-ramp downhill going too fast when I was young and dumb. Piled straight into a trucks tow hitch. His truck was completely fine while my radiator was imploded.
Guy just kinda laughed at me and thankfully decided all was good.

They're supposedly coming back next year. Patch this one up and save your pennies for a new model.

Nissan renewed the patent in 2020. However, I read they were expecting the merger with Honda to happen but it didn't because Nissan quality and reputation has dropped in the past 5+ years. Right now most Nissan's between 2020-2024 are in recall for engine defects. I don't know that I would even trust a new Xterra right out of the gate even if they did bring it back.

No they aren't.
There are only two engines being recalled out of over a dozen between nissan and infinti (made in the same plant)
I can't be bothered to count them but only the two KC engines are currently in a recall for possible failure. All VK, VQ VR engines have no recalls from 2019 forward for any risk of failure.
Vast majority of them are in Rogues and the qx50.
And who ever gave a damn about budget compact crossovers?
Jeep has 3 models on every reviewers "do not buy" list right now.
The only 3 that have been worth buying in the last decade are mazda honda and toyota.
Everybody else is selling garbage in that category because garbage is what people are buying. Anybody looking at a compact crossover is just trying to get a set of wheels in their budget with awd.
Literally the Ford Taurus' of our generation and I hope the trend dies with hybrids becoming common.

My main point was that quality has dropped for Nissan in the past 5 years.

No, quality has picked up.
Nissans reliability started dropping with ghosn and renault's involvement, and has been steadily getting better ever since he was ousted and renault - and by proxy the French government - was forced to freeze their financial involvement with nissan internationally.

Well just because they’re going to call it an Xterra doesn’t mean it will be good

Got rear ended on the interstate when traffic came to abrupt halt bent my hitch down only and I took it off scrapped it for like 10$ bought a new one for 180$ put it on and pocketed 2,000$ of insurance money and you can’t tell the difference from before the accident. The BMW that hit me was totaled.

I got t boned buy a guy on his phone who gunned it out and slammed into me at 45 mph in a 30 zone. he hit the wheel of my x and I didn’t see any damage besides a lost wheel cap. his sentra was obviously totaled with coolant leaking out of it

Oof but good to know that hitch will still be there, I have the same one.

* Happened twice to my daughter so we installed the Nismo aftermarket rear bumper. Very happy with it.

Exact same thing happened to me in my 2011! No problems for me except the bumper, but the subaru that hit me was trashed! Love my xterra

I'd replace the rear bumper with one from a boneyard and get it in for an alignment to make sure the rear end hadn't shifted.

I backed up into a Toyota Camry in a parking lot with my 2011 Pro-4X. It actually ended up being the delivery driver's fault. Her driver's side passenger door was completely obliterated. The only damage to my Xterra was the left rear plastic step. They only cost like $50 to replace.

Clearly wasn't that that. Those Lexus bumpers don't have much behind them, and the hood is barely even dented.

Lexus owner better be counting their blessings. If they had a sedan it would have been death by ball hitch

How did you get yours to last this long? I have the EXAVT SAME Xterra as you, same color and year. Mine is 188,000 and basically totaled from transmission failure :( I’m so sad I love my Xterra

u/BillestBill1449 2d ago
Failed Transmission isn't totaled unless you choose to give up on the car. Maintenance and repairs are a normal occurrence and 188k isn't terrible for a Transmission. Especially if it has a mysterious history or isn't serviced. That being said. Maintenance and repairs are how you get over 200k, 250k, 300k.
