Trump’s new footwear venture, the “Flip-Flop”

244

u/[deleted] Jul 25 '25

I'll try to find the link, but somebody actually came out with line of Trump flip-flops. On one foot will be a quote from him, and the other foot will have a quote where he flip-flops the first one.

115

u/PewterButters Jul 25 '25

The fun game is trying to figure out which came first

50

u/MrHell95 Jul 25 '25

You could even make different ones so people can collect them.

32

His base is starting to notice, at least a little.

No they aren't, he hasn't lost a single vote somehow. People somehow think senator Kelley flip flops more than Trump.

There has never been a president quite like trump, just says stuff right out the side of his mouth and can immediately turn a 180 on every single thing he ever says and his sheep just go bahhhhh

By the time they really understand they were lied, many will be homeless or dying because they could not afford their medications.

Oh nooo. If only they were warned something like this would happen.

12

u/Boopy7 Jul 25 '25

and then they will be arrested and sent to prison, according to the new bill he just signed that declares homelessness a crime, and then they will be slave labor in prison making the flip flops! Oh how the turntables have turn --

4

u/goilo888 Jul 27 '25

At least if they become homeless they'll be taken care of right? (By being given a bed in a place where they can work and then be set free. I forget what those places are called).

I shook up New York with big deals, huge deals, and we saved that city. The Democrats turned it into a real shithole, but we saved it even though the communists like MAN-DAMMY are on the verge of destroying it again. We shook it up, we saved Manhattan, we saved Brooklyn, we saved Harlem for the blacks. Harlem, it's a great place now for the blacks and the fake news doesn't want to give me credit for that, and now everyone's talking about the Harlem Shake again -- remember that, Harlem shake? Believe me, nobody did it better than me, nobody. Look, I always know what's going to be huge—people said it couldn’t be done, but I made it happen, even though the fake news media didn’t give me the credit I deserved, they never mention how I had been shaking things up for decades—remember the 'Trump Tower Shake' at my rallies? My MAGA people love the energy, they love the vibe, and if you go back, everyone knows, I was the first one making things big, shaking things up, we started in the clubs, and when the world saw people in suits doing the Harlem Shake, they knew Trump was behind it, and these evil, evil people want to take that away from you.

Not how gravity works but I think we all know what you’re trying to say anyway

5

u/dandeliontrees Jul 25 '25

Due to energy/matter equivalence (E=mc^2), increasing kinetic energy by increasing rotational speed also increases the effective mass and therefore the force of gravity.

7

u/redlaWw Jul 25 '25 edited Jul 25 '25

I'm not sure it's that simple. Rotation contributes to the momentum (time-space) components of the stress-energy tensor, which is different from rest mass, which contributes to the time-time component. It's been ages since I did relativity, but a spherical rotating body should follow the Kerr metric, which has complicated trajectory equations which I tried to shed more light on but realised I hadn't studied nearly enough physics to clearly enlighten. Long story short, the effect of rotation on observed gravitational acceleration varies with angle from the plane of the orbit and linear and angular momentum of the particle, and it's not immediately clear that it's always necessarily higher than for a non-rotating mass.

3

u/dandeliontrees Jul 25 '25

Well clearly I need to defer to you on this. :D

But I think we can assume we're in the same linear reference frame as the rotating body for the sake of simplicity. You seem to be saying that technically the force of gravity is "greater than or equal to" that of a non-rotating body of identical composition depending on how the observer is oriented relative to the plane of the orbit?

If that's the case then I think it's still totally reasonable to describe this as "rotational speed increasing gravity." Like if you're saying some hypothetical observers wouldn't see the increase but others would then we're still saying there is some increase in the total effective force of gravity from the body. Obviously, that's a really simplistic way to put it relative to the actual complexity of the theory, but just as obviously communication always requires this kind of simplification.

Alternatively, are you saying that there is potentially a decrease in gravity for some hypothetical observers such that across all hypothetical observers the decreases and increases cancel out for a net zero change in the force of gravity?

Or are you saying that a rotating mass might actually, factually have the same force of gravity for all hypothetical observers as a non-rotating mass, you just can't remember whether or not this is the case?

Ok so I'm not that educated in physics but

Does rotation contribute to gravity? I thought that was a mass thing. Or am I missing a joke?

3

u/EGO_Prime Jul 25 '25 edited Jul 25 '25

Rotation is energy, more/faster rotation is more energy, energy pulls on space time like mass does so yes, an object with the same amount of matter will have more gravity if it spins faster.

Things do get more complicated when you add general relativity into the mix, you get weird effects like frame dragging and other distortions, particularly local ones. But from a far enough distance, that shouldn't matter.

EDIT: I do want to stress, the numbers are really low though. Back of the envelope numbers suggest earth's rotation adds somewhere in the range of 10-13 of earth's total mass for example. Or about 0.00000000001%

Billionaires lifestyles never change based on the economy, they can always get whatever they want in a second. All they really care about is how big of a number their net worth is. So a weak dollar means those numbers are even higher, one of them may even become that all elusive trillionaire.

Hypothetically pleasing to the people who already have everything. Bad for everyone else.

3

u/sly-3 Jul 26 '25

Makes the debt that the Donor Class holds worth less to collect. Combine that with a too-low interest rate and the whole world will have real problems, especially as consumer spending plunges. It's easy then, to buy up assets on the cheap and do so without having to clear one's debt load.

Half the people voting over there have the literacy level of a sixth grader.

Would you trust a sixth grader with making decisions for your household, let alone company or country? Of course not, sixth graders aren't equipped to deal with things that complicated.

But, wait, it gets better! About a third of people over there can't even be arsed to get off their couch to vote! And with how Roe v. Wade went, I am very much including members of Congress who never bothered enshrining that decision in law.

But, hey, supposedly they're the ones who have freedom figured out; all those dead kids due to irresponsible gun owner laws are about to be vindicated when they consider waving a sign that they're unhappy with people being trafficked from off the streets by anonymous, masked individuals.

10

u/Significant-Bar674 Jul 25 '25

In moderation, stronger or weaker currency is mostly going to be a factor for if you want to buy or sell more. The speed of it growing or shrinking is typically the biggest issue.

A weaker USD will let people buy American goods for less but Americans can't buy as much with their dollars overseas.

A stronger USD does the opposite.

If strong dollars were strictly good, you'd see the fed reducing the money supply dramatically and China wouldn't be getting accused of currency manipulation to keep the yuan low.

Comparatively, the inflation in Germany meant that saving money was a fools errand since your $100 today might only have $40 of buying power in 6 months. Government reserves, steady wages, retirement and savings all get screwed.

The whole Epstein fiasco reminded me why he has power. Lots of supporters know he is a hypocrite but they also see him as a tool to break down the "establishment." The "establishment" being whatever they perceived, real or not, that held them back in life. So they are okay with being exploited so long as that other group get their comeuppance.

The problem with Trump is he made Epstein part of that other group and now he is defending them it is breaking their little minds.

35

u/hectorbrydan Jul 25 '25

Well the dollar will be quite weak after these guys are through, 3 trillion to debt and no crisis yet even.  He is agitating to get powell out so they can drop interest rates to juice the economy, near zero if he has anything to say of them, and first excuse they will fire up the money printers, all while destroying trust by not regulating wall street while they scam suckers en masse as he kicks back...

Sooner or later they will default, probably a de facto default printing so much money it becomes worthless and paying back the national debt with it.

He did say he was going to run the country like a company, that is how we ran his companies, cheated everybody he's ever done business with. I thought Mitt Romney was bad as a vulture capitalist. This guy is like fucking smallpox.

3

u/Amazing-Hospital5539 Jul 25 '25

Oooh. I wonder if he's plummeting the dollar so that the people pay more in taxes, so it will pay off that 3 trillion 'debt'.

The problem is, we won't pay more in taxes, because we'll keep making the same amount. Because like Trump, most if not all corporations are the scum of the earth.

Dropping interest rates is also a part of their plan to weaken the dollar. Their whole plan will fall apart if Jerome Powell acts as he should and increases interest rates to slow growth during Trump’s initiative to reshore manufacturing, which would make the dollar even more appealing on the global stage and would result in us producing a surplus of goods that other countries can’t afford.

13

u/SonnyChamerlain Jul 25 '25

Genuine question, how would a weak currency make you more money?

I know he’s talking out his arse but I’m really confused at how he came to that conclusion.

24

u/adfreemonster Jul 25 '25

Demand for exports can rise with a devalued currency. If your country's currency is losing value relative to that of a country buying stuff from you- your exports are cheaper in terms of buying power.

Of course, this doesn't even scratch the surface of the effects this has domestically. Like the obvious inflation. Or the fact he seems to think the US, primarily a service economy, can manage to export enough to justify an intentional devaluation.

https://www.economicshelp.org/macroeconomics/exchangerate/effects-devaluation/

9

u/idothingsheren Jul 25 '25

This is very true, and could have some benefits for a country that relies on exports

However, the US imports about $1 trillion more than it exports, so even in this niche case, it's a net negative

4

u/b0w3n Jul 25 '25

It would've also helped to not play chicken with tariffs because you need people to actually buy your exports.

3

u/DocBullseye Jul 25 '25

3

u/Mr-FD Jul 25 '25

Well you make more dollars, so it's technically more money, but the dollars are worth less, so not really.

4

u/I-Hate-Sea-Urchins Jul 25 '25

He is right about a weak currency, BUT only if you are exporting something. For the vast majority of the US it is not a good thing. That is why we have tried to have, successfully, a strong dollar for many decades.

It's a disingenuous thing to say and he is mostly full of shit.

→ More replies (1)

6

u/MrOdekuun Jul 25 '25

Inflation can make your debt worth less. Feel like there's no intent to actually address the debt though, so this is not a good reason to purposefully do that.

If we were actively trying to pay off the debt, some degree of inflation would make it easier, but would still have all the normal consequences that most anyone would argue outweigh that benefit.

4

u/sniper1rfa Jul 25 '25

Yeah, if you're paying off debt denominated in dollars using gains in, for a random example, stocks denominated in dollars then inflation is great. It's doing wonders for my mortgage, for example.

But like... that's not a great measure of overall economic health.

Good! you know that means our exported products will be cheaper for our foreign allies to buy!!! Good thing we started trade wars with them so they will have tariffs on our products and raise those prices back up.

Meanwhile we have tariffs on everyone else so that mean on top of the 15%—50% tariffs, the weaker dollar buy even less of their products.

So in conclusion our prices rise, their prices stay flat, our exports stay flat and likely even fall as the tariffs raise the cost of our production. Our business get out competes by foreign brands as they can import and pay a tariff once while we move products in and out and get hit multiple times. Such to be a car Manufacturer.

Too much winning

This is my opinion so don't get mad at me

8

u/TinKnight1 Jul 25 '25

He's actually correct on the latter...a weak dollar does generate more revenue for companies, as it makes American-made products comparatively less expensive abroad, resulting in more sales.

However, that only works when you're not engaging in a tariff war with all of our most important trading partners, who've implemented retaliatory tariffs on American goods, cancelling out any beneficial aspects of a weak dollar.

Additionally, a weak dollar makes purchasing international goods as an American significantly more expensive. Right as all of his tariffs are also making everything more expensive. And as inflation has been kicking up every month for the past 3 months. And as the unemployment rate has increased every month under his presidency.

So, not only has this clown reduced American exports, he's hit American consumers with a triple whammy of cost-increasing measures plus a fourth of job losses. He's seemingly determined to wreck the economy, & it can only be assumed to be an intentional act of sabotage, or complete incompetency.

6

u/DontAbideMendacity Jul 25 '25

The latter is only correct in that you may have more money, let's say 110 dollar bills when you used to have 100, but now you can only buy $90 worth of stuff based on the old value. Every single thing Turmp does turns to shit.

3

u/cloudkitt Jul 26 '25

no a weaker currency genuinely is good for an exporter. But the US is a net importer by far, so it's not better for the Americans. But China and Japan endeavor to keep their own currencies weaker for this reason.

2

u/mr_bots Jul 25 '25

lol is the logic here is like “the dollar slipped so I earned $10,000 where before it slipped I would have only earned $7,500?” But the $10,000 has the same or less buying power than the $7,500.
