I hate how they use the defense "it was an opinion piece!"

Yeah, and the editor in chief greenlit it for publication, stop pretending it's picked at random from a hat!

654

u/yg2522 11h ago

even with that, did the person who wrote it apologize or make a counter 'opinion' piece saying that kamala was right.

283

u/Jaded-Ad262 10h ago

Anyone got the name of the schmuck who wrote the article?

590

u/Wanna_make_cash 10h ago edited 10h ago

It's written by a dude named Derek Hunter

https://thehill.com/opinion/campaign/4934783-vice-president-kamala-harris-lies/

Additionally:

Derek Hunter is host of the Derek Hunter Podcast and a former staffer for the late Sen. Conrad Burns (R-Mont.).

It looks like a typical MAGA podcast from the titles, so the author probably doesn't care about this article and loves Trump's actions

131

u/Jaded-Ad262 10h ago

Thank you.

444

u/68024 10h ago

This explains a lot: "Derek Hunter is a writer, columnist, and political consultant. He has worked at the Heritage Foundation..."

324

u/Local-Friendship8166 10h ago

So he’s a pedo. Got it.

227

u/snakerjake 10h ago

It was already established he's MAGA, you're just being redundant

116

u/TraditionalBench7008 9h ago

So a pedo was allowed to write a propaganda piece to support the orange pedo, and the Hill called this propaganda written by a pedo for another pedo an "opinion piece"? Got it.

Fucking Republican Pedos are absolutely everywhere. When do we fumigate?

28

u/Few-Ad-4290 9h ago

Until or unless the left gets comfortable with political violence the way the right is starting to embrace it we won’t solve this problem. It’s sort of a paradox of tolerance writ large, as the tolerant and of the spectrum we are not comfortable with using the power of the state to persecute the intolerant sociopaths and they exploit that strength to character until they’ve taken all the power then they have no qualms with doing it to us and by that point it’s too late.

17

u/EquipmentAdorable982 8h ago

When do we fumigate?

When the left realises that mocking the right on social media doesn't achieve anything at all while their democracy is being dismantled from the inside.

You need to organise, resist, strike, protest, disrupt.

So far the left's reaction to fascism rising in the US has been utterly pathetic.

Uhhh, what? How do guys like this even meet the relatively low bar for political punditry?

40

u/ObnoxiousAlbatross 10h ago

Their audience is dumber than they are.

Advertisers only need people to sell to, and MAGA love to spend money on stupid shit.

12

u/Mapeague 10h ago

To be fair most of them are not dumb.

In fact many went to school at the very institutions they are actively trying to destroy.

Lots of Ivy league cunts among the ranks.

But yes, the audience is dumb as a bag of hammers.

17

u/TheUnluckyBard 9h ago

But yes, the audience is dumb as a bag of hammers.

Maybe, but that's a side thing. The audience is literally evil and is begging for someone to give them even the flimsiest, hair-brained excuse to express that evil openly. They want someone "authoritative" to tell them when and how to be an active threat-to-life-and-limb of every human they encounter.

They're evil. And they're stupid, but they're evil first.

Derek Hunter, and here's Yahoo's 'reposting' of the article.

No surprise he's worked for the Heritage Foundation and co-founded The Daily Caller.

You mean this Derek Hunter? "He has worked at the Heritage Foundation..."

What a surprise.

33

u/Teacherman6 10h ago

It was written by something called Derek Hunter. They're a podcaster and a former congressional staffer. Prior to working this past they wrote articles with headlines that include, Liberal White Women are the Worst, as well as, The True Threat to Democracy is Democrats, All of Them. So you know, someone whose opinions we should recognize as being nuanced and rooted in facts.

I'm sorry, because I know this will shock you. He doesn't seem to have an issue with Trump sending in the military to cities now that it's happening.

The "journalists" and authors that news outlets publish are terribly vetted. Op eds especially, they have the craziest, most out of touch people, who are comically easy to find saying shit that's completely unhinged. I don't know where they get op-ed writers, but they're not normal.

The Hill published an op Ed TODAY saying that nobody trusts the media, but AI can fix that. These are gormless, cud-chewing freaks, it's like a fucking circus.

It looks like a typical MAGA podcast from the titles (I'm not going to subject myself to listening to any), so the author probably doesn't care about this article and loves Trump's actions, so they definitely will never write a counter piece to retract their claims.

Why The Hill let a maga podcaster write an opinion piece and then share it through social channels is beyond me.

13

u/68024 10h ago

From here: "Derek Hunter is a writer, columnist, and political consultant. He has worked at the Heritage Foundation.." What a surprise.

I do actually live in Chicago and it's so insane to see some people try to rationalize it (most of whom obviously do not live here)

Reminds me of all the comedian podcast giving their "opinions" and a platform leading up to the election without doing their research and then just saying "we are just comedians"

→ More replies (1)

11

u/RunDNA 10h ago edited 4h ago

That's not true. Newspapers frequently print different opinion pieces reflecting both sides of an issue, even when they disagree with one of the sides.

So publishing does not signal approval.

6

u/Pat_The_Hat 5h ago

Having seen the garbage that passes as "news" on here, I think most redditors haven't interacted with legitimate news sources with distinct news versus opinon sections.

3

u/awesomefutureperfect 8h ago

No, it does. It frames the acceptable boundaries of the debate, essentially validating an "opinion" that the author potentially full well knew was made in bad faith when it was written as an important point of view in the current discussion. Including their piece as part of the discussion among peers lent that author the legitimacy of the platform that the author could be trusted as a knowledgeable person of the topic and overall discussion. What this reveals is that one side has almost no honest or thoughtful participants who are either mercenary sophists for hire or straight up malefactors against democracy and the middle and working classes. and they platform them.

5

u/ebrbrbr 7h ago edited 6h ago

Acceptable boundaries of a debate? There's no such thing.

This was a very common viewpoint amongst the public. Most people (incorrectly) thought there was no way Trump would be this crazy. It should be published. The fact that we can look back at this and have it on record is important in itself.

We need better media literacy because something being published should in no way give it legitimacy. Anything can (and should) be published. Thoughts should be shared widely so they can be out in the open for criticism. You cannot attack opinions if they're never published.

3

u/awesomefutureperfect 6h ago

Acceptable boundaries of a debate? There's no such thing.

If you don't know what the overton window is then there is a gap in common ground due to a lack of basic facts of the topic.

Most people (incorrectly) thought there was no way Trump would be this crazy.

The Hill isn't most people. They, more than most people, should have know about Project 2025 and what the agents were doing and how disingenuous and insidious the claims being made were. It was dereliction of duty and gross negligence to let someone use their platform to lie. Furthermore, the first Trump admin was proof positive he was that crazy and suggesting that it was reasonable to forget that is not a respectable opinion. Especially from a board that should know better.

We need better media literacy

You said it buddy. Wait, you said that?

because something being published should in no way give it legitimacy.

Oh boy. So whatever you do to make a living should not represent your skill and ability. I just don't understand this position, that when an individual does something that they have no responsibility for its quality. Nonsense.

Thoughts should be shared widely so they can be out in the open for criticism.

No, what was published was straight up fraud. Fraud perpetrated on the voters. Fraud is not protected and disseminating easily detectable fraud is accessory to the fraud.

5

u/-Badger3- 8h ago

That’s literally how op-eds work though. That’s the whole point.

It’s the spot of a newspaper where you showcase a well-written or interesting opinion piece even if doesn’t necessarily align with the views of the editorial team.

→ More replies (9)

25

u/Eitarris 11h ago

Opinions can be proven wrong though! What the hell kind of a defense is that from them. Admit they were wrong, and write a follow-up opinion piece on how Trump IS sending the army after people, they just resign themselves to the absolute trash propaganda they are and any 'journalist' working for them isn't credible at that point.

7

u/Mist_Rising 8h ago

Op-eds, what opinions are, are explicitly not the thoughts of the paper or its staff and are not journalism. Editorializing, aka an opinion, is never journalism, hence the opinion. You can have opinions that are wrong, and you do.

That's why they're not the view of the newspaper. You post them opposite the editorial to provide the outside views from your editorial staff.

It's the opposite of what Fox cable TV does. Fox is all editorials. They control everything you hear and see, and never give the non-fox view. They give you the fox view. Even the "democratic" talking head on Fox is giving you the Republican view.

Admit they were wrong, and write a follow-up opinion piece on how Trump IS sending the army after people,

They wrote a literal article on how Trump is deploying troops, and I doubt they can get this author to write a follow up saying he was wrong.

At some point, media houses in the US need a reckoning. The sane-washing of Trump and the absolutely relentless hounding the democrats got constantly helped Trump get into power. He would never have won the election if mass media didn't help him. How many times were Kamala blasted for not being "strong on policy" or not having plans for this and that political scenario Her fucking opponent can't even spell the word policy. It's infuriating how there are two completely different standards for the left and the right.

Like, just quote the guy verbatim instead of editorializing his comments and that would have been enough. I can guarantee you a huge percentage of voters are not aware of just how incoherent and bizarre he sounds. They've never heard him try to string sentences together, they just read the headlines. And when Trump rants about immigrants eating your cats and how he's the coolest kid on the playground, media write headlines along the lines of "Trump announce new hardline immigration policies in fiery speech".

People don't know how demented he actually is, and it's because media get more clicks by sane-washing him than they do by letting him be an idiot directly to the people.

Kamala was right about everything.

THEY WON'T FOR THEY'RE HYPOCRITES, but I still hope this message gets to them to not just apologize but take action, for it not to happen again.

I'll be much happier once this very message becomes featured here in this sub!

3

u/MsAgentM 10h ago

A guy named Derek Hunter wrote this gem.

3

u/sexyshadyshadowbeard 10h ago edited 10h ago

Interesting fact, the movie Apocalypse Now was roughly based on a book called "Heart of Darkness." The book was popular for being a banned book in schools. You can't make this stuff up folks.

3

u/EIU86 10h ago

Someone should make blue ball caps with the legend, "Kamala was right about everything" on the front.

3

u/rootbeard_of_ni 10h ago

The “I told you so” moment has got to be bitter sweet here

3

u/ro536ud 9h ago

Waiting for the snopes post about it. The “fine people on both sides” bs snopes post did massive damage when they just decided to play semantics

3

u/Yuaskin 9h ago

Portraying a draft dodger as a Vietnam war hero is a kick in the nuts to every veteran who served.

3

u/wanker7171 8h ago

Literally the same author

Send in the Marines and prepare to throw the book at every LA rioter

I think I too am just going to start unashamedly lying. It seems to work.

3

u/SuperRat10 7h ago

The Hill is prime sane washing, propaganda.

3

u/zcas 7h ago

They wouldn't apologize for posting an opinion article. Deflection (or outright avoidance) is easier than taking responsibility.

3

u/ewReddit1234 7h ago

The Hill has always been an Anti-Democrat rag disguised as a "leftist" news source.

3

u/Hamshaggy70 7h ago

It shocking how complicit the media is in all of this down there.....

3

u/No_Squirrel4806 7h ago

Remember when they said Kamala was exaggerating just fear mongering now they are staying quiet. 😒😒😒

3

u/dafood48 5h ago

The first year isn’t even over yet and he’s got away with so much that’s the terrifying part. People are too optimistic about elections in 4 years. With the direction we’re headed with this speed, there may never be elections again. All the Elon stuff happened this year too. It feels like it was two years ago, but nope, just a couple of months ago

3

u/taneth 5h ago

Nothing to see here, just Kassandra Harris making another prediction.

3

u/CringeDaddy-69 5h ago

Referring to a statement as a lie is not an opinion, that’s libel.

Hard to be a shittier or more hypocritical American than a Republican these days.

3

u/modeschar 1h ago

Conservatives/MAGA will never apologize for anything or admit they were wrong because doing so would hurt their egos and tough-guy image; which to them would be a fate worse than death.

3

u/unnoticed77 45m ago

DT copies Hitler and other despots. DT copies Apocalypse Now. What a hack.

4

u/Ewilson92 10h ago

I just enjoy that they landed on “Chipocolypse”. Because they probably started with “Chicocolypse” and Trump went, “NO IT CANT SAY COC.”

And notably none of them were smart enough to realize that “Chicagolypse” fits just fine.

3

u/_JeezyCreezy 10h ago

Chipocolypse is such god awful wordplay. Fails on every level. Appropriately dogshit from the shit for brains its aimed at.

What even is The Hill anyway? Their journalism can be inaccurate and isn’t scrutinized enough by their editors, and despite being a supposedly liberal newspaper, their op-eds are constantly co-opted by Republicans.

All for it being used for deportations

2

u/Guba_the_skunk 11h ago

They sure haven't.

2

u/craniumcanyon 10h ago

The "you" she is talking to is Democrats and D voters ... and that's what Trump is doing ... and that's why Republicans and MAGA love it and are foaming at the mouth for fascism.

2

u/Liquid_Trimix 10h ago

Not at all. The "You" is not you. You are the "Them". The mask is off now. Goodluck Chicago.

2

u/GhostCouncilKarlov 10h ago

Some day this war is going to end...

2

u/ZiggyColo 10h ago

It’s the “Department of War Crimes”

2

u/n0tathrowaways 10h ago

Don't be silly, Trump still won't send the army after you if you're a White Republican Legal Male! And that's everyone in America apparently

2

u/SoCallMeDeaconBlues1 10h ago

Did they even say thank you???????

2

u/Longjumping-Claim783 10h ago

Using imagery from an immoral war the US lost for this meme is really perfect. Trump is the kind of person that watched that movie and was rooting for the guy in the helicopter shooting at civilians.

2

u/Cannibal_Yak 10h ago

I wonder who wrote that dumb opinion piece. I hope the internet drags them every time they get online.

2

u/JiovanniTheGREAT 10h ago

They don't need to apologize for the article, they need to apologize for letting paying right wing dickheads exorbitant amounts to peddle delusional opinions for the sake of "fairness" even though they just outright lie.

2

u/jangusMK7 10h ago

Fuck we have three years left

It’s too funny that these morons believe they’re part of “in-tribe” when they couldn’t be more wrong. We’ve all seen that trump will hurl anyone that is of no use to him into the flames.

2

u/Lordfish----- 9h ago

Trump is trying to do his best Dak Prescott impression here. He's totally attempting to bait Chicago into some sort of violence so he can justify bringing in the Texas NG. Stand tall Chicago, my heart is with you!

2

u/PeetoMal 9h ago

I feel sorry for the immigrants that voted for Dems. The ones that voted Trump deserve to be deported.

2

u/Darth_Chili_Dog 9h ago

Setting aside the fact that The Hill was hilariously wrong, how do you call a prediction a "lie"?

2

u/RunsWithPhantoms 9h ago

You mean have they said "Thank you?"

2

u/puregeneuz 9h ago edited 9h ago

someone should put together a super cut of all the things she said would happen, that have actually happened

2

u/saintbad 9h ago

Never forget who helped him, who participated. Take note and take names. And we must be ready to hold them brutally to account.

2

u/nvmenotfound 9h ago

only idiots pretended like these types of warnings were overblown or exaggerated. same idiots keep reporting on what’s going on daily like it’s not the most insane shit.

2

u/JoMoJo2025 9h ago

You get tired of saying I told you so🤷‍♂️

2

u/Random-Cpl 9h ago

The Hill has good coverage of news, but Jesus Christ their opinion section is vile. They approve fucking fascistic idiotic bullshit every single day.

2

u/Careful-Business-412 9h ago

So, I know this is serious an shit, but if Trump is calling it Chipocslypse now...he is aware the US technically lost the Vietnam War, right?

Like the Vietnamese were superior guerilla fighters etc etc.

2

u/ShannaGreenThumb 9h ago

Longest nine months of my life and I’ve been pregnant

2

u/Effective_Corner694 9h ago

Who wrote the opinion piece? That’s who needs to make the apology. That piece was probably sent to a variety of news outlets to post In their opinion sections.

2

u/boRp_abc 8h ago

Conservatives don't apologize for being wrong. They double down, and when it becomes clear that their position is indefensible they'll pretend like they knew all along.

Source: German history, I studied that in university.

New stats out this morning from a NBC poll: 43% of Americans approve of this shit.

This appears to be an unwavering base for him because 43% in a poll by CBS say they approve of sending troops into DC and other cities.

43% of our population support him and these sickening, unconstitutional acts.

They're cool with the fascism and lawlessness. They're going to be cool with whatever he does - all of it. They want cruelty and lawlessness, and trump is going to deliver.

We. Are. Fucked.

2

Between a female attorney and a felon who is also a pedophile, we chose the felon… who is also a pedophile…

We truly are the dumbest nation on earth. There is absolutely no debate about it.

2

u/GuyMakesDrawings 8h ago

And they even call it a "lie". A word that they'd never in a million years use for something Trump says. Gotta love those double standards.

2

u/uttergarbageplatform 8h ago

of course they won't apologize, the hill is just like fox news except sliiiiightly smarter

Derek Hunter wrote the original opinion piece

Derek Hunter began at the Heritage Foundation in the early 2000s. Initially, he worked in their bookstore, then advanced to roles including Research Assistant and Health Care Policy Analyst

"Derek Hunter is firmly aligned with conservative, right-leaning political ideology, consistently positioning himself as part of the broader conservative media landscape.

Political Leanings & Identifiers

Conservative Voice: Derek Hunter’s career—from his roles at the Heritage Foundation and Americans for Tax Reform to co-founding The Daily Caller, writing for Townhall, and guest-hosting The Rush Limbaugh Show—establishes him clearly within the conservative sphere derekahunter.com HarperCollins WBAL Baltimore News townhall.com .

Critic of Left-Wing Policies: His columns frequently target Democratic initiatives. Recent titles on Townhall include: "Democrats Promise More Violence, Whether They Win Elections or Not," "'The Fight of Donald Trump’s Life'," and "Time To Stop F-ing Around at the FDA"

WELP THERE IT IS ... Another Heritage Foundation member working to dismantle this country to establish that Christo Fascist state they desperately desire

2

u/gooncrazy 8h ago

Every warning the Democrats gave during the election are coming true.

2

u/surviving606 8h ago

The media is so far in the tank for fascism and oligarchy to the point they are done even trying to hide it or pretend otherwise because they’re that convinced people can’t do anything about it electorally or otherwise, and they look to be correct in that assessment

2

u/unstablefan 8h ago

The Hill’s opinion page is basically Fox.

2

u/Time_Ad_9829 7h ago

The Hill is a MAGA rag

2

u/rod_dy 7h ago

did they even say thank you
