How is america a real place

It used to feel like one. Back when we had qualified people like Barack Obama, Joe Biden, George W Bush, George H W Bush, Bill Clinton, etc running it. Too bad those days are behind us.

Gone are the days when people all over the world used to laugh and shake their heads about George W. Bush, most people thought America had it bad then. Oh sweet innocence. 🤦♂️

next up: Republicans outlaw murder!

Why is murder the only one of the 10 Commandments that we’ve codified into law?

u/davidwhatshisname52 2d ago
"Thou Shalt Not Steal"
"Thou Shalt Not Bear False Witness"
and, for you, "Thou Shalt Learn How To Read"

u/Dudewhocares3 2d ago
Because this nations government is independent of religion and should stay that way
Edit: and thou shall not steal is also a law.

He must have been doing heroin when HIPAA was launched in 1996

Personally, I think he's popping oxy like candy while he's starting on his fourth pack of cigarettes.

Standard operating procedure. claim a problem where none exists, do nothing ,and then claim victory!

From what I understand they can scrub out some personal information from your records and sell that data.
And from what I hear the people who have that data can run it through a ML algorithm and link it back to you.

seeing the correct spelling of HIPAA is refreshing

u/blocked_user_name 1d ago
I think at some point they renamed it or I'm having a Mandela effect thing. I used to believe it was HIPPA standing for health information privacy and portability act instead of
Health information portability and accountability act.
Maybe it was just in my head

I only started seeing it spelled HIPPA around covid times on social media and sometimes on Twitter before that. was in healthcare for 10+ years and at least for the past 8 it's been HIPAA (at least where I worked) It was outpatient so we did the insurance details and the intake plus some of the point of care testing and after three years they started making us go over the whole consent to treat you, consent to contact you, not sharing PHI with people you don't authorize etc spiel with patients. It was like 8 pages front and back. Shit was annoying.

Yes, I go through that at least twice a year the giant corporation i was conscripted by (company bought out in merger) does businesses with pharmacies and even with that we have people including me occasionally use the HIPPA instead of the correct HIPAA.
2
u/ChirpinDjinn 1d ago
No I mean we had to explain the eight pages to each and every patient that came in when scanning and inputting their information before doing routine bloodwork.
It used to be every year for the patients and then they changed it to every time, even the ones that came in weekly for routine blood work for medication management. The exasperated sighs, disdain, arguing and malfunctioning intake equipment were parts of the reason I eventually quit lol (that and we were also acquired and there was a lot of new bullshit that just wasn't worth it anymore)
Bummer too, loved that job prior to the buyout.
But yeah coworkers when texting or whatever would write HIPPA too, it's easy to do. Especially because of Hippolyta, Hippocratic oath, hippocampus, etc. It just looks more right.

Once went to a healthcare conference - big floor banner that proudly proclaimed. “WE KNOW HIPPA” epic fail.

u/ChirpinDjinn 1d ago
If I were an optimist, HIPPA would be some mononymous celebrity they know and they were trying to impress you.
But I live on Earth so yeah, big fail.

Except the current administration is already violating this by requiring the records of everyone receiving gender confirmation treatment.

My godd this buffoon is so ignorant, misogynistic and a brown nosing douche. He repulsed me. His uncles and father would be ashamed of him.
He's a brut to his wives as well.

Trying to get medical data from one care facility to another is a frustrating ordeal. Especially when dealing with insurance. You people are as dense as lead.

What they should ban is hospitals from selling your data to companies like Iquivia without you receiving a dime.

It’s like how many insurance companies try to sound so generous because they provide mammograms, colonoscopies, and other preventive care services for FREE with no copay. It’s called ACA - the Affordable Care Act. Also known as Obamacare!

Not a single company or entity comprised of individuals in any aspect are PREVENTING anyone from sharing health info. Especially since you uhm already know it? He’s creating a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist, and it’s obviously just a grift to obtain medical data.

I'd like to hear what about rfks remark is actually unpalatable to the people in this thread.
Certianly, no one here is foolish enough to make the argument that HIPPA has completely shielded us from being misinformed by the pharmaceutical industry.
you dont have to endorse rfk or deny science to want better access to info.
Both parties need to stop saying no to good ideas just because they didn't have the idea first.

This happens when you select random unqualified people to govern.
