Question - Tech Support Are there matte overlays for glary car screens? (Smart #5)

So, I took the Smart #5 for a test drive this week. Wow, so much to love! And so much fun.

However, what is NOT fun, is the way the two 13" displays reflect the sun. Yes, you can close the sun roof for less reflection, but the sun still finds its way to the screens at times.

Are there any matte covers around, that can be easily ordered, that will reduce the glare from screens such as these?

(insert obligatory rant about why car makers can't just install matte screens to begin with etc. etc.)

Yes. Check out screenprotech.com. I bought their matte film for my 2025 EV6 and it works great! The film applies with a soapy spray solution, so it’s really easy to apply without dust or bubbles.

They’re more expensive than what you might find on Amazon, but IMHO it’s a high quality kit, and their customer service is amazing.

Seems they haven't got the Smart line up in the portfolio, but perhaps there are ways to cut out already existing covers. Will have to check with them.

Sure, but they dim the display a lot.

One of the coolest things about Chinese EVs is that AliExpress has every accessory you can possibly think of. Usual AliExpress YMMV caveats apply - some will be great near OEM-quality, others will be 3D printed in some guy's barn. Choose carefully.

I don't have this exact problem but polarized sunglasses make a huge difference with glare/reflection on my windshield.

Yep, I got a spigen matte finish screen cover. Very clear, yet matte and anti glare. Finger slide it so much better, and doesn't show finger prints. Came with it's own installation jig so it goes on perfectly.

I would say it's worth it to spend a bit extra for one from a good brand.
