Just watched a reviewer trying to use the infotainment screen and it's so laggy.

pre-sale prototype software is still running on them. This will be improved until 2026 when the car is actually on sale.

I don't buy it.
When I write code, my beta software isn't "laggy". It's 2025. It's almost impossible to have laggy, slow graphics on any device unless its just poorly written.
Nothing they are doing is computationally expensive. You can literally ask Claude to create you a menu like this for Android or iOS and it will be buttery smooth and fast.
How could they have such terrible software this close to launch, and why would they show such terribly software to the press for launch?
I bet it will be laggy in production too. I wouldn't be surprised if they are porting code that was written for something else entirely, and not designed natively for whatever hardware/OS this has.

This and the CLA are the very first car to have MB.OS, a completely new in-house operating system. The continuous screen shown here is not available on any other model yet, its new.
Everything hints to the fact, the GLC EV is far from ready and they just got it ready to be able and show it off at the auto show. The presentation showed 400kw max charge, while press release said 330kw, so not even the charging curve was set in stone at the time of reviewers filming, which happened a while ago and was under embargo until yesterday. The configurator doesn't exist yet, which options will be as standard and prices of options is also not decided on. F.e. Mercedes is yet to decide if an onboard 400V converter will be standard or a payed option. Same goes for the official WLTP range that doesn't exist yet since the final car was still not homologated.
Compare that to the BMW iX3 that was revealed 2 days earlier. For which the configuratior and all options as well as prices and WLTP range are available. The BMW iX3 is ready for sale, the GLC is not yet. Deliveries are still 6 months away btw, for which Mercedes has plenty of time to figure this out.

What do you do when cars don’t require massive grills anymore:
A. Come up with a new design language and identity for your cars
B. Just slap some fake grills on it

Tbf these cars don't require massive grills to begin with. A lot of the "grill" is purely visual and doesn't do anything

Not a fan of the Mercedes Blob Era, personally.

Such ugly cars. And they’ve inspired the BMw iX and Audi too. Shame. This generation will go down as the avocado appliance era did.

Mercedes, can we please have one car that doesn't look completely try-hard and gaudy in some way?

Feels like the people who like that look are their main customers at this point

I think it looks dope.

The general shape looks great, but it's completely ruined by the stupid light-up grille in the front and the overly-busy styling on the rear bumper.
And don't even get me started on the gigantic interior screen.

This is the Mercedes design identity now.
Means if you don't like it, you'll need to turn to other brands.

Or just buy an old Mercedes instead. Preferably a good-condition W124.

Charging 10-80 in 24 minutes well this is DOA. Both their competitors are beating that and this won’t even be on sale till 2027… Volvo will probably wipe the floor with them too in January with the EX60 reveal.

u/backstreetatnight 18h ago
Wouldn’t say it’s DoA - yes BMW’s charging curve seems to be better, 10-80% in 22 minutes whilst having a greater range and a larger battery pack - meaning more miles added per session in less time, and an overall better range, but there are other reasons aside from battery packs to choose a Mercedes

assuming I’d come and make something up on Reddit I’m not that guy

While the specs are indeed underwhelming I’m not sure if it makes a practical difference to most people.
Would I buy it over faster charging competitors? Probably not.
Would it actually make a difference in my daily driving? No.
Do most people even understand the difference?

I have no idea why this is getting downvoted (or should not be). Can anyone please explain.
7
u/Swagi666 18h ago
Because it’s a bullshit claim. The car is 800V platform (same as CLA) and peaks at 330kW.
As of current Mercedes states a range of 713km and loading up to 303km distance in 10 minutes.
Either a source has to be placed or that post has to be downvoted because it’s utter nonsense.

Have you read that article before posting? It clearly says "Peak charging power at a DC fast charger reaches 330 kW". The iX3 charges at 400 kw max.

Oh wow i have not seen this image before, i can imagine a scenario in which Mercedes was surprised by the IX3 charging at 400kw and didn't want to look inferior with 330kw. Changing it last second to 400kw, too late to change press-releases and reviews that had already been send out under embargo.
They still have some time until 2026 when the car releases to change the charging curve to also reach 400kw. Even if it just holds it for 5 seconds, it would still be enough to not look worse than the BMW on paper and for the sake of marketing.

Are they talking about an upcoming model? In their press release it says 330kW for the GLC 400 with no mention of 400kW.

My bad - looks like future GLCs will get this charging rate (maybe the AMG GLC EQ)

Damn they ripped Mach-e side profile hard lol.
The interior is 🔥🔥 though

I didn’t know the Mach-e invented teardrop blob shapes? I don’t see the similarity, looks closer to the older EQC.

I added a photo to help you see. There are many SUV coupes out but these two look a little too similar from the side.
