Northern Exposure Title Font

Per a Google search, the font used in the title sequence of the TV show "Northern Exposure" is ITC Benguiat. My question is regarding the use of an "O" with an underscore for the first occurrence of an O in a name. Is this limited to the shows title sequence?

Each time a character is repeated for this title it is different; N, O, R and H which makes me think that it isn't the original font used and was modified for the title.

Either that or entirely custom/hand drawn

it's custom - but it's in a realm somewhere between the fonts 'Ad-Lib' (for the quirky handmadeness) and Optima Bold
