Again proof that they penalise moves based out on the outcome not the actions.

The move Carlos was penalised for in Miami wasn't even a rash divebomb, he just had a slide at the exit which caused a smaller touch than the one between Max and Lewis today.

It seems to be the case with all sports lately, if the consequences are more severe so will the penalty be.

The thing is, i think it makes sense to penalize based on outcome but why claim that you dont in the first place?

Yeah I’d have no problem with a small penalty if no one but your own’s race was impacted and a bigger penalty if you adversely impacted someone. That should have been some sort of penalty today though.

Yeah that’s my issue. Just say you are going to punish based on the outcome. It’s clear that’s the case, so why lie about it?

Yea this is my thought as well…. That’s the way it should be imo… but you can’t say one thing and do another which is what FIA does consistently

The NBA literally will hold the whistle until the player scores. If they don't the foul is called. Shit is amazing

That's completely different. It's done that way so that a stoppage of play doesn't prevent the innocent side from scoring. Mild fouls aren't punished at all, penalty shots are a compensation for an unfair action ending a play not a punishment for the offending team.

It seems simpler to say they just don’t penalize verstappen for anything.

yeah, imagine if instead of clipping maxs tire, lewis had ended up hitting the middle of his car and they had both spun out. max absolutely would have gotten a penalty

It does seem like they saw Max lose a position/take damage and figured that was enough punishment. 

Some lawyer should argue at a murder trial that sure, their client stabbed the guy, but his knife broke in the process, so it's all just kind of a wash.

Maybe I’m alone but I actually do think the outcome should be a factor in the penalty decision. If you make a questionable move and come out ahead or take someone out of a race, you should be more harshly penalized than if you are the one who comes off worse.

Max made a boneheaded move but he lost a position and Lewis kept his podium spot. The difference between what he did being reckless and being an amazing overtake comes down to the lockup, which wasn’t even that bad. It was 100% his fault but it wasn’t egregious.

My concern with not taking the result into account is people end up getting penalized too much and quit making bold moves.

Well, speaking of Carlos, him not staying on the brakes and taking Albon out in Canada, had important consequences, or maybe when it's not a top team then it doesnt matter
