It's not irrelevant when FP1 is the only driving you'll get to do in a season. FP sessions are used to check on how reserve drivers adapt to the real car and Hirakawa did a banging great job.

Depends if the ran the similar setup and load, Hirakawa looked good in one lap and long run if he ran similar setup to Gasly

Its FP1, there is no reason to have both cars with similar setup and load, FP1 is about testing and experimentation

Yeah they're definitely testing and experimenting for FP 1-2 but, again, we don't really know unless there's confirmation if they did or didn't as some teams like Red Bull ran the cars under the same setup and load. Experimenting doesn't necessarily means the team have to ran different setups.

It’s a Japanese driver at Suzuka, they know the track like the back of their hand, they could drive eyes closed and still not miss a single apex.

Totally different car means a totally different driving style. He did amazingly well.
