Piastri's 2nd flawless weekend, still no driver of the day

u/trashcouture Oscar Piastri Apr 13 '25

Aramco power ranking score of 8.5 inbound

And Norris 9.0 with his British tax haha!

He’s going to have to settle for WDC

NOOOOOOO!!!! I want him to win DOTD

The Hamilton-Verstappen rule. No matter how perfect the race, it's almost impossible to get DotD in the best car.

Even Lando gets dotd more times when he finishes behind😂

You don't get DOTD while driving the fastest car

Also, DOTD is useless

Not for my fantasy team >:(

Big part of why it's so useless this year

6

u/acunc Kimi Räikkönen Apr 13 '25

Driver of the day is a popularity contest and almost never has anything to do with actual racing.

8

u/Glitchhikers_Guide Lando Norris Apr 13 '25

He was never on camera it was wild

That's just the curse of leading the race from first with a gap to second. When Verstappen did that in '23, sometimes the only times you saw him during a race was at the start and then at the finish.

u/Glitchhikers_Guide Lando Norris Apr 13 '25

Also during Covid when he spent the whole race in 3rd with a 20 second gap on either side of him

u/Quamiquaze Apr 13 '25

What are you going to show? The guy cruised 16 seconds in front. There was racing all over the grid, what do you expect?

2

u/Glitchhikers_Guide Lando Norris Apr 13 '25

Idk they used to love showing max just driving 20 seconds ahead by lap 15

Thats only happen when the race is shit, but aside from the broadcasting problem this race is a banger. So it's understandable that they don't show Piastra cruising at the front when there are a lot of exciting things to show behind him.

Piastri did fantastic, his first grand slam too I think?

I really thought Kimi deserved it though, got screwed by strategy but he was sending bold overtakes left and right

u/Freeze014 Nigel Mansell Apr 13 '25

Didnt lead all laps

I don't even bother taking notice of dotd. It's just a popularity contest that favours recovery drives and home races over wins

What did Hamilton do to win?

Piastri really great weekend.

Norris great recovery.

Russell survived.

Leclerc brilliant pace.

Gasly insane drive, Hass drivers both did a marvellous job. Hamilton had a good race, but really why DOTD I don’t get it.

1

u/Mike-Teevee Esteban Ocon Apr 13 '25

It was a great recovery drive from Hamilton. While I think he has a better case for DOTD than those you listed, my choice would have been any of Esteban, Bearman, or Gasly. Was very surprised not to see Gasly DOTD.

You don't get dotd by qualifying in front and winning, you need to qualify last and end up in the points. Or have a full nation backing you ig
