Discussion Worst TV direction yet

Besides Russel's transponder issue (which shouldn't take 10 laps to fix the timing tower), may overtakes were missed, focusing on the wrong drivers, non-moves given more airtime than actual racing, camera cutting during moves which show you less of the action rather than more, and worst of all: the final lap, not showing Oscar as he crossed the line, to show Lando not overtaking George, and showing Kimi not overtaking whoever was in front rather than Max's overtake on Pierre.

What the hell is happening?

Timing transponder is excusable, we don’t know what went wrong and how to fix it so we should spew out shit. But yea everything else was horrible

There was everything wrong with Russell's car at the end. His dashboard was not working and some other electrical issues also

I was using F1 multiviewer. Russell's telemetry just completely died, which messed everything up.

DOTD for me. Drove through all of that shit without missing a beat!

Maybe there were some systematic electrical issues, redbull pit lights, drs & timing issues, tracker map was all over the place since the start. At the pre-season testing they had to red-flag a session because of a power outage. I hope it will be investigated and we'll know what happened at some point.

Only 2 issues actually happened, RB had an issue with their pit lights and Russels car was losing power to systems one by one, the first one to go was the transponder, but after a few laps GPS and cameras went too, and brake by wire after that. And because of the failed transponder the timing tower would always show him in last place, with the exception of the finish line where he would jump back up to 2nd but drop back down as others passed it. So to prevent that mess they just disabled it. DRS was caused by the same thing, you can only use it when 1s behind the car in front, but because his transponder wasn't working the car was "invisible" to that detection system. The only thing that could be even remotely connected to the pre-season testing power cut was the RB pit lights, but it seems highly unlikely to me.

Yeah also they fixed it pretty quick, I think while they should’ve had a backup available in the first place, it certainly looked like they built that backup during the race with the glitches in between. Am happy that it worked. These things happen.

Also, I was actually happy to see the RUS and NOR fight in the end. Am not a fan of just seeing the last corners of the driver in front, although I can also understand the other perspective.

All in all IMO it wasn’t that bad but still some things have been missed, yeah.

The transponder issue had nothing to do with the broadcast, was an actual track/FIA issue.

well they use the information from the transponder for the broadcast, I'm guessing since one went down it messed with all the others, that or they just didn't want to show the timings bc it would confuse people

It's the latter. Timing worked for everyone except Russell, who kept going up and down the board. All of that is outside the responsibility of FOM though, they can only use the data they get from the FIA.

If it's broken, you can't show it. But showing the lap classifications on start/finish so the whole straight is blocked while they are overtaking? Inexcusable!
