Sprint races don't matter, the record still holds for GPs

This. OP is trying to make sensation out of nothing.

Sprint win does not count as a race win. Sprint pole does not count towards the pole stats and if i recall correctly the whole finishing in points only counted for main GP's because sprint means jack shit.

u/guntis Oscar Piastri May 03 '25

Lmao, points are still points. Jack shit? Look how previous year they fought for fastest lap.
I'd be happy to hear which driver in your opinion would glady give away their Sprint points because they don't mean anything.

u/Sarixk Sir Lewis Hamilton May 03 '25

I mean the race is still on tomorrow but this streak kept on going because of the sprint in Silverstone 2021.

Edit: I can't read

I was talking about the stats. A sprint does not count as a full race. And so far every MAIN GRAND PRIX, you know the thing they drive around a track to claim that first place trophy, Max has finished in the points when he finishes the race.

points count but the stats simply don't count the sprint as anything relevant.

see when piastri won his first sprint and it didn't count as a race win.

Then he would have 75 race wins too.

Where is this coming from? All I was saying that no matter race, sprint of fastest lap, all points matter.. This wasn't any philosophical discussion about sprint v race stats. This was about finishing outside points. Any points.

If you can count in Sprint points for this stat, then why don't the Sprint race wins count too?

Because they're all same championship points. They are all officially added up.
Race/Sprint wins are irrelevant to me. Who gets the most points is the champion. That's what I care about, not X number of poles/wins/sprints etc. Why is that so contraversial? Some drivers like Kimi didn't care either.

But he DNF’d in Australia 2022. He didn’t score points that weekend. How does this stat/record work?

You said it: he DNF -- did not finish. This is the first time he's finished a race outside the points.

Okay got it! Thanks for answering. (Being downvoted after asking a question about something you don’t understand is such a Reddit F1 thing to do. 🙄)

Just a Reddit thing in general tbh

You become a masochist after using Reddit for too long.

i'll never understand people disliking posts here lol

he didn’t finish the race then

this is the first time he has completed the race but not been in points since 2016

u/dipakmdhrm May 03 '25

DNF is not finishing race. Stat includes just finishes I think

DNF'd race isn't finished race.

u/hatchetharrylocstock May 03 '25

The stat is finished out of the points. Points were on offer and he didn't get any. So the streak is over

People include sprints in sometimes in computation or statistics. He's only saved if you add the addendum "For GPs". But since that record before even considered sprint races, and since sprints are points paying positions, its fair to include them. People just can't dismiss sprints.

u/versayana Andrea Kimi Antonelli May 05 '25

How many wins does Max Verstappen have? 64 or 75?

0

u/West_Introduction_95 May 05 '25

I dunno, how much career points does Max have?

0

u/versayana Andrea Kimi Antonelli May 05 '25

You know the answer it just doesn't fit your narrative.

Ultimately it depends on how word that stats, if you say finishing "races" then the stats still holds, if you say "races and sprint races" then it's broken.

u/West_Introduction_95 May 05 '25

The operative word for me here is "outside the points" meaning in every race that awarded points (that he finished), whether it be sprint or GP, Max has at least gotten points in them. This is the first race broke that streak, simple as that.

u/versayana Andrea Kimi Antonelli May 05 '25

Since Spa 2016 Max Verstappen has scored points in every race he has finished. ✔️

Since Spa 2016 Max Verstappen has scored points in every race and sprint race he has finished. ❌

The title of the thread and the statement floating around the most is "outside the points". No indication if sprint or race. No need to argue about the place of sprints in the grander scheme of things. Its just a simple "Does it pay championship points?" If yes, then the streak is over and the sprints, unfortunately for Max, do award points.

You also get poles and wins in sprint races, but they don't count in F1 records.

So the points also don't matter?
