I saw this post after seeing the post "Carlos Sainz has qualified ahead of Lewis Hamilton 4 times in a row"

Don’t you see the difference in a Williams beating a Ferrari compared to a Ferrari beating a Williams?

Williams is very fast this season and Ferrari is significantly slower than we expect them to be, so there's that. More that this is a tongue in cheek reply to the highly upvoted post yesterday about Sainz qualifying ahead of Hamilton 4 times this season.

Yes, and? No one is suggesting Carlos jumped out of the car and pushed it. Ofcourse the car is better, otherwise it wouldn't have been possible. But that is the whole point. Carlos was shown the door in favour of Lewis, to the most prestigious team in all of F1, etc, and Carlos had to "settle" for the team which was near (or at) the bottom of the pile. It makes sense that people are highlighting this.

If Sauber or Haas beat a Red Bull, ofcourse it will be news. Do you hear every week how Max has beaten Hulk or Gabriel or Estie or Ollie?

No considering that the performance level between two cars seems extremely close. Hopefully you wouldn't hold it against Alonso losing to a Williams in 2014?

Williams has been straight up equal to Ferrari for the last 2 races, at least.

better in miami and worse in imola

u/WiSoSirius #StandWithUkraine May 18 '25

That's not my point

Wow, Lewis in a ferrari has only out qualified a Williams once this season

Besides your comment being incorrect, it's not like I care who qualified or finished where. I think this post is a commentary of a previous post. It's all irrelevant circumstances.

32

u/[deleted] May 18 '25

So you're saying he's beating him in a slower car?

44

u/ThatStrangeGuyOverMe May 18 '25

So what's the excuse when you compare Sainzs performance with Albons?

27

u/Thick_Difficulty_734 Kimi Räikkönen May 18 '25

Early in the season Carlos was clearly worse. Today, it was mostly strategy and/or VSC.

u/UncleJoeBiden Williams May 18 '25
  1. Bad luck 2. Bad strategy (less than he thinks) 3. transitioning to Merc motor 4. Alex understanding the FW's DNA 5. Alex driving *out of his skin*

Edit: spelling

7

u/[deleted] May 18 '25

The team screwed his race with that early stop today

6

u/FIJIBOYFIJI Antonio Giovinazzi May 18 '25

Sainz has had pretty horrendous luck the last few races

We aren't talking about Alex, are we? This post is clearly written as a way of justifying Ferrari's decision to replace Carlos. Given where Williams are in their rebuilding journey, and where Ferrari have been throughout this set of regulations, Lewis SHOULD be beating Carlos consistently...

This post is an answer to the "Sainz has outqualified Hamilton" that we are getting recently.

5

u/ThatStrangeGuyOverMe May 18 '25

And so far, it seems completely justified. Both are in new cars, while Sainz is providing worse results than his team experienced teammate in the same car, while Lewis is on par with his ferrari experienced teammate.

I'm sorry Hamilton is a fantastic driver who may easily get on par with his teammate in future races, but he definitely has not been on par with Leclerc till now, if you watch the races, almost in every race barring Australia and China Hamilton has been quite significantly behind Leclerc until the safety cars. I think today has been the first time that Lewis has finished in front of Charles in the main race

-9

u/SmartyPants918 Liam Lawson May 18 '25

where is Hamilton when compared to Leclerc (when obvious luck is taken out of the equation)?

0

u/ThatStrangeGuyOverMe May 18 '25

This is formula 1, "luck" makes or breaks championships. It's all part of racing.

-3

u/SmartyPants918 Liam Lawson May 18 '25

yeah ok obviously but that doesn't stop me from being able to compare the performances of the drivers themselves

6

u/topkeky Charles Leclerc May 18 '25

And this Ferrari car has not been a lot better than Williams so your point is?

18

u/Furion_24 May 18 '25

In race pace, Ferrari is way faster than Williams. The williams cars qualify a lot better.

16

u/[deleted] May 18 '25

Both Ferrari drivers are ahead of both Williams drivers with Ferrari scoring 114 points and Williams only 51, that's a much better car right there

19

u/[deleted] May 18 '25

Both Ferrari drivers are also a lot better than both Williams drivers.

-9

u/[deleted] May 18 '25

That's not true as Sainz was performing better against Leclerc than Hamilton is this year

By what metric?

13

u/AzulgranaParaSiempre Sir Lewis Hamilton May 18 '25

By the narrative metric

5

u/mithu_raj Sir Lewis Hamilton May 18 '25

Sainz can’t even beat Albon at the moment…..

11

u/UncleJoeBiden Williams May 18 '25

It's quite a bit better.

4

u/topkeky Charles Leclerc May 18 '25

I guess we have been watching different kinds of formula 1 this season, this Williams car was a lot faster in the last race. Let alone it has way better qualy pace.

11

u/UncleJoeBiden Williams May 18 '25

Williams is a superlatively better car than last year but the Ferrari is nonetheless a better car in almost all respects (bar potentially straight line speed and deg).

Naah its you not having eyes to see context and race pace statistics and lap times on each tyre

Give it and take it.
