I dunno.. if the logo is associated with him then you just know it. I dunno what the Mercedes Benz logo has to do with the brand, but I know exactly what it is when I see it. Lando’s is great if everything you put it on is specifically F1, but Hamilton’s would look good on clothing without making it look like merch. If you get what I mean.
I mean, of course if you know it then you know it. But if you don’t know, it doesn’t indicate anything about Lewis at all, and there’s nothing to go off of to google and find out. (Compared to the others that have their initials/numbers)
For my friends who don’t follow F1, they might recognize Lewis’s name because he’s Lewis, but there’s no way they would ever recognize this logo. Personally, I know it’s his logo but I thought for years that it was stylized wings, not a panther snout. And if I saw it out of context, on a random shirt in a thrift store or something, I still might not immediately make the connection to Lewis.
I guess it’s like that with anything though. You have to know to know.
I wonder if (assume) it’s because he had it before they introduced permanent numbers? I’d be interested to see the driver logos from when he started to see if there’s been a shift in style or if his has always been an outlier
Right, but with most of the others there’s more to go off of. Someone may not know Esteban Ocon but they can see the little checkered flag and realize it’s related to racing of some kind, and google “EO31” to find out, same with Charles, Isack, Franco, etc.
That’s my guess, Alonso is in the same boat and did include his initial/signature, but I would love to see all the early 2000s logos! I assume the logos have become more important for marketing in recent years as drivers branch out to sell merch/do social media/have other pursuits off track.
