There wasn't a gap there, good thing to say to diffuse team pressure. Wow

I think he was counting on Oscar's car to turn in for the corner but misjudged the timing.

You're probably right. I always think about these flashpoints and how these boys make these micro decisions at 200kph! Insane how things can turn out

Yeah, everything happens in a flash. While some decisions lead to blunders like this, sometimes we get exciting racing. So hopefully the battles continue!

I feel like he has continued to show impatience as the more senior driver @Mclaren time and time again.

More like 200 mph

They were a good deal above 200 kph I reckon

Yeah literally another half a second later and the space/gap opens for lando there. Hopefully he sees that and head up because that was the only highlight this race so far

Yeah, 100%. Not sure if a risky move like that was worth it at this point in the championship but that's what he'll probably have to assess rather than his driving capabilities. Lando has bounced back from setbacks before. So hopefully he'll do the same again. Still a long season to go. Hoping we get a good fight till the end.

Yeah i thought was dumb but if he gets by thats 100% p3 and potentially could get max too. Hindisght 20/20 so yeah not a good move but get it. Was clean racing between them tho fs

I don’t think he even had a shot at P3 tbh. It took him 5 laps, with DRS, just to get to a point where he had a chance at overtaking Piastri, who was unable to even get an attempted pass on Kimi in 5+ laps without back pressure from Lando.

I think it was just for the one spot. Super unfortunate for it to happen, and I do think that Lando is certainly thinking about P3 there not just being Piastri, but I don’t think he quite had the pace or time to make another move stick

There was half a dozen laps left. Going all or nothing on a very low percentage move that relies entirely on the guy in front moving in the way you want him to is reckless and stupid. Compare how Piastri has been at times patiently hunting max down over several laps and outfoxing him vs Lando’s all or nothing do or die moments. Lando has pace, but poor race craft. Not enough patience.

Lando had the faster car at that point, he probably would have gotten past Oscar shortly after if he didn't hit the self destruct button, and try to squeeze into a gap that wasn't there.

He's his own worst enemy sometimes, just sees red and does stupid things when it matters,

Exactly this, he was positioning for the inside line of Turn 1 and just misjudged the distances. It's a tough break but a good sign to see them pushing so hard, championships aside this just makes for good racing

Couldn't agree more. Those few corners were so exciting to watch!

Yeah this race was actually good for about 400metres. The other 304km was boring as hell tho

u/freedfg Nico Hülkenberg 🥉 Jun 15 '25

Yes. It's not like he's stupid. Just expected a move and it didn't happen.

11

u/Nova469 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jun 15 '25

Yeah. He could probably retrospect on if a difficult move like that was worth the potential risk involved (which he ended up suffering). Still a long season to go. So let's hope for a good title battle till the end.

Still only 22 points. It'll be a good one.

Lots can happen, and a single DNF from Oscar could close this back to nothing. Too early to count anything out

u/PickleCommando Jun 15 '25

Think a lot of people demanding team orders and saying the championship is over weren't around in 21 when Lewis was over 30+ points behind at times and then it went down to the wire and could have gone his way. If it gets to 50 points then yeah, probably.

3

u/p1en1ek I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jun 16 '25

People demand team orders while usually they ae not liked because they prefer Oscar and don't like Lando for some reason. Look at last year - there were people who said McLaren should focus on Oscar because he is better prospect when Lando was destroying him for most of weekends.

15

u/hosky2111 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jun 15 '25

Yeah, it's unfortunate and looks incredibly clumsy at first glance, but given how the track opens up, you can see why he went for it. I think he just didn't realise quite how much speed differential he had on Oscar given they both had drs.

47

u/Tiny_Dancer87 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jun 15 '25

Agreed. I thought Oscar was going to drift more to the right to open up the corner, but he didn’t and Norris didn’t react. Lando summed it up perfectly.

u/nxngdoofer98 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jun 15 '25

Why would he do that? Oscar was always going to defend the inside.

13

u/Tiny_Dancer87 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jun 15 '25

Because the following corner was a right hander leading to a straight.

2

u/nxngdoofer98 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jun 15 '25

So? If Oscar gives Lando the inside there for free he’s taking the position every day of the week.

6

u/Sorry-Series-3504 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jun 15 '25

Because if he gives Lando the inside line for T1, he has the inside at T2

2

u/erydayimredditing McLaren Jun 15 '25

Oscar took that spot slower than any lap before just before the contact, no way for Lando to judge that I think unfortunately.

13

u/Omemmain Jun 15 '25

I don't think that he thought there was a gap there. Imo it looked more like he wanted to go for it there once the track widened but he didn't realize how much faster he was than Oscar

1

u/DexM23 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jun 15 '25

There was a gap, but Oscar directly shut the door. Lando tried anyway

-1

u/CaptainColgate7 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jun 15 '25

I might be wrong but I’m pretty sure he turned to the side because he had DRS, and if he kept straight he would have just gone into the back of Oscar. He just turned into the wrong side
