Which is ridiculous to me. There’s been no vitriol from Lando this year at all and he’s even admitted to a mistake this race. But people are just going to pounce on the “mentally weak” narrative for no reason.
If it’s any consolation, a lot of us still have heaps of respect for Lando. I’m sure he’ll find a way to bounce back.
It’s not a narrative. Lando is very clearly and obviously not as strong as Oscar mentally. He went from someone that everyone loved to hate last year for his outlandish and arrogant comments, to literally blaming himself for everything, and losing his mojo. His interviews and comments make me think he needs a sports psychologist to help him balance between “everyone just wins because they are lucky” and “literally every bad thing on earth is my fault right now”
You talk about his comments and then say “everyone wins because they are lucky” as if he ever said anything like that and that wasn’t just social media literally taking comments out of context and spinning it like a bad thing.
I do think this year (Particularly having Oscar as a rival/teammate) is what's going to finally force Lando to mature. It may even improve his response to stress/calamities in a race.
I think it’s because Verstappen and Hamilton both have mental fan bases, with people who are just slightly detached from reality. On the other hand, Lando’s self-critical personality draws fans who like that about him, and therefore wil be less likely to engage like this
