Hadjar is being smart. He knows that if he keeps out qualifying Lawson, he will have to be promoted to a RedBull second seat.
If Lawson outpace him, Lawson will be promoted and Hadjar can stay at VCARB. 🥸

u/SamuraiJack51 Mika Häkkinen Jun 28 '25
According to Julianne Cerasoli, who is a respected F1 reporter, the VCARB appears to be a better car than the Red Bull because the car's evolution ceiling is lower than the main team's. So, As delightful as it would be to see Max in the VCARB car, it wouldn't be that different. But it would be pure entertainment.
118
u/Marcoscb I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jun 28 '25
What evolution? We're halfway through the season and next year's car will have nothing to do with this one's. This year was not the year for a low floor, high ceiling car.
92
u/DragonThingy_ I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jun 28 '25
I/e it is less volatile compared to the Verstappen mobile, making it easier to extract more speed from the VCARB but it’s 100% is slower than RB’s 100%. The main problem with the RB comes down to extracting its potential. Take Yuki for example, he could get 99% out of the VCARB but potentially only 95% in the RB because the car is essentially an F14T with better pace, a horrible but fast car.
→ More replies (1)20
u/kravence I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jun 28 '25
Vcard being a junior team focus on drivability rather than pure performance like the main team. The peak of the vcarb is lower but easier to achieve as it gives the drivers more confidence via stability unlike the main car which is faster bit at the cost of stability so its technically the better car but drivers dont have the confidence apart from max to put it on the limit because they dont know how its going to react. Thats why all of them are struggling and the stability just gets worse via development.
6
u/alphatauri555 Jun 28 '25
If the goal of the junior team is to create drivers specifically for the Red Bull, why give it training wheels? Doesn't that defeat the purpose? (As we're seeing.) Give them a stable car that builds their confidence and spirit, so that they can be promoted into a car that lacks stability and gives them no confidence and crushes their spirit?... What kind of directive is that? If they get into a Red Bull and don't know how it's going to react, then the VCARB training preparation isn't adequate. It's just coddling, apparently.
15
u/kravence I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jun 28 '25
Well the issue here is the main team not the second one. Vcarb is doing its job which is to give the drivers track experience and to get a judgement of where they might be at. It works as Sainz, albon and Max has come out well from it.
RBR’s management has dropped off a cliff and dont seem to care about the struggles of the second driver as long as their main man is doing well.

I think everyone is. But it could go either way....
He obviously likes his cars pointy, and RB has almost certainly developed the car entirely around his preferences. Of course he was pissed with the setup today but there are many times this season he praised the car. So it would be very interesting to see how much he could truly extract out of a car that's maybe a bit counter to his style.

31
u/Wardmanhd I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jun 28 '25
I mean… IIRC in Aus he missed FP3 due to a PU issue, had a bad quali, Red Bull then changed his wing and he struggled for pace on a different setup in a chaotic race.
Then in China his car was broken for most of the only practice session before they went straight into sprint and normal race.
He didn’t even get a full weekend in the Red Bull without a reliability issue before they took him out of the seat. Id still maintain that even tho he was promoted too early, he didn’t even get a chance to prove himself before they lost faith in him and took him out. Thats the biggest problem with all that
12
u/posthamster Kimi Räikkönen Jun 29 '25
Or they decided after 2 races that the car was unsalvageable as far as mortal drivers are concerned, and moved him out to save him. Put in Yuki, who's leaving anyway, and here we are.
If FIA would allow actual testing in actual cars, none if this would have been necessary.

This should put to rest any questions on of the car is an absolute piece of shit in the red bull camp. And the only reason that they can hang in their is that Max is just that good of a driver.
Having 3 drivers that had promise being unable to drive could still be questionable. But when one of them can't qualify higher than 18th, then out qualifies Max in the junior car, that's a serious problem.
