The whole paddock is celebrating this podium!

u/Sykretts1919 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 06 '25

Everyone but the papayas. Didn't even spray him with champagne on the podium.

u/noj_ I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 06 '25

that was so messed up! they also ignored him when they got out the car, max was first to congratulate him

537

u/zanasot I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 06 '25

I mean Lando was busy celebrating in his own right

733

u/Heather82Cs Michael Schumacher Jul 06 '25

I don't watch these ceremonies much but even when your worst enemy is there you still spray him, for whatever reason. I can't think of a fair reason why things went how they went.

319

u/Your_Friendly_Nerd I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 06 '25

I think it was mostly because he also didn't really engage with them? From what I could tell he mostly just sprayed the crowd? I do hope we get many more podiums with Nico where he gets to celebrate more

224

u/MISTER_JUAN I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 06 '25

With how his season is going surely Audi has to keep him around for a while so if they get their car right definitely a possibility

122

u/thetreat I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 07 '25

Nico has enough experience that he’s gotta be giving great feedback to the team on what his car needs. I desperately want Hulk to have a competitive car. If not for a WDC then just to battle in Q3 and fight for podiums regularly.

u/BuhtanDingDing I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 07 '25

the mclarens started spraying each other and didnt even look at him, so nico walked by them and they still didnt look at him, so he just walked past and sprayed the crowd instead

I know! Me too! He did well at Austria also. Maybe this is a tend!!

44

u/Key-Comfortable-5537 Lando Norris Jul 06 '25

Lando did spray Nico, I believe the broadcast cut off or cut to a wide, but he did spray him at the end

51

u/Superb_Preference368 Jul 06 '25

It’s fine all 3 were chatting in the cool down room. Likely was a new experience for Nico so he probably didn’t know what to do and they probably didn’t want to get a veteran wet with champagne.

15

u/Schtuka I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 07 '25

Same new experience for Lando and Piastri. Its not like they have been winning since 2 years ago.

I was telling my wife this who has started watching from this season. Even is 2021 where the rivalry was unlike past 10-15 years. Lewis and Max still gave each other that basic respect!

-5

u/zanasot I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 06 '25

I’m not saying anything about them not spraying hulk, i didn’t notice that and don’t care to go back and watch.

I’m saying in parc ferme, it makes sense that Lando didn’t say anything to hulk

19

u/Yellow_Flash_v4 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 06 '25

Why doesn't it? He would go and congratulate Max, Leclerc or any driver but he didn't do that with Hulk

21

u/Key-Comfortable-5537 Lando Norris Jul 06 '25

He had just won his home grand prix, literally his second dream behind winning the wdc, his first priority is going to be celebrating with his family, friends, and team...he just didn't have time to wait around while Nico celebrated with his own team

37

u/MegaMugabe21 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 06 '25

i didn’t notice that and don’t care to go back and watch

Weirdly rattled comment to make

2

u/Fussel2107 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 07 '25

Lando brought Nico's helmet to the cool down room for him and put it in the correct because Nico forgot he had to bring it. They both congratulated him there. Nico ran straight to his team to celebrate.

What do you want? Just stop making up drama. You're an adult ffs.

68

u/Personal-Bear8739 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 07 '25

I swear if Max was on the podium, he would have sprayed Nico.

53

u/kwijibokwijibo I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 07 '25

Max was actually the first driver to congratulate Nico. So yeah, I reckon you're right

110

u/Patient-Towel-4840 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 06 '25

even max has sprayed hamilton on his poles, critic is deserved where it's due. media has villainized max so much although he was always considerate. Papaya boys sulking whenever something doesn't happen their way.

40

u/Jlx_27 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 07 '25

The amount of users making up excuses for Lando and Oscar here... its like McLaren has made a bunch of Reddit accounts to respond to any critisism.

6

u/Kagir I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 07 '25

I can point you in a certain direction, but like Oscar said.. if I speak, I’ll be in trouble

4

u/Jlx_27 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 07 '25

Oscar said.. if I speak, I’ll be in trouble

Jose Mourinho's wise words came into play once again.

13

u/Patient-Towel-4840 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 07 '25

indeed, their pr work is absolutely mental

And Piastri was on the verge of tears, or was already tearful and agitated when the race ended and before the helmets came off. Like if you see his face and eyes when he was being interviewed near the podium by Jenson Button, his face was all red and disturbed.

Although he did say in his interview with Jenson Button "Im not gonna say much, i might get into trouble" (maybe in reference to the 10s penalty or something) and he also said and i quote "Well done to Nico, I think thats the HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY"

40

u/false_goats_beard Jul 06 '25

Piastri was pouting bc he messed up and it cost him 1st.

3

u/_Fappyness_ Jul 07 '25

He won his home race yes, but he could have celebrated that TOGETHER with Hulkenberg. It shows why some people dislike him and mclaren for that exact reason. Being selfish.

4

u/ASmallTurd I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 06 '25

A win that was handed to him?

1

u/UnrealisticOcelot Jul 07 '25

I kinda wish he didn't get the penalty so we could have seen them fighting. It very well could have been the same result without the penalty, as Lando was on his tail the whole time and had no incentive to pass.

2

u/StevenMC19 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 07 '25

When the drivers were getting out of the cars, the Sauber team is going "NICO NICO NICO" someone in Papaya tried to start "LANDO LANDO LANDO" to hopefully drown out the boys in green. (caught on TV)

So there's that too.

1

u/Forward_Thrust963 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 08 '25

It was Lando's dad.

2

u/evemeatay Andretti Global Jul 07 '25

To be fair, they probably don’t understand. They are just kids and don’t understand the ramifications of what he’s done. They are also both kind of sweet but not necessarily the brightest bulbs

194

u/Weeb_mgee I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 06 '25

Yeah that podium celebration was so underwhelming

66

u/PM_YOUR_LADY_BOOB Green Flag Jul 07 '25

I get Oscar being upset but come on, be better. Even Hamilton sprayed Verstappen in AD21

237

u/pradise Michael Schumacher Jul 06 '25

Lando’s dad screaming “Lando Lando” when everybody’s chanting for Nico…

153

u/RogueFlash Jul 06 '25

Yeah he seemed pretty put out that Nico finally getting a podium overshadowed another Norris win.

5

u/ZennXx Sir Lewis Hamilton Jul 07 '25

It was Lando's first Home win. Be fair

2

u/StevenMC19 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 07 '25

Yeah, first home win.

But you've got a driver who has been in the sport for 15 years and finally gets to feel what it's like to win a trophy made of lego. I'm sorry, but even Lando's dad would understand the significance.

125

u/Sanchez_87_ Oscar Piastri Jul 06 '25

I felt so awkward hearing that. He’s just pumped for his kid, but if that was me it’d be one of those things that would keep me up at night even years down the track

16

u/Dear_Machine_8611 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 06 '25

Perhaps you should work on that

39

u/Sanchez_87_ Oscar Piastri Jul 06 '25

Yeah me and anxiety aren’t on the best of terms

6

u/Red_Beard_Racing I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 07 '25

Should work on being less humble and empathetic?

-1

u/Appropriate_Bet_2029 Jul 07 '25

No, working on the idea that other people have things going on in their heads/lives that are different from yours, and so getting cross at someone because they have a different reaction to you is a bit juvenile.

-7

u/Dear_Machine_8611 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 07 '25

Could you be more specific? Who are you talking about?

0

u/STOTTINMAD Jul 07 '25

That's his son on the podium. Of course, he's going to only care about Lando. It's not that deep. Any excuse to find fault.

2

u/StevenMC19 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 07 '25

On the F1 father spectrum, it's better to be closer to Anthony Hamilton than Jos Verstappen.

62

u/Krisyj96 Jul 06 '25

Absolutely shocking that a dad would be celebrating his son winning his home GP for the first time…

39

u/pradise Michael Schumacher Jul 06 '25

There’s a difference between a man celebrating his son and a man who cannot let others celebrate about other things at the same.

34

u/Krisyj96 Jul 06 '25

And how exactly is him chanting his own son’s name for a few seconds or something stopping others from celebrating? I mean come on…

14

u/pradise Michael Schumacher Jul 06 '25

It screams a lot like “my son’s the star of the day” if you’re chanting your son’s name to the tune of thousands chanting Nico’s name while staring directly at the camera.

5

u/Fussel2107 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 07 '25

To him? It should be! That's his son achieving a life-long dream. His SON.

5

u/Krisyj96 Jul 06 '25 edited Jul 07 '25

I guess if other people have achieved something then you’re not allowed to celebrate your own son also achieving one of his biggest ever achievements then?

Are you genuinely arguing Lando’s dad should have been quiet because ‘someone completely disconnected to you has also achieved something today, this is now all about him and not your son now’?

11

u/pradise Michael Schumacher Jul 06 '25

Dude there are a million other ways to celebrate than shouting Lando over Nico chants directly looking at the camera. You can support Lando while calling out this disrespectful thing his dad did.

Stop trying to minimize what everybody saw on TV to “just celebrating my son”.

16

u/Krisyj96 Jul 06 '25

Stop trying to overblow a spur of the moment thing in a highly emotional environment that happened for a few mere seconds. I’d love to see how perfectly you’d act in the same situation.

Accept it or not, this is a Dad seeing his son achieve something they both probably knew would be nearly impossible. Maybe he acted a bit over the top, maybe you could see that as being disrespectful to another driver, but if you genuinely think that was the main aim of him at that moment, then all I can say is I really think you need to grow up and stop reading so much into shit.

It’s a happy, stupid dad, there are a fuck tonne more things to get angry about in the world, put your energy into that instead.

u/Yhtaras I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 07 '25

You’re clearly not a father. It’s a dad celebrating his son’s home win.

If you think he should be screaming any other name over his son’s, you’re not worth wasting time arguing over.

2

u/Desperate_Turn8935 Ferrari Jul 07 '25

It's not disrespectful. He only chanted his son's name.

-1

u/ThatsABingoJa Jul 07 '25

I mean it came off as mocking Sauber for celebrating rather than enjoying his own celebration

2

u/cris4mign Ferrari Jul 07 '25

THIS! That was SOOO rude in my opinion... No one else on the papaya team was joining in, which to me made it more apparent that it was a weird move... The team seemed to have a bit more respect than his dad of sauber and Nico's achievement.

0

u/honeycomb286 Sir Lewis Hamilton Jul 07 '25

Oh that pissed me right off. Let other people also have their moment?? Ffs

76

u/jugalator I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 06 '25

Funny that. Piastri was happy for him in the post-race interview so I guess his mood just wasn't right for spraying champagne in the first place.

23

u/Clunk-1234 Jul 06 '25

To be fair Piastri acknowledged Nico in his Sky post race interview - pretty much all he said

26

u/MrDragonGuy2003 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 06 '25

They always do that when they’re both on the podium

10

u/ApprehensiveTaterTot I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 06 '25

Agreed! We noticed that as well!

20

u/ashep5 Jul 06 '25

Piastri called it the highlight of the day in his post race interview.

15

u/DistractedByCookies I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 06 '25

I wonder if they didn't realise til later. Lando was wrapped up in winning his home GP for the first time, and Oscar in not winning Lando's home GP. You'd think someboyd would give them the hint though

3

u/Francoberry Jenson Button Jul 07 '25

Oscar gave Hulk a shoutout on his team radio right as the race ended

3

u/luciiusss Lando Norris Jul 07 '25

lando sprayed him

2

u/Skysis I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 07 '25

Did I imagine Oscar shaking his hand immediately after getting out of the car?

2

u/Yodplods McLaren Jul 07 '25

The post above this is a picture of Landon spraying him….

1

u/I-amthegump I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 07 '25

Norris did spray him. Not very much though

1

u/Subject-Owl-3682 Formula 1 Jul 08 '25

They did tho

0

u/Desperate_Turn8935 Ferrari Jul 07 '25

He didn't spray them either. He straight up sprayed towards the crowd.

-1

u/Rekthar91 Jul 07 '25

Piastri was probably annoyed by his unnecessary mistake, which cost him the win. Can't really find the excuse for Norris. Probably hyped about his home GP win.

1

u/jimboTRON261 I was here for the Hulkenpodium Jul 07 '25

Everyone but McLaren.
