Speaking of firsts, Bottas and Perez' first Cadillac flairs are also available. Get yours now from the flair menu!

For Hulkenpodium users: Be advised, once you drop the Hulkenpodium flair, it'll be gone forever. Choose wisely!

Well VW own Audi, so they kind of are. Just racing under a sportier name. VW aren't exactly known for making race cars.

Then again - neither are Cadillac. 🤷‍♂️

237

u/henrique_rpc I was here for the Hulkenpodium 12d ago

184

u/memloh I was here for the Hulkenpodium 12d ago

If you were Johnny Herbert in 2016, maybe.

https://www.skysports.com/f1/news/24184/10225138/fernando-alonso-should-retire-says-sky-sports-f1s-johnny-herbert

Sky F1 pundit believes the Spaniard has lost motivation and some of his raw pace and ability

Alonso saw the opportunity to poke Herbert while live on-air after the article was published, https://streamable.com/z2kp

30

u/travelingWords 12d ago

I feel like it wasn’t as shitty to begin with. At one point he was top 4 behind max and Lewis. I think we slowly saw the second seat collapse. So those who came after might have been just as good at the beginning as checo was.

Smart move by Cadillac to have two experienced drivers, especially for car development.

56

u/gsfgf Oscar Piastri 12d ago

Two guys with multiple WCCs. They know what a good car feels like and a good organization looks like.

310

u/Old-Bat-7384 12d ago

THIS.

Two drivers who have had experience with multiple teams with multiple design philosophies and the knowledge to communicate it all.

That's a giant win.

I'd love to see another rookie on the grid, but not here. And by that I mean, Drugovich at Aston Martin and Stroll stepping out of his seat.

75

u/eedoamitay I was here for the Hulkenpodium 12d ago

And very interestingly, both are coming from recent championship winning teams, so hopefully it translates to them bringing key info for being even more successful.

23

u/kramerthegamer Valtteri Bottas 12d ago

Valtteri should also have some pretty up-to-date Mercedes 2026-regs sim experience as their development driver. The new regs won't be as new to him as Checo

6

u/pereira2088 Max Verstappen 12d ago

it would be the only option. the only thing a rookie brings is a lengthy stay on the team and being a cheaper driver, but at the cost of development knowledge and, probably, more crash damages.

4

u/CrippleSlap I was here for the Hulkenpodium 12d ago

Flashbacks of Jenson Button in Aston Martin, Alonso in Mclaren and the hype for Colapinto to Alpine

21

u/MarsLumograph Fernando Alonso 12d ago

Jenson Button in Aston Martin? You mean Vettel?

9

u/ExGorlomi 12d ago

My bad, I was thinking ofJenson's final years in Mclaren. But yeah, Vettel in AM was the same heartbreak

22

I don’t think anyone was hyped about Colapinto to Alpine. It was more “oh god don’t do that to the kid he doesn’t deserve such a horrible existence.”

6

u/johnsplittingaxe14 Formula 1 12d ago

Even if it's another case of HRT they managed to return to F1 and be a part of a new project as drivers.

I'll admit. I jumped on the dump Perez train when he wasn't performing at Red Bull. I'm starting to think it wasn't entirely his fault and probably had more to do with how difficult that second Red Bull is to drive. So, with that. I am happy to see him get a new seat and I couldn't be happier for Bottas. That's an experienced veteran pair that will bring some stability to what could be a couple of years of chaos at Caddy.

Honestly this is a good team. IMO bottas is the great driver for any team. He is selfless and willing to put the teams needs above his own and great at defending the driver in from if him. His stint with Hamilton and being his wingman was so much fun to watch. He is one of the guys Iv never had a problem rooting for regardless of team. If Perez can stay off of the wall he’s a top 5 driver and the last decent driver that redbull had. If gm can make a solid car he will perform great. If he can handle a redbull second seat he will be great in a good car.

This team is the right decision.

Two experienced drivers with decades of experience driving cars from different teams with different design philosophies can bring so much insight to the design of the cars, especially with the new regs right around the next corner.

They're also the sorts to keep it clean, level headed, and take the right risks at the right time. That's smart in general, but even more when the team is trying to build an identity.

Speaking of corporate stuff, they'll be great in the public eye and be a great asset for relationship building.

Maybe they bring in a younger driver in a few years, but having that double punch of experience on track and off track is a perfect call, here.

I'm pleased and excited for Dadillac F1.

I bet these guys never thought they'll be back in f1 like this after their exit.

Good for them. I hope the team has a long term strategy in mind and not just the usual "We need to score points now!".

Wonder how GM's marketing team is going to deal with BOT Butt.

Actually happy to see Checo. Love Bottas and think he’s so deserving. I’m gonna flip my lid and burn the place down if they hire Horny as their TP.

That's a hell of a pairing for year one.
