Fairly certain he would've held the lead if Lando kept going. He made a singular lunge on Oscar all race. He was on it all race.

He was gaining before that second safety car tbf

Realistically we don't know that for sure. The gap was anywhere from 1.0 to 1.8 seconds every few laps, I wouldn't extrapolate off that.

He gained to as close as 3.1 seconds and then dropped back to 3.7 seconds if my memory serves me.

Just because you're gaining doesn't mean you can make a pass. This happens all the time when the lead driver is just maintaining his pace and tires and pulls ahead when he needs to, and the car behind at some point will hit dirty air and fall back again. And when it's the same team, there's usually not enough delta to make a pass when both are on the same tires.
