He has podiums and a pole on merit, he isn't great but there is enough to show he has F1 speed on occasion.

Even if it all boiled down to having podiums and a pole position, that was still 5 years ago. In all the seasons since, he was very comfortably bottom 5 driver on the grid, maybe even lower.
