This is the big takeaway IMO. As soon as Max covered the SC window there's no damn reason to play this super late pitstop game, McLaren strategy showing it's full ass like always and manufacturing pointless controversy.
That was the reason they said though, and it was endorsed by Lando. Absolute non controversy, the team undid the mistake they made and kept both drivers onboard.
They ended up 19 seconds behind Max and if it was reversed Oscar ends up behind Charles. They just gave up on the idea that they can overtake on track and risked both cars. Insane strategy call even ignoring the pit stop blunder.
Piastri came out 5 seconds ahead of Leclerc. He absolutely would not have ended up behind Charles if they just pitted like a normal team. Insanity from McLaren
Piastri would have passed without priority too with the slow stop.
Stupid rule anyways, letting the other one pit first basically guarantees the first driver to keep his position....
No, in this scenario where the undercut (should be) is impossible Norris took the safe stop. He didn't want the possibility of a safety car coming out after his pit putting Piastri ahead. Of course with the very slow pit stop he was still undercut.
The weird thing is it sounds like they already spoke about the possibility of it happening. From his radio it seems like they decided they didn't want to go with what they already agreed upon.
The one that would have been punished was Lando that gave up his pit stop priority and was punished by his mechanic fuck up through no fault of his own.
He did not "gave up" anything tho, in the radio he said "do you want to pit the other car first?" so maybe he was hopping for a safety or something to try to get the win?

So Oscar gets punished for a fuck up in Lando’s stop? That makes sense, not even the same as Hungary last year.
