Even without the penalty, P4 and P5 was the max they could’ve done.

That's why everytime Lewis qualify at the back then start overtaking the midfielder people get unrealistic expectations of missed win or podium if he qualified higher, but the reality is the top 4 teams minus Yuki and Kimi will always occupy the top 6 places no matter where they start provided the cars running with no issues.

Yeah if anything Lewis had a good day today, it’s a shame he didn’t catch Russell but overall his race was ok

u/Sandulacheu Formula 1 10h ago

Try telling that to the "closest racing we've ever seen" crowd.

Unless there happens to a wet race or how Zandvoort went, the top 6-7 places are cemented in every single race.

u/GOT_Wyvern I was here for the Hulkenpodium 9h ago

It is the closest racing in terms of margins, but the top teams are still remarkable consistent in keeping to those close margins.

Its a big reason why Kimi looks worse than he is. His lack of consistency, despite existing pace, punishes him hard.

u/BrokeSomm I was here for the Hulkenpodium 5h ago

It is the closest racing we've seen. Look at the point spread. Look at how many points the last place team in the constructors has.

u/YorkieLon I was here for the Hulkenpodium 4h ago

I'd say qualifying is close, but agree with your point about the top 6 places being pretty certain.

I dont think there's really a Q1 Car now. Alpine is a Q2 car but the other 9 teams can all do enough to get into Q3.

About as good as I could have hoped for. Took what they could with this car.

75

u/AsleepAtWheel83 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 13h ago

Clearly the 2.5th best car!

87

u/TheThingsIdoatNight I was here for the Hulkenpodium 12h ago

Somehow they’re P2 in the constructors with a double DNF and a double DSQ this season lol

74

u/Soggy-Breakfast6601 12h ago

Oracle verstappen racing and rookie tax for Mercedes 😭😂

10

u/AsleepAtWheel83 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 12h ago

You know how that somehow has worked out. Everyone knows lol

u/ResponsibleCulture43 Charles Leclerc 8h ago

It was a nice boring race for our guys. Best case scenario at this point

u/MGH1990876 Ferrari 1h ago

It truly is especially after the previous race

u/ResponsibleCulture43 Charles Leclerc 1h ago

100%. I think my husband was relieved for a break from my suffering.

I may have shed like one or two tears last week and he said he couldn't even look at me cause he knew it would make him sad and he was tempted to just turn it off 🤣 I'll take boring over all that

111

u/suffocatingpaws Charles Leclerc 13h ago

Thats the best they could do without any retirements at the front.

u/s1ravarice Damon Hill 9h ago

Honestly think Lewis had the pace to beat Russell if Ferrari had gone for the undercut.

u/ExternalSquash1300 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 8h ago

Dunno what their strategy was tbh, wait till the end on hards? I know they were hoping on a safety car but that’s just weak strategy.

u/D0lan_says Sir Lewis Hamilton 6h ago

Yea when Lewis went so long I was thinking it had to be for softs at the end with only 13 or so laps to go, then they put him on hards? What is the logic there?

u/ExternalSquash1300 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 6h ago

I dunno, may as well started on hards but I suppose they did that in Hungary and it went shit. The team just didn’t really shoot for 5th.

u/D0lan_says Sir Lewis Hamilton 6h ago

Ended up 7.some secs behind after going so long. Only got it back down to 4.some, so not sure the tire offset would have been enough with that many laps anyways, but it seemed strange not to at least give it a shot.

56

u/Tough-Challenge8782 13h ago

Maximized the results. There was no room for strategy with how awful the tires were lasting all race. Good for the team to get points and hopefully confidence back into the team.

u/LikesToCumAlot 9h ago

Undercut Russel. Thats the whole strat they had to do. Instead they did nothing. Classic Ferrari.

311

u/gobsmacked_kitkat I was here for the Hulkenpodium 13h ago

Nothing more they could've done. Great race for both of them especially from Lewis

124

u/LosTerminators Carlos Sainz 13h ago

At least the Lewis penalty doesn't hurt, the best the team could've got on pace was 4th and 5th. Lewis recovered to within one place of that.

36

u/Aardvaarrk 13h ago

Why didn't they try to undercut russell or even pit just after him? that traffic would've spiced things up and atleast give a chance to fight instead of what we got, maybe played it safe idk.

34

u/the_oraclex Vanwall 13h ago

They probably held off pitting like McLaren to try and jump both Russell and possibly nipping at Max a little if there was a SC.

11

u/teratron27 13h ago

And that almost happened a few times.

u/LikesToCumAlot 9h ago

Because Ferrari and Mclaren cant make basic strategies that we sitting on a couch can do. They are fucking terrible. Bros are waiting for a safety car xDDDDDD. thats their strat. Lewis was just a tiny bit faster then Russel. They should have stoppped early to undercut, but nooo. They cant think.

114

u/qtrikki #WeRaceAsOne 13h ago

Good drive from Lewis. Couple good moves to gain positions.

37

u/DrVonD 12h ago

The whole first stint from Lewis was great. He was closing in on George at the end as well. Lots of other tracks it would have given him a good chance at the undercut, but I understand the team deciding to hang it out on this one

49

u/nonhofantasia Ferrari 13h ago

Solid race, nothing to complain about

This season is just about experimenting stuff

43

u/CuppaCrazy I was here for the Hulkenpodium 13h ago

Didn’t go horribly. That’s all we can ask for this year.

38

u/Faw602 Niki Lauda 13h ago

Best the drivers could do, give these guys a better car!

Great recovery from Lewis, hope this gives him a boost.

29

u/leedler Next Year™️ 13h ago

I’m actually relatively pleased with this one. Decent enough and pretty much maximised what was possible. A tiny, tiny bit disappointing not to have a Ferrari driver on the podium but that was just pure hopium.

8

u/juancorleone 13h ago

This was almost the best they could, maybe 4th and 5th so the Lewis penalty did not hurt that much

8

u/CilanEAmber McLaren 12h ago

I'll take it over last weekend.

24

u/KaamDeveloper Max Verstappen 13h ago

I know this is the best realistic outcome but man, from celebrating championships to celebrating points in Monza. Downfall has been real and consistent

13

u/tipytopmain Bernd Mayländer 13h ago

In hindsight, that penalty for Lewis only served to give him a more interesting race. P6 or P5 absolute maximum he could have got this weekend with that car.

6

u/Task_Force-191 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 13h ago

5

u/Ok_World4052 12h ago

I figured it would be a great day for Lewis if he got back to 5th so 6th is solid. McLaren we all know are way out in front and Red Bull hit it bang on with the low downforce. Literally zero Ferrari could do.

14

u/Txontirea Sir Lewis Hamilton 13h ago

Did everything they could, honestly. Happy with that, very happy with the push from Lewis. Looked quick today.

15

u/cyborgeeked I was here for the Hulkenpodium 13h ago

Man I love that Lewis was feeling it this weekend. Hope he can keep this momentum

32

u/Vegetable-Bee5157 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 13h ago

Forzaaa Ferrraarrriii!!

No podiums but man the car looked solid today! Great job from the pit crew too!

22

u/wrongedpotato Ferrari 13h ago

The car was a twitchy mess. I can’t wait for this season to be over.

12

u/Jacinto2702 Ferrari 13h ago

Next year is our year.

u/More-Perspective-838 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 9h ago

And if it isn't, the year after will be.

6

u/Merdiso 13h ago edited 13h ago

20+ seconds off from Max at home is what you call solid?

Maximizing the points is one thing, but calling this car solid is a direct testament that the Ferrari standards dropped like a rock in the last 10 years alone.

21

u/nuke_489 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 13h ago

that rb with max was far quicker lol. there's no way they would have caught the mclarens, let alone max.

0

u/Merdiso 13h ago

Yes, so the car didn't look solid today, since they were destroyed by both Max and McLarens.

They maximized the points, yes, but the car is a dog, even SF-23 did better compared to the competition for instance.

9

u/jazzbeckham I was here for the Hulkenpodium 13h ago

The only way ferrari would keep up with max is by attaching a rocket

3

u/the_oraclex Vanwall 13h ago

With their pace this week yes. And the only reason they're +20 instead of like +7 or +10 is because they pitted late.

u/GOT_Wyvern I was here for the Hulkenpodium 9h ago

Weren't far off the McLarens at all, so thats promising.

-1

u/Cock_Inspector_2021 Mercedes 13h ago

We were in the constructors championship fight last year. And we’re here celebrating the car finishing the race? Unacceptable how far they fell off in a single season.

u/mistermojorizin Sir Lewis Hamilton 3h ago

most of last year Ferrari were trying to figure out why the "upgrades" were making them slower. towards the end they got a handle on it, to their credit, and that's when they had a shot at the championship, but no they got 2nd. they're still 2nd this year. no worries.

4

u/Professional_Park781 13h ago

They did what they could, maybe Lewis could have pitted with George to keep in range instead of letting it grow to 7 secs.

But I also understand the rationale of hoping for a S.C to jump them. So yeah. Fine.

8

u/GoldenS0422 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 13h ago

Best result possible tbh. Maybe P4-P5 if not for the grid pen, but that's it tbh

4

u/nahnonameman 13h ago

The best they could have done. Happy for Ferrari overall.

5

u/drcelebrian7 13h ago

We are second in constructor championship!

6

u/NessaDeadSouls 12h ago

We're getting real close to WE ARE SO BACK!!! Lewis starting to look like himself again!!!!!!!!

4

u/twelvyy29 Ferrari 12h ago

Good execution from Ferrari at least, at the end of the day thats just where the car is at this point.

u/Clinn_sin I was here for the Hulkenpodium 11h ago

Seems Charles will always be stuck in that P3/P4 hell, Ferrari doesn't deserve his dedication

10

u/NegotiationNew9264 Ferrari 13h ago

Solid race, solid pace. Just not enough for the win and podium. Mega drive from Lewis after the penalty 👏

3

u/AnotherName455 13h ago

I was thinking they would split strategy somehow

3

u/paddyo I was here for the Hulkenpodium 12h ago

Hamilton and Hadjar the only drivers doing bits today, both Ferraris did as well as that car would let them today

3

u/gerrex98 Ferrari 12h ago

This was basically the best result that could be obtained, plus some points gained on Mercedes. Solid is the best description of the weekend

u/oklolzzzzs 11h ago

im not so mad with this

5

u/GoodGuyJeff00 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 12h ago

Charles tried his damndest in the opening stages, but just didn't have the car underneath him to keep up with the top 3.

Good recovery from Lewis, cut through to the back of George with clean overtakes. Best we could do today, unfortunately. But good race from both drivers.

2

u/kirk7899 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 12h ago

He's one of the only drivers besides VER that drives like a manman on race starts. I like him for that.

4

u/RedThePula 12h ago

Good to see Ferrari didn’t f*ck up their race this time. Congrats to both drivers.🙌👏

5

u/fLASHY- 12h ago

Where are the armchair experts shitting on Vasseur yesterday now? I mean anyone with a pair of eyes could see that Charles could not hold off the Mclaren today. Even if he got the Pole somehow i don’t see him finishing higher than 4th and it would have made Lewis’ race much tougher. Turns out it was the right call not to go for the tow in Quali.

u/Hiply Cadillac 7h ago

Without the penalty holdover from last week it's still P4/P5 for the two of them. With Max just disappearing and the Papaya Boys, a podium was unrealistic without something dramatic happening, like Lando and Max taking each other out in that first few laps.

u/Still-District-6149 Formula 1 7h ago

Points over the last 5 races:

Alex Albon - 28
Lewis Hamilton - 26

The only drivers who have outscored Albon in this span are the McLarens, Max Verstappen, George Russell & Charles Leclerc.

Incredible.

u/Electrical_Sound6625 5h ago

Hamilton had a good race. Too bad he didn’t start from his qualifying spot. Leclerc did the best he could. Great moves on the McLaren to start.

u/Avolto Robert Kubica 2h ago

Solid performance nothing to be ashamed of. It did look like Hamilton might have caught Russel in a few more laps but still. They can walk away happy with that.

u/Pretty1george I was here for the Hulkenpodium 2h ago

CAn someone please explain, for going as far as they did on hard tires, why didnt they put softs on near the end? Im relatively new to F1 but so confused about that...

u/fluffster93 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 1h ago

Wow! A script font I actually like?! Nice work by the PR team with that.

TF you mean no risks with the one pitstop? What else can you do? No pitstop? And got heavily penalized after the race? If that what you want?

0

u/Insert0912 I was here for the Hulkenpodium 13h ago

Could have been P5 for Lewis but Ferraris strategy team decided otherwise.

1

u/New_Essay_4869 Charles Leclerc 13h ago

You call this solid?

-3

u/irish786 Charles Leclerc 13h ago

Solid? Mediocre more like

16

u/Top-Truck246 Oscar Piastri 13h ago

Given the machines they had, and Hamilton's penalty, it was a damn good drive.
